The Gatelodge was wonderful! It was like staying in a storybook cottage on storybook property. Everything about the cottage couldn't be better. We used it as our home base for the cliffs of Moher and the Limerick area. It was so comfortable and welcoming. What made it even better was our wonderful host, Cristin! She made sure we had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. She also provided us a guided tour of her property there. There are so many walking trails all around the property.
She was also very helpful with what there is to do and see in the area. We had a great dinner in Killaloe at The Cherry Tree - highly recommend. We also are at Flannagins. Good too! This was the end of our Ireland trip and this allowed us to leave in style!
We spent two nights in this cottage and absolutely loved it. It was just as described except it seemed much bigger in person! Cristin was lovely and accommodated our very early arrival. She provided delicious and fresh scones, eggs, milk, juice, etc. so we were able to make breakfast each morning. The fireplace was wonderful and we enjoyed relaxing in the living room. One of our favorite features was the laurel tunnel lane/driveway that was just beautiful to drive through. We walked all through the surrounding property - lots of trails, streams, etc and a beautiful view. This was just what we were looking for as we wanted peace and quiet in a private, rural setting.
Cristin was very welcoming and her Gatelodge was a wonderful place for us to be. We're only sorry we couldn't be there longer. The size is spacious, the place was very clean, it was a wonderful blend of old and new, with great artwork and beautiful pottery everywhere - even the egg holder was pottery! We were able to cook dinner in the very efficient kitchen, the WiFi was some of the best we found in our touring around Ireland, and Cristin left wonderful provisions for breakfast and even made gluten- and dairy-free scones in honor of my food idiosyncrasies along with rhubarb jam. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of staying on this beautiful property in the country. It's close to some great hiking in gorgeous settings, as well as the Glenstal Abbey, which we found fascinating. Because this house is off the beaten path, one must have a car to get to and fro and must be ready for two lanes of traffic on a narrow one-lane road, which is not unusual in many places of Ireland. The old-fashioned bathtubs are rigged up with showers but not the best if one is not fully agile and ready for the adventure.
The Gatelodge was spectacular! Exceeding our expectations. With the most stunning grounds to walk, the Gatelodge is a gem! Cristin was very helpful before and during our stay answering any questions we had. The mobile wifi was an unexpected bonus. Being able to take it with you on your travels. Great little restaurant in a nearby town, highly recommend the Cherry Tree restaurant in Killaloe. Nice pub to go to for a pint right in Killoscully. We were sad to leave and would come back to Ireland and book the Gatelodge again.
Where do I begin. The Gatelodge was nothing shy of breathtaking. Cristin greeted us upon arrival and showed us the cottage. She provided fresh eggs, bread, homemade jam from the garden, and other treats to enjoy during our stay. She was very friendly and helpful in sharing information on the area and local events going on.
Arriving on property was like stepping into an 18th century fairytale. The wood burning stove, the claw foot tubs, the incredible garden & grounds make The Gatelodge one of the nicest places I have every stayed. We are planning a return here but for much more than 2 nights. Everything about this stay made us not want to leave!
Thank you for everything!!
