Guests are welcome to stay and relax in the little house we originally built for my mother who now resides in a nursing home! The house overlooks a small pond, sometimes full if we get the rain, but always visited by deer and dragonflies!
Quiet and peaceful other than the crowing roosters and clucking hens! Approximately 750 sq feet of house supplied with everything you should need for your stay! We do not do any maid services such as cleaning during your stay but do supply soap and softener sheets for clothes and linens washing. There is a change of sheets in the closets. Many of the basic condiments such as olive oil, baking powder, spices, etc. and pots, pans, dishes, and utensils for your cooking are in the cabinets so you should only have to buy the main stuff! Look in the cabinets before you go shopping and if we need to refill anything such as paper towels, toilet paper, etc. - let us know!
Guests are welcome to use the pool, the cedar Pergola area, and the propane BBQ grill. If we do have a big cookout party (only occasionally) we will let you know and invite you!
We have traveled a lot throughout the world and always enjoy staying in Zimmer Frei kind of places! We will like to get to know you a bit but will certainly respect your privacy! The house is set far back from the main house and you come and go as you please without at all passing through the main house!
The neighborhood is nice and quiet and safe - good for walking and we can tell you how to get to the trails if you want to walk down to and all around the nearby Stillhouse Hollow Lake!
There is not easy public transportation close by! A vehicle is necessary to get anywhere!
Turn on the bathroom hot water faucet first when you are ready to take a shower! This will cause the propane water heater to light on quickly and the hot warer will start flowing. Then turn on the hot water to the shower - then turn off the bathroom faucet - seems to work better doing this to get a constant flow of hot water to the shower! We had one guest who figured this out after getting periods of cold water/hot water while taking a shower - guests who have done this have had no problems so I keep telling guests to do this procedure!

Gosh, what a wonderful place to come to after a hard day's travel. Jim and I visited a bit on the porch and watched the deer cross a field - a good way to wind down after a long day of travel. Jim and his wife were also kind and sensitive enough to bring a meal to me - it had been a long day and I just didn't want to go out. More room in the house than I needed. Lovely stay.
We got the chance to stay at Mamau’s beautiful place and we liked it so much. Jim and his family were so wonderful hosts who really care about their guests. We got everything we needed. The house is so comfortable and all the surroundings make you feel like as home. We enjoyed almost every day the big pool and sitting around it having BBQ is just a must have.
Thank you Jim and Family so much. Any time a preferred place to come back …
Jim was an excellent host. He was very helpful and yet seemed to appear at just the right time if we needeed something. Mamau"s house was perfect for the two of us and could have easily accomodated another couple. Swimming pool was pristine, and the country setting in Central Texas was pleasant and peaceful. Personally, I like a good rooster crowing in the morning. I just rolled over, smiled and went back to sleep
Jim and Pat are fantastic hosts! They went above and beyond to accomodate our family. And the PROPERTY!.... A cozy little home in the country with ultimate privacy and wildlife everywhere! We came with the kids for a business trip and they had so much fun swimming in the WARM pool, catching grasshoppers and bullfrogs, watching the deer, chasing the chickens and peacock, watching the horses... they forgot we were not on "vacation"! We even fed apples to the horses next door. What a symphony of nature after a good thunderstorm also, the sounds of the night were INCREDIBLE! We made a few new friends and had a fantastic time- thank you Jim & Pat (and fam!)!!
We had a wonderful time relaxing at Mamau's House. Each morning we walked around a different part of the lake. While relaxing by the pool the only sounds you hear are bird calls and chickens clucking. Doe and fawns live in the neighborhood. We could get close enough to count the spots on the babies backs.
We went into town once for provisions and then never left except for our walks.
We needed a total get away and this was the perfect place for us. Jim brought us an apple pie on the second night of our visit. We could not have asked for better hosts or a more relaxing place to stay.
It is a beautiful and extremely comfortable cottage in a very tranquil setting! The peacock, chickens and dogs quickly became my new best friends! I only met Jim briefly, but I definitely recommend this cottage to anyone who finds themselves in this part of TX!
Great, private, clean, and quiet. Very lovely place. Love the friendly animals.

Mamau's is a beautiful respite in the hill country. We stayed for almost 3 weeks while on tour with a band and we loved every minute of it. The house is immaculate, the porch looks out over the hills and you're surrounded by chickens, dogs, cats, horses, birds and frogs - a great country get away. Jim and Pat were wonderful hosts and we'd love to come back. Highly recommended as a place to stay.
We had a lovely time. Jim and Pat were wonderful hosts and happy to provide us with the best accomodations. Mamau's Cottage was clean and very peaceful and serene. It was like home away from home. The country-side was also beautiful and seeing the deer each morning grazing in the grass and dipping into the pond added just the right touch to make it a very memorable vacation. When we are back that way, we definitely want to stay there again.
So Peaceful that the local deer wander around the grounds!
We.stayed here on the way to Seaworld. It was only about 20 min from I 35 and nice to get away from interstate motels.
Our daughter liked the orange cat even more than the horses next to the front porch.
Great place slept the 4 of us nicely,
the beds being really comfortable but a little smaller than we're used to.
This was our first time using Airbnb, and I hope future stays will be as great, easy, care free as this one was. We didn't have the chance to meet in person, but thanks Jim for letting us stay at your backyard farm hotel.
