About this listing
An Elegant Environmentally Benevolent Studio/Casita.
Vigilante en Español means many things - watchful, keeper, guardian, observant, attentive to details. And there are many details to observe in this unique studio guest house that is only 4 1/2 easy blocks from the Parroquia, the center of San Miguel. Along the way you can stroll through Parque Juarez and pause to enjoy the beautiful colonial architecture. Walking 10 minutes the other direction will lead you to fine dining, world class musicians, the Saturday Organic Farmer's Market and other small tiendas (stores) for groceries .
Lovely light streams through the thoughtfully appointed ground level Casita/studio apartment with private entrance. A set of French doors open onto your private patio leading to the surrounding garden/courtyard. It is furnished with a Very Comfortable Queen size bed, full closet and set of four built in drawers, a cozy sitting area with a fireplace (gas logs) and desk area, beautiful bathroom and a well equipped full kitchen with a counter and stool area for eating.
Always available: purified water; FREE WiFi, a limited amount of free local calls and unlimited long distance to the States.

I am happy to help you arrange for tours of the area, massages, available workshops, reservations for dining, show you where to hail a taxi (they are prolific and inexpensive);
Provide ideas about where to find work of local artisans and local attractions/festivals;
Bus/public transportation easily available - buses run continuously on Ancha de San Antonio to main destinations and transfer points - for about 5 pesos - see map for Ancha de San Antonio/Salida de Celaya. (Seems like a taxi is always driving by the house. They run about 30 pesos in town.)
Housekeeping arrangements vary depending on length of stay - see "extra details" /"house rules" for more info.
Guest Room in my home… Sometimes I make the guest room in my home available for short stays (no more than 5 nights). For example if there are 3 people coming in your party and two are staying in one of the casitas (there is only room for 2 in the casita), and they would like the third friend to stay on the same property. My home is on the same property with a small patio between the two buildings. As mentioned before, this is ONLY for short stays (5 or less nights) and as a convenience to you. The guests will have limited use of my kitchen and will need to clean up after themselves if they use dishes, etc. Please check it's availability, photos and other info by clicking on my photo, then click on photo again and "view full profile". Scroll down and you will see my other listings. The listing for this room should be there - it is named English Country Guest Room.
The Casita's space is basically all in one big room - like a studio apartment. When I took the photos of the Casita (not the Guest Room), I stood in one spot and turned around to take the photos of the kitchen, desk area, sitting area with fireplace, and the bed.
My home is on the back half of the property so I am usually there for anything that comes up (or I have a house sitter if I am not here). There is a garden that needs work so once a week or so there is a gardener on the property. But your space is private and your privacy will be respected.
Generally this casita is available for stays of no longer than 45 nights but please inquire about this and the cost.
Guests have access to the main garden/courtyard and the portico in front of my house. They also have their own private patio.
Guests have access to a phone for local calls and limited calls to the U.S. on this land line. But you are welcome to use my Magic Jack line that "lives" on the porch.
Here is what I love about my neighborhood. Everything.
Getting here. From Leon/BJX the very best way is to check out the shuttle called Bajiogo. They have a number you can call from the states and you can also use a credit card to book a reservation on line. They also have a shuttle to and from Queretaro and Mexico City. When you book I will send you a guest guide with all this information and how to get around town. It is a walking city and taxis are plentiful and not very expensive.
smoking off premises only
sorry no pets
a "guest guide" will be sent before arrival and again provided upon arrival for the "how to's and what's and where's and when's and why's.
Weekly and monthly prices may vary depending on season. E.G May, June, Dec. Jan. Feb.
*The cleaning fee listed is for a month's stay so it will need to be altered if your stay is for less than a month. (cleaning fee per week is $57 - this includes taxes). If you are staying for longer than 2 weeks we can negotiate if you want to do your own house keeping.
Provided by me are the first 4 rolls of toilet paper.
Since this is Mexico, sometimes appliances do not work the way they do in other places (eg the U. S). For example -the knob on for the oven -PLEASE read instructions.
Please let me know Immediately if you have no hot water (usually it is the pilot light that has, for some mysterious reason, gone out).
PLEASE remember to turn off the lights when leaving the room(s).
And if you are using the fireplace PLEASE remember to turn it off COMPLETELY (the black knob clockwise and the yellow lever behind the logs to the right - at right angles to the gas pipe) when you leave the room AND when not necessary.
Barbara was very hospitable and the property was beautiful. Listing was accurate. When we arrived she greeted us with fresh bananas and a warm smile. Barbara is very friendly and accommodating. She put together a guest book with lots of helpful hints of places to go and how to get around. The center of town was a quick walk away and there were small stores near by to buy fresh veggies and other groceries. We loved staying here and would strongly recommended.
Barbara is a very gracious hostess and offers an awesome BnB! The "casita" (little house) is separate from the main house. It is much more than expected: full kitchen, full bed, french doors, sitting area, beautiful bathroom (no tub) and excellently decorated. A sitting area outside provides an excellent opportunity to appreciate Barbara's garden (as shown in the picture).
Safety is a priority. Barbara's home is enclosed behind high walls (very typical of all houses in SMA) and is located within easy walking distance to the center of town. Neighborhood is very safe. We felt very comfortable walking late at night.
This was our first B&B experience ever. Barbara has set the bar high! We had an excellent experience and should we decide to visit SMA again I will not seek out a different BnB….we will be in Barbara's casita.
My husband and I with our six month old son had a wonderful week with Barbara. The casita is just beautiful (the shower is just fantastic and very good bed) and every little detail is taken care of. The garden is serine...
We think this is the best location in town. Not in the buzz of the central but only ten min away.
It's just a beautiful place!!
My husband I recently stayed at El Jardin del Ciervo Vigilante and without hesitation would stay here again. Barbara was a great host. She welcomed us with a smile and a small offering of goodies to carry us through our first day in SMA. Her casita is welcoming and beautifully decorated with a small patio off of the double doors. The garden is serene and lush, beckoning you to sit and enjoy the peace and tranquility. The casita is located in a quiet street not to far from Parque Juarez and a short 10 minute walk to the center of town. The casita was a gentle reprieve from the hustle and bustle of our daily outings to downtown San Miguel. We left with a strong desire to return and when we do return we will be staying at El Jardin del Ciervo Vigilante!!
This is our fourth time in San Miguel. We have stayed at a lot of different places both bnb and hotels in various locations. We stayed with Barbara for a week this time and had a wonderful stay. We love the location near Parque Juarez and the Rosewood. So we have an option to either go downtown or enjoy peace in Barbara's beautiful garden and still have easy access to goid restaurants, local tacos and grocery/drug stores. Besides the wonderful decor and garden, we appreciated the fully equipped kitchen and being able to open windows for ventilation without being blasted by noise and exhaust if we were to stay in close to downtown. Barbara is also a super host and gave us a ride to La Gruta. Highly recommended!
This was my first experience with Airbnb and it exceeded every expectation. The apartment was so charming and very comfortable, well equipped with everything I needed. The little extras provided were much appreciated: maps, recommendations, a hat, shopping bag, and especially the very thoughtful grocery items for a late Saturday arrival. Barbara is a very gracious and welcoming host; it was a pleasure to get to know her. And the gardens are so beautiful and peaceful. What a wonderful place! I stayed a month and was sad to leave.
This casita is a hidden (from the street) oasis of tranquility, peace and beauty. Upon arrival we were stunned by the exquisite garden - lush with ferns, palms, flowering plants, murals and other art work.. Inside the casita, we felt nurtured by the quiet comfort of the subtle color palette, and the attention to detail in terms of our needs - physical (a comfortable bed, wonderful shower, complete kitchen and lovely snacks and beverages) and emotional needs too were met (pleasing art such as sculptures, paintings, smooth stones, a mobile and tiny boxes) and interesting books and movies were available, as was a quiet reflective environment in which to enjoy them. We were totally captivated by it all! The only thing missing was Barbara who was away at the time we were there.
