We fell in love with Hawaii because of the Aloha spirit. We want others to enjoy the spirit of Aloha, too. Many of our guests have toured the island and returned to us before leaving Kona. All have raved about our comfortable, clean, affordable ohana, our home and hospitality. They say this was their favorite place to stay in Hawaii, and a better value than other places they stayed. They vow to return and to send friends.

You set the pace. It's your vacation. We are happy to interact at your convenience, but also give you as much space as you like.
We are only gone for tennis, beach time, or family medical emergencies.
Our neighborhood is quiet and secluded. Remote, but close to everything. We are 7 min. from the airport, but hear no noise, as it is not legal to fly over land on the Big Island (except to land and take off).
We are 10 min. from Costco, 12 min. from town and shopping, 20-45 min. from fantastic beaches. Our area is perfect for day trips in all directions! Then you come home to peace and quiet at a comfortable elevation.
Public Transit is not great on the Big Island. Buses run infrequently, and the nearest bus is about 2 miles away--up a steep hill. You need a car to get around and see all of the great things the Big Island has to offer.
We love having visitors from all over the world. We love getting to know you, hearing about your life, you home, and helping you get the most out of your time on the Big Island. And we give you plenty of space and privacy. We love Hawaii, and we hope you will too.

We had a great stay at Caryl's Kona house, it very comfortable, super quite, and spacious. The house has a view to the ocean, and within 10min driving distance to the Kona downtown area with shopping and restaurants. Its fully equipped with all the cooking wears and pantry staples. Caryl was a great host, she provided coffee, breakfast cereals, and even snorkel gears and beach chairs! we pretty much had everything that needed to spend a good day on the beach! We definitely recommend Caryl's place for Kona visitors.
we had a lovely time. Clean space with everything one would need for a comfortable stay. Close to everything. Our host was very helpful and gave us insightful tips for our journey.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Caryl and John's ohana. Caryl was prompt when responding to communication and flexible when a flight delay brought us in a day later than expected. She had to be out of town for our visit so her husband, John, was our host upon arrival. He made us feel welcome and totally at home, sharing helpful tips and ideas about places we planned to visit. He really enhanced our stay; we felt like we were staying with family. The ohana itself was clean and really well equipped with all the comforts of home but a much better view! They provide you with goodies for the beach (towels, chairs, sun shades etc) and the kitchen was also very well stocked (including a growler for trips to Kona Brewing). We enjoyed the fresh fruit that John left out for us and all the little touches that made us feel comfortable. We highly recommend staying here if you plan on visiting the Big Island.
Caryl was a great host, even though she wasn´t home during our stay, she made sure we were taken care of!
We can only recommend this clean and spacious stay. Perfect for a couple or for two!
She had lots of to do´s information waiting for us, DVD´s or books about the Island! We enjoyed sitting outside on the ohana while eating breakfast and dinner. The kitchen had everything we needed and more! As well as the bathroom! There were coolers, boogie boards, snorkelling gear, etc. to use for beach trips. The house is in a very nice neighborhood overlooking the coast. The airport or Kailua-Kona are both just 15 minutes away.
We had a great time, thanks again Caryl.
This was a very comfortable and clean place to stay, we enjoyed our stay here very much. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking basics and there was beach stuff there for our use as well. We would stay again if we returned.
Very nice, spacious place to stay and explore the big island. Caryl (actually the whole family) is a very friendly and great, accommodating host, you will have everything you can possibly need. She even gave us fresh local fruits, cereals and coffee. And some good advice what to see and how to get there. We had a good time!
Nice: There are also books, guides and DVDs about life in Hawai'i.
The reservation was canceled 27 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Caryl's place is light, spacious and peaceful, and Caryl offered many suggestions for the surrounding area. Despite the neighboring dog barking till late and being woken up early by roosters, I slept surprisingly well!
The barking dog has moved away. We no longer have the one little dog who barked when his owners were away at night. We can't promise complete silence. Other dogs do bark occasionally, but our other guests say they have not been disturbed by the occasional dog bark.
Tropical birds sing in the morning, and the rooster across the street crows to welcome the day.
Our other guests say they have not been disturbed by the rooster, and they enjoy the tropical birds.
Our neighborhood is much more quiet than the downtown hotel and condo area.
We offer ear plugs for anyone who wants them--and you can take the ear plugs for the plane…
Staying at Caryl Burns made for a great vacation in Hawaii for the following reasons:
1. The place was beautiful, tranquil and very clean.
2. Caryl greeted us with a kind Aloha and helped us settle in and get acquainted with the accommodations. From the literature describing who what when and where on Hawaii, along with personal suggestions, fresh fruit, kitchen condiments, and stocked kitchen ware.
3. We felt at home being able to cook on our own time, pack lunches, and were able to use any of Caryl's beach and snorkeling gear (coolers, beach umbrella, beach chairs, boogie boards, flippers etc.) free of charge! Many places charge a rental fee.
4. The location is set away from the downtown area. We loved this as it was quite, private, and since it is a higher elevation cooler than downtown, not at all cold though. The location is perfect if you rented a car, which you absolutely should to get around the whole island conveniently as we did, and close but not all too close to the airport. I preferred staying here than close to downtown Kona as there is hardly anything open later than 6p-9pm anyways, and going back to Caryl's was like a private getaway.
5. I appreciated Caryl's many suggestions on where to go what to see, and how she also gave us space and was not overbearing at all.
I would absolutely recommend staying here, and would come back when I visit Hawaii again.
Caryl welcomed us kindly and right away offered helpful information to help us feel more familiar with directions. We loved having banana and papaya for breakfast and snacks and appreciated the coffee and other goodies she provided for us as well! We enjoyed having so much space to ourselves, and her home is in a wonderful location for exploring the west coast.
