Casa Rancho is a beautiful oasis outside of Todos Santos. The room was very clean and the communal kitchen is a great space and very usable. Loved the pool and having it to ourselves.
Would definitely recommend a car if staying here. The walk is no joke! Although one can take a taxi pretty close for $4-5. Closest place to eat is La Esquina, which is awesome!
Caroline and I spent four days at Alec's gorgeous and relaxing place in Todos Santos. The off-the-beaten-path accommodations were exactly what we love: beautiful casitas and lush (for the desert!) landscaping, two sweet pups that roam around cheerfully, and a perfect salt water pool. Alec himself is also just what we're looking for in a host. He is personable and thoughtful, and full of excellent local knowledge and suggestions, while letting guests feel independent and like they have their own Baja oasis. We found Todos Santos to be an utterly charming and welcoming small town, with a range of fantastic eating options, from the wealth of locally grown produce to a number of fantastic vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants. That said, we would definitely recommend that visitors have access to a car while staying if they'd like to venture into town often or visit neighboring beaches and towns. Alec and his place perfectly matched our desires for a little getaway, and you can't beat the price. We'll be back for sure!
A slice of paradise! The compound is beautiful cool gardens with shades of palms and s beautiful salt water pool. The slower pace and walk to the store and the beautiful comfortable cafe is just perfect. We wanted to walk a lot so we are clocking 3-8 miles a day. A car might make this trip more comfortable for some wanting a busier vacation. Although we did rent a car for a few days and found the police in la Paz stopped us twice and wanted cash to let us go. I would recommend not going to la Paz but staying in this sweet oasis of todo santos. Alec is easy to work with and supplies all you need in the kitchens including bottled water. The sunsets are beautiful from the patio! And the other guests add to this delightful experience. The beaches we found are too rough to swim in but the pool by far makes up for that.
Alec was an excellent host. The first night we arrived he suggested a beautiful spot for dinner - Chez Laura. The room was clean, the pool was perfect and his dogs are some of the sweetest creatures I have ever encountered. Thank you Alec for all that you do to make this oasis in the desert a very relaxing and comforting place to be at peace with the world.
One tip for future travelers: consider a sturdy rental car as the roads are not so great for a compact. Also be sure to visit La Balandra beach in La Paz, as well as La Esquina cafe.
A hurricane has destroyed most of Todo Santos. The place was impossible for me to find. I didn't get refunded my money.
Our stay was amazing. My girlfriend and I were pleasantly surprised with the quality of accommodations upon arrival. The directions from the airport were very detailed and helpful. Alec was a great host very approachable and helpful in every way. The grounds are beautiful, the town is quaint and people are friendly. A fantastic place to unwind and slow down, we would highly recommend staying here to anyone and we can't wait to go back. Thanks Alec!!
We were in one of the individual rooms with a private bathroom. For the price, it was alright. However, I think the pictures are mainly of the houses and casitas. Based on my communications with Alec, I was expecting a room similar to the one pictured with a green towel, with a single queen and a bathroom as pictured. It turned out to be a smaller room, with a double and a single bed and a small bathroom separated by a room divider. The room was okay, but the beds had very sunken mattresses and flat pillows. We are a couple and wanted to sleep on the same bed, but it was difficult as the mattress was so soft and sunken, we would just roll into one another. Even though there were two of us, we only got a single towel. One of the nights, we had to kill a cockroach in the shower. The room also had a strong, sulphuric smell. The other issue was mostly related to the fact that we opted for a room, which only has a shared kitchen - the other couple sharing the space was a bit messy and this impacted our first impression of the kitchen. It smelled like garbage and was full of dirty dishes. They did clean it up before they left and this is just one of the risks of sharing a kitchen with strangers. There was also a bit of garbage by the pool, which may have also been the other couple. Unfortunately, it never got cleaned up while we were there.
The location of the Caso Rancho is on a hill in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of the town. You could walk to Todos Santos but it would take a long while. It's more of a place to drive to. The road there is unfinished so this is something to be aware of.
