Well-sealed, cozy treehouse with AC and heat tucked in the woods, with steps for easy entry. Large windows overlook stream. Site has picnic table, grill and fire ring. Full-size comfy mattress in loft. WiFi with 4KTV. Outdoor hot tub is on the deck of our house and open to guests 24/7. Trailhead at treehouse has access to miles of easy trails. Fridge, microwave, Keurig. No bathroom at treehouse, but guests have exclusive use of our guest bathroom in our main house anytime - just a short walk.

The space
Returning guests: please send a request, and we'll respond with a special offer! We also have a place in our heart for school teachers!

Calendar update: Our vacation schedule for the summer and early fall is not yet certain, so we have blocked the dates for now. Please check back, as dates will open!

COVID-19: Anne (public school teacher) and I (emergency responder) are both vaccinated. Nevertheless, we wanted to share with our guests, that we take cleaning very seriously! In addition to our normal cleaning we perform after each guest checks out, we have also added an ozone treatment to the treehouse space between each guest. Ozone is a powerful sanitizing agent (like bleach for the air), which will clean all surfaces where air can flow, including the air handler for the heat pump. We also thoroughly sanitize the bathroom at our house, which is used exclusively by our guests. We want our guests to be assured that we do everything we can to protect you and ourselves! This process takes us a little extra time, so unless no one has stayed the night before, the earliest possible check-in would be 3PM, and please check out no later than noon.

The space:

This treehouse occupies a secluded spot inside the edge of the woods, hidden in the trees. Great for couples or someone looking for a little solitude. (We have a cot available for a possible third guest, and ground space available for a tent.) Deer and other animals often walk up and drink out of the stream. The interior smells of cedar and is well-sealed from the outdoors. Some of the wood finishing and rails in the treehouse are hand-cut cedar from Jimmy Dean's estate on the James River.

We regret that guests may not use the wood stove located inside the treehouse. If you have a lot of experience with wood stoves, let's talk about it first. We just don't want there to be any safety issues!

When the heat pump isn't required, electricity can be provided by solar and battery storage with enough power to run everything in the space for many hours. If heating or AC is needed, utility electricity is also available, as the solar array can't run the AC/fridge/microwave. Do you want to be 100% off-grid? It's up to you!

We have added a heat pump (Oct 2019), refrigerator (Oct 2019), a spacious outdoor deck (Nov 2019) to the treehouse, and a renovated guest bathroom at our house (Dec 2020)! We also have Prime video and Disney+ (January 2020).

No pets please!

We live on the outer edge of a subdivision with access to a few hundred acres of county property. The treehouse is just inside the woods edge. Other than natural noises and forest animals, very few other sounds can be heard, except for an occasional plane from the nearby airport. If you're sensitive to light, be prepared to wake up when the sun rises, as the big picture window overlooking the forest has no shades. No need to worry about privacy though, as there are curtains on the front windows and the treehouse is well-hidden among the trees.
