Large, comfortable double room in our recently modernised house in a village near Braintree, Essex. The bed is a comfortable 4ft double bed, and there is also a double click-clack sofa bed in the room which would accommodate one or two extra guests (maybe a child?). Sole use of bathroom, plus use of kitchen/dining room/lounge. Breakfast provided. Modern TVs, and free wifi. Wood burner in the winter. We have a pleasant garden with guests' use of garden tables and chairs. Good road and rail links into London, nearest railway station is a short walk away from the house. We can collect you from the station, if necessary; either Witham, Braintree or Cressing Station. (50 minutes from London by train). Off road parking available at the house.
Stansted Airport is approx. 20 miles away, and we would be happy to collect you from Stansted airport on payment of just parking and petrol. (Normal taxi fare would be £30-40).
We can give you details about local places to eat, whether you want a cosy English pub with home cooked food, or whether you would prefer to go to Freeport (almost on our doorstep) with Nando's, Frankie & Benny's, Tutti, Aroma and MacDonalds - also to be found there is our 12 screen cinema and bowling alley!
We are based in the glorious North Essex countryside, just a few miles south of Colchester with its stunning castle and parklands, its quaint Dutch quarter, theatre and cinema. Maldon and Heybridge lie to the east on the Essex coast - spend a Sunday afternoon at Heybridge Basin, enjoying lunch or a cream tea on the terrace, watching the boats sailing in the sunshine, out towards the sea or in and out of the lock and onwards towards Chelmsford.
We have Constable Country at Dedham not far away, or maybe visit Finchingfield, said to be the the prettiest village in Essex with its village green, windmill, tea rooms and duck pond,
This area is known as an antique centre, especially Coggeshall (4 miles away) the Hedinghams, and Long Melford. In fact, the "Lovejoy" series about a loveable rogue antique dealer was mainly filmed in this area and some scenes were shot in our local fish and chip shop!
A warm welcome awaits our guests, and we look forward to meeting you...
We would like to know in good time please, approximate time of arrival.
No smoking in the house (obviously) and if smoking outside, cigarette ends to be disposed of considerately please.
If possible, please let us know in advance if you would prefer cooked breakfast or Continental breakfast, so that we can arrange for foodstuffs to be available.
We arrived very late, and Yvonne was extremely accommodating and understanding. The room was clean and comfortable with a comfy bed. I'm sure, had we not left at 5.00am in the morning, we would have been given marvellous breakfast!
Host listing error whereby booking was accepted but accommodation was not available. Host made efforts to find alternative accommodation and promptly offered a refund, good communication, hope to stay there another time
The room was comfortable and quiet. I appreciated the good TV as I was able to catch most of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
Yvonne and her husband were warm, friendly and hospitable. They keep chickens and I particularly enjoyed having the freshly boiled egg.
I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.
A very pleasant overnight stay following a warm welcome. Nice facilities and and excellent breakfast.. The Wifi was appreciated. We would confidently recommend this to any prospective guests
I am a lawyer by profession, now retired, and my partner Steve is a driver. We are a happy couple, and have a large extended family with six adult children between us. My baby grandson Oscar is a frequent visitor and tends to leave his toys all over the back garden, so it may be a little untidy when you visit! Steve is interested in classic cars and all things car-related, and I enjoy Ebaying and currently am learning to play the guitar. We both like travelling and are considering purchasing a caravan. In recent years we have been to Malta, Venice, the Adriatic on a cruise, Spain and France (several times as we had a mobile home sited there until recently). We like cinema, and have seen "The Iron Lady", "Descendants", "War Horse" and "Skyfall" recently. We both like music, although tend to prefer different genres. I tend to prefer middle of the road music, along with older styles such as Meatloaf and Queen. Steve is into the Stones and Dire Straits and the blues
lAs far as hobbies are concerned, I keep chickens partly for their eggs, and partly for their entertainment value. At the moment I have one old brown hen called (oddly enough) Henrietta, a little black bantam, two large grey hens which probably lay the most eggs, and a bantam called Speckledy Hen who can fly backwards and forwards over the top of the pen. As it is now summertime, the hens are in full lay and you can expect fresh free range eggs for breakfast!
We also have 3 cats, although not by choice - I am not the mad Cat Lady!
We tend to inherit them when other people move on!
Our philosophy on life is "If you want to do it, do it now! It may rain tomorrow!" So come and visit us now while the weather's fine!
