  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse and appreciated having such a family-friendly home base from which to explore the Big Island. In addition to being a comfy and cozy home, the property itself was a fun location, given the array of farm and wild animals we were able to see and hear during our stay. Thanks to Elizabeth and Barney for a lovely home away from home!

  • I highly recommend Elizabeth Jenkin's farmhouse. It is clean, uncluttered, airy and comfortable. Her instructions about how to find it in the dark were impeccable as were her instructions about the house itself. She and her husband were gracious and responsive. It is an excellent value for the dollar.

This farmhouse would be a great location for a family vacation with space to gather, share a meal, and just hang out.

I hope one day to return.

  • The Farmhouse on the Kona Organic Farm close to Naalehu, HI, was an ideal place for our family vacation. We came to the Big Island not only to see some of the unique highlights of the island, but to also have some quality family time together. Our group included grandparents, parents and grandchildren – the oldest grandchild 6 years and the youngest 7 months. The spacious house and glorious outdoors provided just what we needed. The 6 year old could safely run to his hearts content, watch the turkeys and sheep, gather grapefruit and macadamia nuts while the baby slept.

The sleeping arrangements worked well. Beds and bedding all comfortable. The kitchen setup and dining area allowed us to prepare and serve meals. The dishwasher, washer and dryer helped us manage the usual family messes with ease.

The location is as described – halfway between Kona and Hilo and is an hour and a half drive. As mentioned, there are some beaches and grocery stores about 15 minutes from the house. Tourist attractions require a longer driver. Some days we were gone all day, other times we enjoyed the peace and fun of being on the farm.

Elizabeth and Barney are friendly, informed, helpful and interesting hosts. One highlight certainly was when Barney allowed us to help shell some macadamia nuts. It’s quite a process! Staying at the Farm - gave us a unique opportunity to get a sense of the real, non-touristy world of Hawaii. If that’s what you’re looking for, this is the place for you.
