We were so blessed to have stayed here and to have had Raj and his family as a host. Before we even arrived, he booked two major train journeys for us with great perseverance and communication, and I don't know how we would have done it without him. When we arrived, the room was exactly as listed: clean, bright, good AC and fan, and extremely secure (multiple security measures in place). The neighborhood has a very lively atmosphere when you walk about five minutes down to the main road, but around the house is very residential, so best of both worlds available. His wife cooked us dinner on request (well worth it!) and breakfast every morning (so yummy!) and even indulged my fantasy of homemade chai to my delight. They were friendly and helpful, and there was a good balance of interaction and privacy. We felt very much at home! Overall, if you want a location that is central and urban with a hospitable, personal host then look no further. We'll be staying here whenever we visit Mumbai!
We stayed three nights here, and both Raj and his wife was very helpful and friendly during our stay. Everyone who stays here should eat here, as the cooking is supernice! It is quite far from a lot of the typical touriststuff, so we spent more time in a taxi then we would have liked, but Bandra, which is really close, is a great area as well. All in all a good experience, and nice to stay with a local family. They have more than one room, so the quality f the room itself may be different.
We stayed 3 nights at Mr. & Mrs. Patel's lovely home, which came highly recommended from friends who had stayed there a year before us. We shall certainly be passing on a warm recommendation to others.
Very helpful and accommodating - we arrived around 2am, which wasn't a problem. Raj also helped us book our train tickets out of Mumbai (something which can be a hassle if you are not local) which proved very helpful. He let us borrow a spare SIM card for a few days too. We held good conversations with our hosts over home cooked breakfast and coffee.
The room - simple, spacious, private and clean, and comfortable. Very quiet, even though the train tracks are nearby, which you actually can't hear. A welcome haven in a busy city.
The area, Santacruz - right by the airport, which is convenient, but you do hear the occasional plane, but that is not a problem at all. It's a little removed from the centre, which is actually very easily accessible by taxi, rickshaw, or direct commuter train (recommended!). To be honest we actually preferred Santacruz and the Mumbai suburbs like Bandra, Pali, Juhu Beach, etc to actual centre. It felt like a more authentic experience.
All in all, a very nice welcome to us as newcomers to India. We'd certainly like to try and stay again next time.
Thanks and happy travels!
Nichola & Mitch
The asked price was expensive if you compare to the proposed service.
Really noisy, mainly because the landing of the flights nearby AND the railway, the district have currently waterworks so you have to stride over to get the way to your room.
The contact was very cold during the stay, and the room wasn’t really has excepted : the ceiling need to be repaired and the bathroom wasn’t clean as excepted (a big amount of black hair on the floor and a end of toilet paper) so this is didn’t match to the description.
Very few discuss with the host during the stay.
My opinion : 1/10, to avoid.
(People in the workingshop around said we were foolish to choose a house like in this discrict at this price )
The good point is you have a TV set (if you ask to have a working remote) and Mumbai have to be seen.
You have not stayed with us but it was your old flocks, yet you have commented without verifying or ever informing on any of the issues during their stay. Nevertheless our point-by-point reply is as under:
-There is NO COMPARISON to our price in the locality. Prove it by sending a direct mail to our ID before passing such baseless remarks.
-You were well aware that the place you are booking is close to airport but the noise level is very much bearable else why would thousands of families with kids and infants stay in this locality? You have also added FIGMENT of your IMAGINATION by stating noise from railway which is absolutely FALSE and BASELESS.
-The Govt. is carrying out the infrastructure projects all over the city, starting from airport itself. Would any sensible person/s connect our facility to the works going outside our building premises or locality? The approach to room is totally CLEAR. Your remark is FALSE.
-We are a very warm host family but on the contrary we found you to be absolutely COLD, egoistic and with ATTITUDE. Totally non-mixing type close minded old flocks.
-The room floor is very CLEAN and well maintained. How come you never pointed out to clean the hairs fallen, if any, during your stay of 3 days? Another figment of imagination?
-The toilet roll was enough to last for 10 days whereas your stay was only for 3 days. Yet another instant of figment of imagination.
-You have serious language problem and the shop keepers nearby don't speak English. It is difficult to BELIEVE and to DIGEST you had any interaction at all with them let alone the FALSE imaginary communication you have described in brackets. Makes us laugh actually.
-The remotes for Cable TV, Set top box and AC are all in perfectly working condition. The problem was your ignorance of knowledge to operate them which I educated you on day 1 and thereafter you never raised this point for the rest of the stay as you were daily using the remotes.
NEXT GUESTS IN THE SAME ROOM:
Our immediate and next guests in the same room for same price and for same duration of stay are Nichola and Michel. Lets hear what they have to say. WATCH THIS SPACE.
We so loved our stay in Mumbai. Raj showed us the great and safe eating areas in Santacruz which we ate at every night. The Airbnb accommodation is close to everything you need. We had the best Indian cooked breakfasts each morning which we will miss. I look forward to coming back and staying again. Thank you
We were given a phone to use in emergency on arrival which was much appreciated. The breakfasts where very good and different each day and delivered warmly by mrs Patel. We felt the room and bathroom were of a poor standard for the cost and we have moved to a hotel that is a little more expensive but very quiet, luxurious and pleasant in comparison . We were surprised at how noisy the planes were and at times were on average every 2 mins. So loud you had to cease talking while they passed over.
The most difficult aspect was mr Patels attitude. It seems he has become jaded with people staying at his B&B and at best barely tolerates the intrusion.
We find it difficult to write such an apparently negative review and do not do so with any ill will towards our hosts.
Linda & Mike:
You booked for 3-days and had a full stay of 3-days! With due respect, if the things you have mentioned were REALLY a cause of so much annoyance that they are made out to be, you would have moved to a hotel before completing your stay as you admitted to be now staying in an expensive HOTEL -which would imply that budget is no problem. Please understand that people, in thousands (including children) live in this area since decades and the planes have also been flying since that time. Perhaps you have not liked some violations that were politely pointed out to you during your stay here, like using portable bucket heater (which shut down the lights of entire house), hanging inner wear outside door (whose sight was a public nuisance), hanging heavy hangers on Glass panels (which could have broken the glass louvers), etc. You also made it quite evident that did not like when you were asked to pay for the actual phone usage consumed by you. Initially you refused but only when Mr.Mike informed you paid. I very much like to meet and mix with all guests from world over and that is one of the reasons I am normally present at home FULL TIME.
- Great people
- Great brakfast
- Eccellent hospitality and readines to help
- Strategic location close to the train station (here you can get tuc tucs!)
- They even gave me a local phone that I could use
- Close to the airport, so that is an andvantage. For the disadvantage of the noise just bring earplugs and you'll be fine.
- very good deal quality price
Conclusion: I would come back :)

Perhaps, the one thing that is going to take you by surprise and also deeply touch you on your India tour is the warm hospitality of Indians. A ready smile on the face, always willing to go out of the way to help somebody, exuding genuine happiness upon meeting a person - these are some of the common traits you will find in maximum Indians. The Sanskrit adage, "Atithi Devo Bhava", meaning the guest is truly your god dictates the respect granted to guests in India. So it's understandable why the tourists visiting India want to come back again & again.
