We fell in love with Hawaii because of the Aloha spirit. We want others to enjoy the spirit of Aloha, too. Many of our guests have toured the island and returned to us before leaving Kona. All have raved about our comfortable, clean, affordable ohana, our home and hospitality. They say this was their favorite place to stay in Hawaii, and a better value than other places they stayed. They vow to return and to send friends.

Interaction with Guests
We are currently off-island caring for family members with medical needs, but are available 24/7 via cell phone and text messages. We have wonderful cleaning staff, landscapers, property managers, and a cadre of professionals who can handle any needs that might arise. You just have to let us know, and we'll respond quickly. We are currently renting the upstairs area of our home, and the ohana (in-law unit) downstairs. There is plenty of space and privacy for all. And our Airbnb guests have all been splendid and considerate.
Our neighborhood semi-remote, but close to everything. We are 7 min. from the airport, but hear no noise, as it is not legal to fly over land on the Big Island (except to land and take off).
We are 10 min. from Costco, 12 min. from town and shopping, 20-45 min. from fantastic beaches. Our area is perfect for day trips in all directions! Then you come home to a peaceful setting at a comfortable elevation.
The neighborhood has dogs, wild turkeys, and birds that can sing loudly in the morning. If you are sensitive to noise, you might want to bring soft earplugs.
Public Transit is not irregular on the Big Island. Buses run infrequently, and the nearest bus is about 2 miles away--up a steep hill. You need a car to get around and see all of the great things the Big Island has to offer.
Other Things to Note
We will email our series of "Great Places to See on the Big Island", with links to websites, maps and recommendations for great restaurants, favorite beaches and art galleries, etc.

We loved our stay and found everything we needed. The fruits left in the basket for us were delicious, kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, there were plenty of towels including beach towels available. If you like to read books/watch movies, there was a good selection available, too. The neighborhood was quiet and very peaceful, you can hear birds in the morning when you open windows. The internet was reasonably fast. This was a great location, close to airport, awesome beaches (Kua Bay), restaurants and others but definitely recommend renting a car.
My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Caryl's Ohana on the Big Island.
Location: less than 10 mins from the Kailua-Kona International Aiport, it was very convenient. Also, it was only 15 mins away from downtown Kona where all the restaurants/bars were, making dining out very easy. No, there is no A/C, but being up at a slightly higher elevation, we were never hot or uncomfortable during our stay. Being in a residential neighborhood, we got a genuine feel of Hawaii living.
Accommodations: The Ohana was perfect, and the price can't be beaten! Don't waste money on a hotel when you can stay at this home away from home. All linens were provided, kitchen was fully stocked with all that you need to cook: spices, pots/pans, cooking oil, etc; except for groceries of course. Local fruits were also provided as a wonderful snack during our stay. Bathroom was very clean, shower was clean, and most importantly, the living room/bedroom was very clean as well. The bed was very comfortable, sheets were clean, and the pillows were comfortable as well. We also utilized the washer/dryer at the side of the house, and it was nice that laundry detergent and dryer sheets were provided.
Property: When arriving at the Ohana, you can tell the property and the surrounding area is well kept. Very private, and neighbors never bothered us and kept to themselves. It was definitely very homie.
Communication: Although Caryl wasn't physically there, she made sure all of our needs were met. The wifi wasn't working when we got there, but she had her property manager fix it right away and it was up and running before we knew it. She checked in with us from time to time to ensure we were comfortable and to see if we needed anything. Be it by phone call or text, she was very polite and caring, felt like family.
If you need a place to stay and want to avoid all the other tourists but still want a comfortable living situation, look no further than Caryl's property, you definitely will be more than pleased. Book now, you cannot beat her rates! For our first AirBnB experience, we are more than satisfied. Thank you Caryl!
Caryl's Ohana was a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busier Kona. You really feel like you're away. Having a keypad and not needing a key was really nice as well. This is definitely not a hotel and you should expect to be amongst nature. There are plenty of amenities to keep you comfort table. If you're like my wife and I, we don't spend much time inside and are out exploring and eating as much as we can! This makes a perfect place if you need just the basics to come back to: bed, shower, basic but complete kitchen.
Caryl contacted us multiple times prior to arrival to provide information and followed up with emails. She sent recommendations for activities, restaurants, sites, and events. We have been to the Big Island multiple times and try to do something new with each visit. After arrival Caryl contacted us to be sure everything was in order and we had everything needed. We came to visit our daughter and family and the location of the property was near them.
This was our first airbnb experience & we weren't sure what to expect. Caryl made things easy & gave us lots of local info & treats as well. Great communication throughout whenever we had questions too. Nice clean accommodations in a great residential area.
