The chalet is warm and comfortable. Pick your own veg and enjoy the nature trail on our 9 acres. We are a short drive from beautiful and interesting sites including mountains;Sleive Mish and the Magillycuddy Reeks. Beaches Inch, Banna and more......

The space

Gortbrack Farm, located 5 miles outside Tralee town was set up by Eileen Carroll and Ian mcGrigor in 1991. Back then it was a neglected 10 acre strip with most of the land run over with rushes. This is the probable origin of it’s name ‘gort’ meaning ‘field’ and ‘breac’ meaning ’speckled’. With many willing hands it has developed into a comprehensive certified organic smallholding. We are ideally located for walking groups to explore the nearby Dingle penninsula, Killarney National Parks and much more in the diverse landscape of the southwest of Ireland. We are off the beaten track, so if you are not into too much exertion Gortbrack Organic Farm offers a quiet relaxing holiday experience for families or individuals to come and enjoy. The area is very scenic with mountains stretching out into the Atlantic ocean (bringing it’s share of rain!). But no matter what the weather is like, there’s plenty to see and do, or just take your ease.

Guest access

Cabins on Gortbrack Organic Farm opened in early 2009. Three timber frame cabins, run off solar panels and wood burning stoves. These cabins can be rented for the ideal secluded getaway, or for attending courses at Gortbrack. The cabins are built right in the heart of the farm so you can wake up every morning in the beautiful peace and tranquility of Gortbrack, take a wander on the bog and explore the Nature trail, gardens, polytunnels and visit the animals... Visit the Dingle peninsula and Killarney National Park . It is the ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.
We have information available on the area.

Interaction with guests

We live on site, meet and greet and give a tour of the farm. We are available to deal with guests requirements. Guests may avail of courses running on the farm - see website for details
Seasonal vegetables and eggs are available.

Other things to note

Tralee has many attractions for the family.
We can host groups for courses and have an event room. We have now installed broadband internet connection in all the cabins. We have a laundry room beside the cabins.

Ian and Eileen's farm is a true gem! It is as perfect for those who wish to dwell at the cabin, as it is for those who wish to explore the region. The cabin is roomy but cozy, is clean and has everything you need, even some complimentary vegetables from the farm! It was so much fun to be able to go out and find half of the ingredients you'd need for dinner right there on the farm. Also we loved playing with the dogs Cookie and Lola, being visited by the cats and visiting the donkeys.

They say it is a good sign when times passes fast, but the week at Gortback farm went by to quickly. :-) It is a perfect basis for discovering the marvels of Kerry, which are all at a convenient driving distance from the farm. Ian has many insightful tips to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. For me, the vegetables that I was allowed to harvest from the farm grounds myself were a great extra! I highly recommend a stay here.
