About This Listing
The house sleeps up to 8 guests comfortably. The Haybarn is a mix of old and modern and equipped with everything needed for a fantastic holiday. Located in a prime area to take advantage of the many day trips and activities available in both Wales and Shropshire.
Powys is the largest county in Wales and one of the least populated in the UK. This means that there are many places to discover and enjoy but without the stress and at your own pace. Obviously some of the best things to do in the county involve exploring the glorious countryside where you will find waterfalls, mountains and forests. There are also many beautiful market towns to visit such as Welshpool and Montgomery which has recently opened a fantastic Michelin starred restaurant, the Chequers.
There are many country pursuits available in the area and with great possibilities to play golf, go horse riding, fishing and shooting among many other activities. The breathtaking Snowdonia can be reached in under an hour from the house as can the beach both of which make fantastic day trips that we highly recommend.
Although in Wales the house is on also on the Shropshire border which also has so much to offer. Fantastic examples of Tudor architecture can be found in towns such as Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Chester as can some of the country's favourite food, Ludlow has more Michelin starred restaurants outside of London than anywhere else in the UK! Shropshire was the birthplace of the industrial revolution and you can see great examples of it's revolutionary past in places such as Ironbridge and the renowned Victorian model village at Bliss Hill for example. There are also great walks around close by such as at Church-Stretton, the Long Mynd and the Styper stones to name but a few.
The local area is full of attractions and things to do, some of the local activities we recommend include: visiting the National Trust around Powis Castle in Welshpool which is said to have the best gardens in the country; a ride on the well-known Llanfair-Welshpool steam railway; a visit to the Redwood plantation in Forden; taking a spot of lunch in the Victorian 5 star hotel overlooking the stunning lake Vyrnwy after a walk; a visit to the highest waterfall in Wales, Pistyll Rhayder or simply enjoying some of the great walks straight from the door which include trails on the Offa's Dyke that go around the famous and historic Leighton Estate

The house is perfect for people looking for a place to relax, we do not rent out the property for events, parties or Batchelor parties.
The area is just gorgeous and there was so much to do with children as well as lovely walks just on the doorstep. The house itself was a great space to socialise in although could do with some TLC (fridge shelf broken, showerhead broken, doors not closing properly) and perhaps not an ideal place for babies who need to nap as there is a lot of impact noise from the living space above the ground floor bedrooms. Our mattress was terribly uncomfortable but to Miles' credit he very amicably and immediately tried to get us a new one. Take all your own supplies as no dishwasher tablets or olive oil etc there.
Muy atento, además que hablaba nuestro idioma por lo que mucho más fácil para contactarlo. Muy simpático y confiable
What a lovely place to stay! The Haybarn is a great conversion with lots of interesting features. We made lots of use of the wood burner and the neighbours were really helpful with our search for logs (Rollo and Miles left us plenty for the first night). The location is beautiful; a really special and over looked part of the Uk. Lots of walks (including Offa's Dyke) to do and a good number of National Trust properties to visit. We also took the steam train from Welshpool which was fun. Rollo was really helpful and easy to communicate with before hand. I would definitely recommend it!
We had a great time, the Haybarn is so spacious and comfortable and an excellent location for exploring north/central Wales. Rollo also managed to arrange five days of unbroken sunshine for us - you really can't ask for more than that! Will definitely go back...
The barn was lovely! I only stayed a night and was at first a little tricky to find however Rollo's brother gave me directions and we soon arrived to a huge barn. The fire was ready to be lit and all we needed to do was relax. The barn had a great kitchen with all you need, and huge dining table perfect for a family or group of friends wanting some time in the country. The supermarket was only a 5 minute drive too. Would definitely recommend it!
