The charming and comfortable Drummond Bedroom features a cosy, antique double bed and boasts brilliant sea-views.
For guests who love traditional Victorian architecture and panoramic Scottish scenery, Carlton Seamill has much to offer.
An impressive, stone-built, Scottish Victorian house, dated 1883, Carlton occupies an ideal location at Seamill, on the Ayrshire coast. It enjoys a commanding view, over Seamill shore and beach, to the world-famous Firth of Clyde and the beautiful, mountainous Isle of Arran.
The Rennie Family have cherished Carlton carefully, for over 60 years. With most of its original period features still intact, it is a fine example of a Scottish Victorian family home. Guests frequently remark on the house’s relaxing, “get-away-from-it-all” atmosphere and on the craftsmanship, style and graciousness that are characteristic of the Victorian era.
On the ground-floor, the handsome, historically-detailed reception rooms afford magnificent views, over the Rose Garden and the Croquet Lawn, towards the peaks of Arran.
Throughout the house, Carlton’s elegant Victorian staircase conveys a feeling of light and spaciousness, leading to the comfortable, first-floor guest-accommodation.
Carlton’s west-facing garden-gate provides easy access to Seamill’s extensive, sandy beach – only a stone’s-throw away. Our guests typically enjoy walking along the beach on a lovely evening, watching the wheeling flocks of seabirds and the gregarious colonies of seals. If our guests are very fortunate, they may witness one of the fabulous, breathtaking sunsets for which the Firth of Clyde is renowned. At the least, lungfuls of healthy sea-air are guaranteed!
Some of Scotland’s finest restaurants are only a short drive from Carlton. For example, “Fins” (Seafood Restaurant) at Fencebay, Fairlie; “Braidwoods”, near Dalry; “The Waterside”, near Seamill. Information about these is readily found on the Internet.
The Seamill Hydro Hotel (bars and restaurants) and the Merrick Hotel (bar and restaurant) are only a few minutes’ walk away – along Ardrossan Road or, better still, just along the beach.
We had a lovely time in the b&b by the sea! Our hostess was quite friendly and helpful. She advised us on things to do and have us great directions too! We had lively conversation around the breakfast table and then started off on our merry way.
My daughter and I had a lovely stay with Avril. We're both big fans of vintage styling, and Avril's Victorian home is the real thing! A friendly and attentive host; comfortable beds; a good breakfast, beautiful sea views. If you're expecting all mod cons - you won't find them here, but you will enjoy all the charm of yesteryear. We were only here for a short stay this time, but I'm going to return with my husband to visit some of the islands, and we definitely be staying at Carlton Seamill.
The host Avril was nice and helpful. And the location is amazing. But honestly the room and house were kinda horrible. The house smelled bad, the carpet was shocking and the room/bed were not comfortable. We paid EUR 90 and it did not come close to being worth it.
The breakfast was pretty bad. I had a long stray silver hair mixed in with my egg...I stopped eating after that.
There are some friendly pubs only a short walk away and the nearby beach is worth a stroll. If I was to go back to West Kilbride I wouldn't stay here again.
Avril was extremely helpful with suggestions even before we arrived. A beautiful room overlooking the water. Her home is a B&B easy to find and walking distance to a couple of good eating options. Only stayed a night. Choices for a cooked breakfast offered by Avril. Very friendly and accommodating host.
Had a very lovely stay. Great view from the room. Enjoyed a fabulous sun set and an amazing home-cooked breakfast. :) Just perfect!
Avril is fantastic and up for a chat about anything. The view is fantastic from the main bedroom with a short walk to the beach and the occasional seal on the rocks. Nearby towns are easily accessible and have some great places to visit.
