An Elegant Environmentally Benevolent Studio/Casita.
Vigilante en Español means many things - watchful, keeper, guardian, observant, attentive to details. And there are many details to observe in this unique guest house that is only 4 1/2 easy blocks from the Parroquia, the center of San Miguel. Along the way you can stroll through Parque Juarez and pause to enjoy the beautiful colonial architecture. Walking 10 minutes the other direction will lead you to fine dining, world class musicians, the Saturday Organic Farmer's Market and other small tiendas (stores) for groceries .
Lovely light streams through the thoughtfully appointed ground level Casita/studio apartment with private entrance. A set of French doors open onto your private patio leading to the surrounding garden/courtyard. It is furnished with a Very Comfortable Queen size bed, full closet and set of four built in drawers, a cozy sitting area with a fireplace (gas logs) and desk area, beautiful bathroom and a well equipped full kitchen with a counter and stool area for eating.
Always available: purified water; FREE WiFi, a limited amount of free local calls and unlimited long distance to the States.
Not available - cable TV…. Lots of folks find it refreshing and freeing not to be inundated. If you find it is something you cannot manage, there is a cable connection but you would need to make arrangements with the cable company when you arrive. It could take up to a week - 10 days and is quite expensive.
Other amenities include:
A welcome basket of fresh fruits, cheese and crackers;
Use of ecologically sensitive cleaning products;
I am happy to help you arrange for tours of the area, massages, available workshops, reservations for dining, show you where to hail a taxi (they are prolific and inexpensive);
Provide ideas about where to find work of local artisans and local attractions/festivals;
Bus/public transportation easily available - buses run continuously on Ancha de San Antonio to main destinations and transfer points - for about 5 pesos - see map for Ancha de San Antonio/Salida de Celaya. (Seems like a taxi is always driving by the house. They run about 30 pesos in town.)
Housekeeping arrangements vary depending on length of stay
My home is on the back half of the property so I am usually there for anything that comes up (or have a house sitter if I am not). There is a garden that needs work so once a week or so there is a gardener on the property. But your space is private and your privacy will be respected.
Generally the casitas are available for stays of no longer than 2 months but please inquire about this and the cost.

The location is superb and Barbara is a lovely and gracious hostess. The only complaint I have about this property would be the lack of cable TV. Otherwise, it is fine
Barbara's place is beautiful and in addition she is the best San Miguel tour guide - so impressed with her help with transport and thorough guide to San Miguel! The space is beautifully furnished and provides everything you could possibly need for a pleasant stay in an excellent location.
This was truly the most relaxing vacation we have had in some time. The location was excellent - easy walking distance to the center of the city. Our hostess, Sam, was so generous with her ideas and hospitality - and Joey, the wonderful Italian water dog, made our stay even better! When we return to San Miguel, we will certainly come back to this location!
An excellent small studio apartment on a ground floor courtyard - very quiet. Located within easy walking distance to Benito Juarez park, very lovely, and the Jardin at the center of town. There was construction going on at the house during our stay, limiting use of the garden, so check with Barbara to make sure that it is finished.
Otherwise highly recommended - Barbara is a fine host and gave us some excellent local recommendations.
Barbara is a lovely hostess and has a wonderful cassita (or two) for anyone lucky enough to book it. The location could not be better and Barbara goes out of her way to assure her guests enjoy their visit. I'm so glad I'm going back in February, 2014.
This is the ‘room of ones own’ that everyone dreams of - a room of light, air, beauty and peace. My wish would be to replicate this studio at my own house. I would only go out to gather food, books and art supplies. It is the perfect space in which to read, write, paint, sleep and dream in.
Barbara is just the person that you have always wanted in a host - lovely, kind, generous and in love with the city in which she lives. Her artistic aesthetic is seen everywhere on the property. Her home is her art and I feel so fortunate that she is willing to share it with those of us who come to San Miguel. I felt both protected and independent during my perfect two-week stay.
I will most certainly return to Jardin Ciervo Vililante on my next visit to San Miguel de Allende and highly recommend it to newcomers and return visitors alike.
This apartment was immaculate and beautifully decorated, and a very convenient walk to the center of town and a large park. The garden offers a lovely refuge. Barbara was very accommodating, friendly, and helpful. A beautiful, private spot in a lovely town.
My friend and I stayed with Barbara this past April. Barbara's
place was cozy and comfortable and beautifully decorated. It was
centrally located and walking distance to the center of town. Barbara was very helpful with things to do, places to visit and good
restaurants suggestions.I would highly recommend staying with her.

I stayed in the downstairs casita during the month of Feburary 2013. It is a newer house (2+ years old) that incorporates the advantages of newer construction with traditional furnishings/decorations. The result is a very pleasant combination of function and aesthetics. Such items as a water filtration system, gas log fireplace, good water pressure, and an adequate supply of hot water were appreciated. A photovoltaic roof system generates all the electricity utilized during daylight hours. This is both a responsible environmental action and a logical economic decision, given that San Miguel gets an average of 320 days of sunshine annually.
Finally, the courtyard is an extremely pleasing place to spend some time. The plantings, fountain/moving stream, and seating areas create an overall environment that is exceptional. I started and ended every day there.
This is a very beautiful, sweet little place. It feels like a little hideaway. i stayed here a month and enjoyed the surrounding area very much. It is ideal for one person.
The little kitchen was perfect for me to cook in which saved me money.
Barbara is very helpful and ready to answer any questions or give recommendations on places to visit, restaurants etc.
