About this listing
We are very proud of our location, in the center of Reykjavik city, in few minutes walking distance to all major tourist attractions, museums and most popular restaurants – but still in a quiet residential area.
Together with this one, we offer six other elegant studio-apartments in our guesthouse House of the Spirits in the center of Reykjavik - in few minutes walking distance to all the most important tourist attractions, restaurants, museum etc. - but still in a quiet residential area.
All our studios have a private en-suit small bathroom and a fully equipped kitchenette.
Bed-linen and towels are provided - as well as a wireless Internet connection, free of charge.
Full breakfast can be arranged for reasonable price - but we don't recommend it, as there is a grocery store in two minutes walking distance from our house - and we always provide for free coffee, tea, milk, muesli, butter and jam, oil, sugar and spices.
There is a possibility for an extra bed for third person for reasonable price.
Gunnar, the host, is a professor in Icelandic language and literature - and a professional tourist guide specialized in history, culture and geology. Fully licensed as a driver-guide, I offer private excursions in a private vehicle for up to 8 passengers.
We also help our guests organizing their stay in Iceland - and we take care of eventual bookings without any commission.
Feel free to contact us for any further information.
I live and work in the house the biggest part of the year. When I am at home the guests can reach me whenever they like. Sometimes during winter I stay in Paris - times and times. Than my assistant - also living in the house - takes care of everything. Our guests can always contact me by e-mail for any questions or problems - I try my best to answer immediately. Furthermore, my mobile number and my assistant's number are given to every guest.
Check-in is normally at 14.00 and check-out at 11.00. But we are flexible with both. We always try to have our apartments ready as early as possible for early arriving guests. In case you would have to wait, we would of course keep the luggage for you.
Our guests have access to a common hall where they find table and chairs - and brochures on activities and travel companies. In this hall there is also a cabinet full of things that our guests can take out as they wish: Extra coffee, tea, muesli, sugar and jam - and furthermore rice, pasta, wheat, oil and spices together with other practical products for making dinner.
Our guests also have a full and free access to our laundry in the basement with washing machines and dryers (washing powder and softener provided).
Interaction with Guests
As a professional tourist guide, I love to advise my guests and help them organizing their visit to the country.
We also take care of bookings for any tours and and pick-up if our guests wish - without any commission.
After confirming a booking, our guests will get a link to our special information web-page where you find useful information about our house, about your arrival, about staying in Iceland - and practical links to travel companies, car-rentals and recommended restaurants.
We are very proud of our location, in the center of Reykjavik city, in few minutes walking distance to all most important tourist attractions, museums and well known restaurants – but still in a quiet residential area. No bars, clubs or discos are in the neighborhood. (Still, Friday and Saturday nights, you might hear partying people walk by on their way downtown. But wherever in Reykjavik city, you could never avoid that – it is simply a part of the “week-end life” in Reykjavik).
The old harbor is in three minutes walking distance, with it’s nice restaurants and cafe's - and departure of all boats for whale-watching, bird-watching and fishing tours.
We always recommend a Fly-bus company that offers pick-up and drop-of at our house. All travel companies also offer the same service for tours.
Our guests don't really need public transportation. You can easily walk to all the most important tourist attractions in Reykjavik - and to a very nice swimming-pool. Only for going to the Árbær out-door museum or to the Laugardalur park - or possibly the Perla restaurant and point of view - you might prefer a bus or a taxi. Stations are in few minutes walking distance.
There are public parking spots all around our house, free from 18.00 (pm) to 09.00 (am) every day - from 16.00 Saturdays and the whole Sundays. In two minutes walking distance you have free parking day and night.
Other Things to Note
I live in the house and I use to welcome guests myself. When I am not at home, my assistant Simon - also living in the house - takes care of everything.
In any case, I open my mail-box constantly and answer phone-calls whenever - even at nights.
My mobile number is announced in every studio. Before arrival, guests get a message with that number and my assistant Simon's mobile number.
Both of us speak English, French and a Scandinavian language.
We kindly ask our guests to please:
- Always walk quietly through stairways and out-door.
- Keep silence at evenings and nights.
- Keep at least one window slightly open, day and night. (If you are cold, just turn up the heaters! There is no need to economize energy in Iceland - it is 100% clean and ecological.)
- When taking shower, using the curtains to avoid water going on the floor.
- At check-out, leave the keys on the table and door open.
Smoking is strictly forbidden in the house. In our back-yard there is a table and chairs where people can smoke without risking that the smoke disturbs other guests.
I am a professor in Icelandic language and literature - and a professional tourist guide, specialized in geology, history and culture. Beside running the guesthouse and welcoming my guests, I offer private excursion in a private vehicle for up to 8 passengers.
