About this listing

Our 130-yr old semi-detached home located in historic, downtown Kingston sleeps 4. Original hardwood flooring, fully stocked kitchen, deck & garden patio, fresh linens, WiFi and parking. Steps to waterfront, City Park, Farmers Market and restaurants.

The space

This large brick semi-detached house is a prominent and important building in the heritage district of downtown Kingston. The space consists of a large dining room, living room (with full-sized pull-out sofa bed), fully-stocked kitchen, one bathroom and one bedroom (with Queen-sized bed) which opens onto the backyard deck overlooking the patio and garden.

The building was erected no later than 1878, as it appears with occupants in the 1879 street directory of Kingston. It's first known occupants were a jeweller named John Smith and Mrs. Francis Lawson. Reverend George Ferguson bought the property in 1913, and is still listed as a resident in the 1923 directory.

Some historically notable features of the building's exterior include the tall stone foundation, 2-storey bay windows and fluted columns flanking each tier featuring Corinthian capitals. Gable ends above the towers' flat roofs feature scrolling brackets which support heavy wood hoods over the windows. A sunburst design is nestled under the apex of each garble's bargeboards. The bargeboards have a series of rectangular and square recessed wood panels. Sunbursts are also found on the tympanums of each of the dormer on the roof of each inner bay.

Guest access

You will have access to the entire space - backyard, deck, bathroom, living room and bedroom. Nothing will be shared. You will also have access to our laundry machine and all kitchen amenities and are welcome to anything in the fridge. There will be cereal, milk, coffee and tea (and usually other things like yogurt and juice) in the kitchen.

Interaction with guests

We will greet you and introduce you to the apartment, the neighbourhood and Kingston. After that the apartment is all yours, though we do live upstairs if you need anything!

Other things to note

We provide you with guide books, pamphlets, etc. to get to know the area and what there is to do. Please let us know if you will need the 2nd bed (which is a pull out couch) and we will have it setup. If you need access before or after our normal checkin/checkout times let us know and we will try to arrange it.

We were very pleased with our stay. The location could not be better. Central, but quiet. This heritage apartment was spacious and very well equipped. Alexander was a great host - helpful and friendly. We would stay here again.

My husband David and I stayed for a month with our baby who is just learning to crawl, and the place had great reviews. The location is wonderful, the structure of the apartment with its high ceilings is great, and Alex was very kind and accessible. I want to be more generous with my review, but I was so disappointed by how cluttered and dirty the apartment was. When we arrived, I was overwhelmed by how much stuff there was everywhere. Though I know the bathrooms and surfaces had been cleaned, the furniture was old and musty. I never felt comfortable there, and it was definitely not clean enough for children to play in. The carpets were full of dust, there were cobwebs on the furniture, there was just STUFF everywhere, and when we turned on the ceiling fan, dust balls came raining down into the living room. We had no other Kingston options, so I spent one full day cleaning the place to make it more fit for our family, and Alex even brought me boxes so I could take out some of the clutter (some of which was covered in dirt and cobwebs) from the rooms. We ended up buying our own comforter because the one on the bed was dirty. The structure is beautiful, but I wish that the clutter had been emptied and the place had been deep cleaned, and I would not come there with my children again.

The apartment is in a great location, very walkable to downtown and the main streets. The apartment is spacious and has lots of natural light. The neighbourhood was quiet and the bed was comfortable.

We stayed for a long weekend in the first floor apartment, which included a dining room, large living room/sitting area, kitchen, bedroom and deck. It was on a lovely side street with beautiful old homes and within sight of downtown Kingston and the city park. Alexander was quick to communicate and respond to any questions that we had. It is an ideal spot for a couple's romantic get-a-way.
