Escape to this secluded home with loads of entertainment options! The perfect choice for a Rocky Mountain family experience! We made a comfortable, secluded home for ourselves in these beautiful mountains and want to share it with other families when we are away.

We have a hot tub, BBQ, pool table, dart board, big screen lounge, strong Wifi, wood stove, outdoor fire pit, forest trail access, and are close to Nederland. Zero-waste friendly!

The space
THE YARD/ NATIONAL FOREST
Beyond the yard you can find access to a great hiking trail that runs through the National Forest that burned in the Cold Springs Fire of 2016. The stunning wildflowers and rapid regrowth are incredible to witness. The trail extends for about a mile in either direction from the house and makes the perfect outing to get some of that energy out.

OUR ZERO-WASTE PHILOSOPHY
As a family, we attempt to produce as little waste as possible. We aren't perfect by any means, but we have taken measures in our household to reduce our waste and use of plastics. Some of these include:
-We use cloth napkins for EVERYTHING - as napkins, rags, kerchiefs - we do not have paper towels or kleenex. Please feel free to use our cloth napkins generously!
-We have old towels in the hall closet that we use for big spills
-We buy food in bulk (without packaging) and store in jars
-We utilize a french press for coffee and grind our beans in the morning (please bring your own coffee - we love the Gypsy Blend from Salto in town)
-We use reusable bags and beeswax wrap in lieu of plastic baggies and plastic wrap
-We have tons of Ball jars and lids that we use for leftover food storage, drinks, wine, and to-go cups. Please feel free to use them as your to-go cup during your stay!
-In the kitchen, we have a compost bin, recycle bin, and tiny trash can. We do not use trash bags except for a compostable bag liner in the compost bin. The only other household waste bins are in the bathrooms.
-We believe that soap is soap is soap (c: As such, our kitchen dish soap is our hand soap (diluted Dr. Bronner's unscented castille soap)
-We fill up our shampoo and conditioner bottles at the co-op in Nederland, please feel free to use! We also use baby-gentle, unpackaged bar soap in our bathrooms.

THE KITCHEN
You will find plenty of spices and oils in our kitchen. We have a hot water tap, food processor, Vitamix, and standing mixer. We do offer a French Press for coffee, however, we do not have a coffee maker because those tend to be made of plastic. We do live here so these are our supplies but you are welcome to anything you find and we will be sure you have plenty of space in the refrigerator and freezer for things you bring.

THE LAYOUT
The main floor has the open kitchen/living room, master bedroom, master bath, 1/2 bath, laundry room, and access to the hot-tub deck - all on the same level with only two steps up to the porch for access. This makes the house very accommodating for those with mobility concerns.

The stairs have gates to keep little ones safe. There are two office-style work areas upstairs - each with an outside deck that look out on the Continental Divide. Downstairs we have a game room, the second full bath, a common room with a futon-style couch and outdoor access, a bedroom with a queen bed, and the bunk room which hosts 4 twin beds.

The game room has a lounge area and big screen. We offer NetFlix and Hulu as well as Wifi for you to stream off of your device. The pool table is the centerpiece of the game room and at the far end we have a dart board to challenge your hand-eye coordination.

The living room has a wood stove and a plentiful supply of wood for those cozy nights. It opens onto a large deck with the hot tub and looks down to the patio - complete with a picnic table and BBQ Grill. Out in the yard past the patio you will find a covered fire pit. Since forest fires are the primary concern in this area the covered design enables us to even have an outdoor fire.

EVENTS
We want to share this space we created with other families but we are NOT interested in hosting any parties or events. Groups of very respectful, low-key, mature adults are welcomed as well. Our neighbors are our friends and we want to preserve the peaceful and quiet nature of the area - but its just too nice not to want to share!

Guest access
The entire house will be available to you except for a few places we will store our personal belongings while you are here so you have closets and such for your things. Our nursery will be closed off to store our things unless you state that you have an infant - then we will figure out some other place to put it so your baby can share our little one's space and crib.

We have a detached garage which is not part of the offering and will hold any of our things we need to get out of your way.

Since we are out-of-town during your stay our local host, Reid, will take care of any needs or concerns you have. Otherwise, we want you to make yourselves at home and relax!

Other things to note
Quiet neighborhood - sound travels up in the mountains - so please tone things down around 10pm at the latest.

There are wild animals in the area: bear, moose, mountain lion, foxes, raccoons - so please follow the trash disposal rules so as not to attract them. Also, when you recycle be sure not to put any bags in with the recycling and rinse the containers first.

To get to the house you will turn off of the main highway at the dam onto Hurricane Hill Road. That road connects to Ridge Road. Those are paved. The turn into the neighborhood takes you onto a dirt road - however, access is easy and not one of the difficult forest roads that some neighborhoods have in the area. Our neighborhood road is 15 mph but that is actually a bit fast! The houses are spread apart well but you will likely find someone out for a stroll in the beautiful, shady pine grove that makes up the landscape.

Our house backs to National Forest land and has access to a great trail. A rock outcropping behind the house offers some amazing views where occasionally we will have a glass of wine or cup of tea at sunset. A trail leads to the top from the back side.

I love to be outside. When not working part-time as a “lightweight” investment banker I can be found (mostly) in the Colorado Rockies hiking before sunrise, trail running in the dark after work, setting first ski tracks, or climbing with friends. I also canoe, raft, ice climb and occasionally ultra-lounge (preferably outside, instigated by my partner Jake). My largest adventure yet was an eleven-month hike with two girlfriends up the length of South America (completed August 2012). We were quickly dubbed the “Tres Chicas Locas” (three crazy girls) by locals learning of our Andean hiking endeavor. We award the greatest success of our trip to the maintenance and deepening of their friendship.
