In this big house only the rooms are for rent, entitled to breakfast which is served from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in your room you will find a small refrigerator to have on hand your favorite drinks.
Beautiful “old” new house in Playacar phase 1, the most exclusive, tranquil and safe neighborhood in Playa del Carmen located right on the stunning Caribbean beach. Playacar phase one, where flowering gardens share spaces with ancient Mayan temples, is the ideal setting for this inviting bougainvillea-covered villa two short blocks from the beach.
A short five minute walk along the beach will take you the ferry boats to Cozumel and to Playa’s famous 5th avenue, the pedestrian street where locals and tourists converge to enjoy a wide array of cafés, restaurants, bars and shopping suitable for every taste and budget.
The owner and architect is a refined bohemian with an exquisite enjoyment of eating. His cook prepares delicious breakfasts for the guests every morning.
As solo traveller I was a bit nervous about my 1st Airbnb experience - I had no need to worry! The room was spacious, bright, secure, well equipped and exactly as described. The house itself is huge and the communal living area is a great spot to relax away from the heat. It's in a secure and gated development to the south of the main tourist centre which makes it quiet, safe and a great spot to escape. The only down side is that the walk into town (10-15 minutes) can be a hot walk during the middle of the day! If you can get over this then it's a perfect place to stay. The beach is very close and is much quieter than the beaches to the north so is naturally more relaxing and tranquil. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful and comfortable place to stay with a warm and very entertaining host! Thank you Mariano for welcoming me into your beautiful home and for the tequila tasting prior to my departure :D
Quiet, clean, safe, and best of all, the most beautiful beach, a short walk away.
Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious.
Probably one of the best bed and breakfast experiences we've had.
Thank you, Mariano, for your warm welcome and your excellent accommodations!
Mariano's Casa Tambuuco is even more welcoming and beautiful than the photos promise. The house itself is in the best tradition of indigenous architecture, with its handsome stone structure and vaulted ceilings tucked into a quiet, verdant neighborhood one block from a stunning stretch of white sand and blue-green ocean. The breakfasts at Casa Tambuuco, served in courses of tropical fruit, steaming coffee, and a special Mexican dish by a lovely, friendly housekeeper, are also times to engage with Mariano himself – a fascinating man who clearly enjoys his guests as a rich extension of his peaceful life in this private Paradise. We can't wait to go back.
Staying at Casa Tambuco was a great way to experience the beauty of Playa Del Carmen, the beach, the water, the wildlife, the adventure, while still being close enough to the restaurants and shops on 5th Ave (about a 10 minute walk). Mariano was an excellent host. He had great information on alternative things to do if we wanted to avoid some of the more touristy attractions in the area. It was wonderful to converse with him at breakfast each morning and he was always there if we needed anything. The breakfasts were fantastic and Bella and Gladys were so very sweet! We stayed in the downstairs room which has it's own private entrance, very clean and beautifully decorated. Because it's off of the main house the wifi did not quite work directly in the room but during our stay Mariano was in the process of working that out and I suspect that by the time the next guests arrive he will have done so...he gets stuff done! All in all, if you're looking for some relaxation, some sunshine, beach time (we thought the beach out front of Playacar was the most pristine and less crowded), an oasis from the tourist scene, stay at Casa Tambuco!
Mariano built this multistory house himself, and it is enchanting, with high ceilings, large windows, and lush vegetation all around. The house is about 50 meters from the beach and ten minutes’ walk from the bustling downtown of Playa del Carmen in a quiet, gated community filled with beautiful and unique properties. A retired engineer, Mariano is very knowledgeable and fluent in English, and the two ladies who cook and clean absolutely charming. The Mexican breakfast we ate every day was delicious, and the guests from the other two rooms made for interesting company. The ideal way to experience Playa del Carmen.
Whilst initially finding the place was a challenge, once we did we had a great time at Mariano's. The area is safe and is a solid 10 minute walk to 5th ave. The beach is super close as advertised. Mariano himself was a truly friendly and respectful man. Only real issue with the place was that it had a slight smell and the wifi was undiscoverable from the room itself. Aside from that, our stay was a good one.

After living in the post-jet set Acapulco, I wanted a change of sea.
And while I was searching, I found this corner of the Caribbean; this place that bewitched me with its history and its air of mystery. And here is where I built my new “old” house. I made it of stone and very spacious, and I brought with me memories and my old family furniture.
I hired a good cook so I could lavish attention on my friends and the friends of my friends. And that is what I have been doing here for the past 15 years.
