Futon available in an apartment with great light. The building is a centrally located art deco style high rise, is a 7 minute drive to downtown and Beale Street, walking distance to several bars and restaurants, and a short drive to Overton Square.
My apartment is on the third floor of an art deco style high rise in the Central Gardens area or midtown Memphis. The space has huge windows and gets great light. It's centrally located and under 10 minutes to most major Memphis sights such as Beale Street, the Orpheum, Graceland and Overton Park. Within walking distance are several bars and restaurants and both Cooper-Young and Overton Square are within a short drive.
Guests will be sleeping on a very comfortable futon in the living room and will have access to the kitchen, a shared bathroom and the dining area.
I use the dining table as a workspace when I am home, so it's possible that space may be unavailable to you.
Guests are welcome to cook, as long as they clean up after themselves.
Interaction with Guests
I'm a teacher who works long hours and I'm usually out of the house from 6:30 AM until early evening. I am home very rarely, especially during the week, so it's possible you may not even see me. I am happy, however, to give guests recommendations about things to do, and especially to eat, in Memphis.
Central Gardens is a beautiful neighborhood, full of historic architecture and great for evening walks. My building is located above a liquor store, a pizza restaurant and near a few bars and coffee shops. You can be downtown in under 10 minutes and to Cooper Young or Overton Square in under a 5 minute drive, or a 20-30 minute walk.
Right outside the door is a bus line straight to downtown. For those with cars, there is ample, free, street parking.
Other Things to Note
Two well-behaved and friendly cats live in the apartment, so if you are allergic and/or do not like cats, this is probably not the ideal place for you. The cats have full run of the apartment and sometimes sleep on the futon, so cat hair is pretty inevitable. I try my best to combat the hair, though.
The house has central heat and window A/C, which is located in the same room as the futon.
There is laundry available in the building for a fee and ample street parking near the building.
No smoking inside.
No outside guests.
I work long hours and wake up very early, so be conscious of noise if you're coming in after 10 pm. I'll extend you the same courtesy in the early morning hours.
Since I already have animals, no pets are allowed. Please treat my cats and my space with kindness.
Do not let the cats out of the apartment.
Please tidy up your belongings before leaving each day, both for your sake and mine. Remember that you are sleeping in someone's home, not a hotel.
Sara was an excellent host. Although I didn't get a chance to see her face to face, she left clear instructions and I was able to comfortably settle in. The futon is an extremely comfortable futon. It was actually better than some actual beds. The apartment is in a very nice neighborhood in Midtown and there were a lot of cafes near by.
I stayed a night and had the appartment for myself! It's a little far from downtown but safe and close to restaurants and dinners. Really worthit if you're going to beale st all night, or just passing by for business.
Sara's place was perfect! She wasn't there during my short stay- but her directions were super clear and she was helpful with any questions about the city I had. Her cute apartment was clean charming and spacious. It was more than I expected! I loved staying here. It's location on a very busy street but it's close to a grocery store, cafes, and the bus stop which goes downtown.
While I did not attend this particular trip, my husband reports that the space was just as described, complete with comfy futon. Though the the living room was quite exposed, Sara was rarely in the apartment. She was particular about how things were done while at her place, but very clear and not unreasonable. The bus to downtown was close by; it runs twice an hour on weekdays and once every 2 hours on weekends. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay close to downtown and public transportation--and don't mind waking up with a friendly cat snuggling up to you in bed--he recommends you ask to stay at Sara's.
I stayed at Sara's place for three nights this March. Even though my arrival time was late at night Sara provided me with all the information necessary to get into the apartment. She works as a teacher so she has to leave pretty early in the morning. Actually I didn't wake up at all because she was so quiet. Besides, she is really friendly and polite!
The appartment itself is great! The bed is located in a big living room with direct access to kitchen and bathroom. Sara even provided me with some towels. The two cats are so lovely and cute. I still miss them! ;)
I'd defenetely stay there again. Thank you Sara!
Sara was a great host- even suggested a friend of hers that I could meet up with to discuss the local university I was visiting during my stay.
Futon was perfectly comfy and the cats were hilarious.
I didn't get a chance to meet Sara in my night in Memphis, however she was an excellent host. The home is cozy and close to everything in downtown Memphis.
