We fell in love with Hawaii because of the Aloha spirit. We want others to enjoy the spirit of Aloha, too. Many of our guests have toured the island and returned to us before leaving Kona. All have raved about our comfortable, clean, affordable ohana, our home and hospitality. They say this was their favorite place to stay in Hawaii, and a better value than other places they stayed. They vow to return and to send friends.

Interaction with Guests
We are currently off-island caring for family members with medical needs, but are available 24/7 via cell phone and text messages. We have wonderful cleaning staff, landscapers, property managers, and a cadre of professionals who can handle any needs that might arise. You just have to let us know, and we'll respond quickly. We are currently renting two separate parts of our home, the upstairs "apartment", and the downstairs ohana (in-law unit). Both apartments are private, independent spaces. Our Airbnb guests have all been splendid and considerate of guests in both spaces.
Our neighborhood semi-remote, but close to everything. We are 7 min. from the airport, but hear no noise, as it is not legal to fly over land on the Big Island (except to land and take off).
We are 10 min. from Costco, 12 min. from town and shopping, 20-45 min. from fantastic beaches. Our area is perfect for day trips in all directions! Then you come home to a peaceful setting at a comfortable elevation.
The neighborhood has dogs, wild turkeys, and birds that can sing loudly in the morning. If you are sensitive to noise, you might want to bring soft earplugs.
Public Transit is not irregular on the Big Island. Buses run infrequently, and the nearest bus is about 2 miles away--up a steep hill. You need a car to get around and see all of the great things the Big Island has to offer.
Other Things to Note
We will email our series of "Great Places to See on the Big Island", with links to websites, maps and recommendations for great restaurants, favorite beaches and art galleries, etc.

Caryl was a great host. We booked kind of last minute and though the delays were short, she was very responsive and flexible. She sent us plenty of information on things to do around Kona.
The surroundings were very safe and pleasant. Very close to the airport as well which was a major plus. This being said, you should somewhat plan your trip before booking a room/apartment. Big Island is quite big and you may want to book another AirBnb for the second half of your stay. I would suggest booking something closer to Hilo for the second half. This way, you'd be close to the volcano and other activities in the area.
On a final note, when the upstair apartment is occupied, it can get pretty noisy. You hear pretty much everything from music, footsteps, etc.. If you aren't spending much time at the apartment, this can be a minor detail. Also very closely linked to how noisy is your upstair neighbour.
Overall great experience!
Caryl was a fantastic host! We started our trip on the Big Island in Hilo and Caryl provided us with lots of fantastic information about things do do and see on the trip between the two sides of the island. Once we arrived at the house we found a cozy, comfortable (plus spotless) studio with a wonderful outdoor patio.
Another fantastic bonus was the snorkeling and beach goodies that could be borrowed which allowed me and my boyfriend to have some truly magically experiences while exploring the reefs surrounding Kona.
Although the house is not in the center of Kona we really enjoyed the location, it is perfectly situated between the beaches of the north and the snorkeling in the south.
Overall we had a fantastic time at the apartment, the room looks exactly like in the pictures and there were plenty of amenities to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible.
Me and my wife stayed at the Caryl's ohana for 5 nights and it was a very pleasant experience. The house (a whole first floor) was exactly as pictured and we even realized that it's bigger and more spacious in reality that on the photo. Neighborhood is very quiet and friendly.
Right after we booked it, Caryl sent us a bunch of super useful tips what to visit on the Big Island, where to buy the best and the least expensive food & gas, which was really helpful. The house was fully equipped - from bathroom towels to coffee filters, never run our of anything. There were other guests living on the second floor, although we had almost never met with them and didn't hear them (almost, once we had heard the walking sounds which was a little bit annoying, but it was only one day when we went to sleep early)
The home and neighborhood was lovely, and the bed was so comfortable. The location was convenient to getting so many different places. The lanai was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the morning or evening breeze. One reviewer commented on a yappy dog nearby, and it's true there is one, and it reflects poorly on those neighbors. But I did not hear it while I was sleeping. I was out and about a lot during the day and found the apartment stayed a little too warm for my liking in the evenings after I closed the lanai doors to go to sleep (you can take the girl out of the city, but getting the city out of the girl is more challenging). Even so, I'd stay here again.
Great location, excellent communication from Caryl, comfortable bed, large bathroom with washer and dryer just outside, and a kitchen with just about everything we needed to cook and store food in the fridge/containers -- we saved so much money as a result!
What's more, there was snorkelling equipment, a cooler for the beach, and many other useful items available, which helped make this trip very enjoyable.
We highly recommend Caryl's home if you're staying on the Big Island of Hawaii.
