Studio apartment on flower farm

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Mary Hall Rd, Stonington, CT 06379, United States

The Space

This studio apartment, build in a former barn, is airy and comfortable. High windows let in morning light. The apartment overlooks beds of flowers ready to harvest for weddings, parties and Farmers Markets.

A Murphy bed folds into an alcove during the day. A small kitchen lets you prepare breakfast or a picnic lunch to take on an outing. Shall it be a beach walk today? Or a visit to one of the local Farmers Markets? Perhaps a stroll in a classic antique town before lunch at a seaside restaurant.

Wifi keeps you in touch with friends.

It's always busy here with a long list of garden chores to do ... but I'm never too busy to answer questions or make suggestions about where to find a local adventure.

This studio apartment is available from mid-May through mid-October. Come and enjoy! You'll be 10 minutes from Saltwater Farm Vineyards; 15 minutes from Stonington Borough; 30 minutes from Watch Hill, RI.

It's the perfect garden retreat away from hectic city life. Bring your camera or painting supplies. The visual opportunities are endless.

Some cautions about a weekend in the country. Water is supplied from a well so water pressure is country style, not city style. The studio is available only seasonally. Early and late season visitors may miss central heating. (I do supply a space heater.) Hot water is abundant ... if I remember to turn up the heat setting after a long winter! I apologized to recent guests for this deficiency. Hot showers are now available.

  • This is a very clean, quiet and peaceful apartment near beaches and Mystic. I would recommend this place to others.

  • The weekend at Peg's studio was wonderful. It is situated in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to many attractions close by. It was very comfortable and neat. We were welcomed with homegrown tomatoes from her garden in the kitchenette area and an invitation to walk into her flower farm and help ourselves to the abundance of cherry tomatoes. She made some great recommendations for local restaurants and nearby beaches in WatchHill RI. We saw her at the farmers' market in Stonington on Saturday selling her flowers, bestowed with a lovely bouquet at the studio upon our return that evening. She was gracious and generous with her hospitality. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

  • We have just returned home from our weekend in Mystic/Stonington. Our stay at Peg's studio was great. The studio had everything we needed. It was nicely decorated and very clean. Peg was there to greet us and answer any questions. The view from the sliding doors was of Peg's gardens and yard..lovely. It was very quiet....would definitely stay there again.

  • The owner surprised us with her refusal to let our 8 year old daughter's best friend stay in the apartment with us. Good thing we had friends in town otherwise our daughter's vacation would've been ruined. This senseless inflexibility was enough to sour our opinion of this rental.

Aside from this, the space is good value.
Pros: ceiling fan, comfortable bed, quiet neighborhood, clean.
Cons: shower is a trickle and kitchen is not stocked- not even salt & pepper.

  • The cottage is surrounded by green and has a perfect view of the flower garden. The area was quiet and easy to navigate. We visited a beautiful beach in nearby Rhode Island and had a few nice meals in local restaurants, recommended by Peg.

As a host, Peg was as pleasant and welcoming as could be. The studio was clean, comfortable, and supplied with enough pots/pans and utensils to cook a simple meal. I went into the trip looking to simply escape NYC for the weekend, but feel I gained something more than that.

  • We had a great visit. Peg's studio was perfect for us! Although we met Peg only check-in day , she was great! Our weekend jaunt was beyond perfect. We hope to be back again when season is in full bloom to enjoy Peg's gardening talents!

  • If you like to have peace and quiet to rest after a travel filled day this is the place. We arrived and found a delightfully clean, bright and peace filled space. Now the five stars is not like the 'Four Seasons.' Rather a unique studio offering a queen bed, couch, desk, table and chairs with galley style kitchen leading to a private bath all contained in a delightful separate old building. It was a sweet slice of heaven. Memories were made in the calm comfortable cozy WIFI access vaulted ceiling green room.
This gem of a spot is only minutes from the river, the town, the beach, easy to locate and very safe. We had a blast in the area for five nights. It was the perfect retreat to arrive back to and rest up for the next days adventure.
We took a walk around the block, 3.6 miles, in darkness with a flash light. We drove around the block in the morning to stock up at a local vegetable stand under a tree. We purchased TOO much of the freshest garden harvest and it was self serve leave your money in the box!
We ate at the local LOBSTER, fresh seafood every meal, and it may have been over indulgence. Shopped in town and went back to rest on this most quaint of private spaces.
Peg our hostess was informative and available "only" when we needed her. It was like having the entire property to ourselves. Peg was a wealth of information on not only the area but on food and gardening and plants. When we return to western CT we will make this a return lodging. It is not often that when traveling you really feel truly comfortable and safe. I also felt nurtured by the surroundings. The property was simply a picture of New England.

  • I am a little late in writing this review. My daughter, fiance, and I stayed in Mid August for a wedding. I grew up in town and was thrilled to be right in the midst of my old stomping grounds. Peg warm and welcoming. The cottage is cozy and quiet, and the property is wonderful. If I was returning to town by myself or with just one other guest I would be glad to stay again the cottage was just a little small for 3 people. But for anyone looking for a nice relaxing private get a way this is your place.

In the summer, I grow flowers in a lovely coastal town in Connecticut. My clients are brides who want to support local agriculture ... and buyers at my local Farmers Market. In the winter, I write. My latest book, An Acre Plus: Invitation to a Growing Life, came out in 2010. France is my favorite travel destination.
