This is a unique and lovely, wood paneled studio in a safe, environmental and fairly high end rural neighborhood. It's newly built in 2009 with quality construction, fixtures and appointments and is 400 sq ft. It is well crafted and provides you plenty of privacy.
The cabin accommodates 2 people (queen size bed).
There is a lot of light with large southern windows as well as windows all around. A private back deck overlooks a small pasture and 540 acres of woods. This back view is very private and surrounded by nature.
It is within a one acre fenced yard and guarded by two lovely dogs who adore being rewarded for their hard work :) Next door is a mini two acre farm with chickens and roosters.
You will enjoy the peace and quiet (with roosters) of a country setting but with easy access to downtown. It is 4 miles to the outskirts of town and 7 miles to the center.
It has wireless internet, WC with shower, kitchen nook with sink, dorm size refrigerator, toaster, coffee pot, electrical plate & microwave (no full size stove), small flat screen T.V. with DVD player (no cable) and a very comfortable queen adjustable bed.
The studio is heated by an electric space heater with a wood stove as an option for those who like extra heat and/or romance. Wood is provided. It is cooled by three ceiling fans and an A/C window unit.
Coffee, tea, filtered water and cereal, soy milk/almond milk, orange juice and fruit for breakfast are provided.
Your sweet companion pets are welcome but please clear with host beforehand and crate them if you plan to leave them alone.
Athens is known for its music & arts scene, the University of Georgia & its football team (go dawgs!) Four miles from our house is a grouping of amenities including gas station and Sr. Sol (one of Athens best Mexican restaurant).
Interaction with Guests
I try to meet my guests at least once but often do not see them much as the studio is completely separate and private. Guests are always welcome to stop by the house for a visit!
No, unfortunately public transit does not come out this far.
Other Things to Note
The wireless network is 145 Three Oaks _ext
The password is: 6DFBF0E190 (those are zeroes and not O's) There is another network as well that may be even faster than 145 Three Oaks_ext. It is called STUDIO and the password is MayWeBeWhole (caps important). Try either one or both!
The wireless is amplified from the main house and hence is affected by weather and rain. The signal is fine for email and surfing but not for large file uploads and downloads.
We changed to charter cable as of January 2015. Hopefully it will work out better for file uploads and downloads.
Please, No smoking inside! Smoking allowed outside on deck.
Wood stove should not be cleaned by guests. Owner will clean out the ashes.
Wood provided by host.
Pets should not be allowed on bed unless an old sheet or blanket has been placed on top. Old towels for cleanup and for under water bowls is provided in cabinet under sink.
Dishes should be washed by guests before leaving.
It is not necessary to strip the bed.
Everything was perfect. Kate is a very gracious host and the cabin was spectacular. You can tell a lot of detail went into the building of this cabin.
Just a lovely cabin exactly as described. Kate had coffee, soy milk, cereal and fruit available for us which was a delightful touch. She and her very friendly dogs greeted us when we arrived and Kate offered any help in finding things to do in town. We were then left to our own devices and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the woods. Will surely stay again when in the area.
Kate Blane's place was the most beautiful cabin we've ever seen. The woodsy surroundings, privacy, and breakfast were delightful. She made us feel so welcome, and I hope we can stay there again.
From the bride and groom!
The cabin was PERFECT. Kate's place was great for quiet moments between wedding festivities. It's location is gorgeous, everything we needed (and more) was provided, and Kate was lovely and easy to communicate with. Thank you for a fantastic stay!
In plenty of time before our arrival, Kate emailed to tell us that she would not be at home on that day but told us where to find the key, how to reach her if needed, and everything else we needed to know to feel comfortable about the neighborhood. She also described what would be available for breakfast, how friendly her dogs are, and where to find additional information about the studio heating and plumbing. We felt very welcome before we even started packing for our trip!
Bunny and Joey, our canine hosts, were very welcoming when we arrived and made us miss our own dogs a little less. We loved being in the studio from the second we opened the door. It is in a very quiet spot with a great deck to relax on, listen to birds, and look out over nearby woods and open space. Inside, the beautiful custom woodwork and trim are a feast for the eyes, and makes it feel like being in a forest. Our first night was a bit chilly for late March, but the wood stove worked well to heat up the space, and the electric heat exchange unit was even quicker in the morning.
When we did meet Kate, she checked to make sure we had everything we needed for our five night stay and felt comfortable. She also helped us find our way around and suggested places to visit when we asked about the area. It was a great spot to be for proximity to the city of Athens, and also to outlying towns and counties that were definitely worth a visit. We can't wait to come back and stay again!
Absolutely loved our stay are Kate's. The little home in the woods was a sanctuary for us while in Athens for a wedding. With the windows open the cool breeze kept us company and comfortable. The dogs were a blast and loved tummy rubs. We would most certainly stay here again, in a heart beat.
We had such a great experience staying in Kate's studio. It is cozy, quiet and still close to everything in Athens. Kate was a great host and we would definitely stay here again!

I am retired from IT at the University of Georgia (UGA). My husband still teaches at UGA in computer science. I enjoy creating and sharing beautiful spaces and love meeting people. I hope you will come and enjoy our lovely town and experience our great local restaurants and the music that has made Athens famous - OK maybe football too :) If you have any questions be sure to ask and we can point you in the right direction!
