About this listing
Stay in a typical British village and enjoy the countryside with London only a 30 minutes train ride away. Within 10minutes from my home you are in the High Street, where there are pubs and supermarkets, and within 12minutes you get to train station
One charming double bedroom is on offer in modern shared house (besides myself, there are currently three male lodgers living in the house, so kitchen and bathroom are shared areas). The accommodation is East of London, Ingatestone is a beautiful English village in Essex, with lots of character, country pubs and deer forests reached by foot. My house is both close to the High Street and train station, reaching central London Liverpool Street Station in 28 minutes and London Stratford in under 20 minutes. The nearest London Underground connection is London Stratford, which takes 20 minutes to get to by overland train.
The bedroom is on the first floor of the house and comes with a shared bathroom. The bathroom is fitted with furniture by the French designer Philip Starck and is across the hallway.
All guests are welcome to enjoy the garden, which offers a tranquil retreat from the hectic pace of London. There are barbeque facilities in the garden, to enjoy both meat and vegetarian grilled food. Its a south-facing garden, which is great to relax in, weather permitting.
Wifi is available.
If you want to book for more than 2 people, please message me to see if I have a second room free.
I have used Air B and B throughout my travels and will be happy to advise on travel tips for the local area or London.
Many thanks for your interest.
Access to shared bathroom (currently shared with two male lodgers and myself)
Access to shared kitchen
Interaction with Guests
I am always happy to provide advice and help about visiting London or the local area. Just ask me. Also, if there is anything not to your satisfaction, please raise this straight away with myself.
Ingatestone is a lovely British village set in the Essex countryside but close enough to reach London in about 30 minutes.
Ingatestone has a number of independent shops, including an antique shop, women clothing, gift shops and an award winning bakery. Close by is Ingatestone Hall, which dates from the 15th century and is home to the current Lord Petre family. The Hall retains its original Tudor style and can be visited by prior appointment. In the summer, there are regular Jazz evenings in the splendid gardens of Ingatestone Hall, a ten minutes walk from my house.
From Ingatestone there are direct trains into London - a travelcard costs £14.50 with a discount card or just around £11 at the weekend and includes all bus, underground and DLR for all London Zones. Please note that travelcards are only available after the rush hour, getting you into London around 10.30am. Travelcards before the rush hour cost around £25, or a single ticket to London Liverpool Street station costs £12.60. If you want to head away from London, Chelmsford is one stop away and cost about £5 return or you can directly head to Ipswich and other places on the South East coast. Norwich can also easily be reached by train from my house.
The airport London Stanstead is 35 minutes by car away; London Southend is about 30 minutes away by train, and is a convenient airport to travel to and from by train.
Please note that other airports of London, Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton are about 90 minutes drive away from my house and will take about 2 hours to get to from mine by public transport.
If you come by car, there is free parking in front of the house.
If you travel by push bikes, these can either be safely stored inside the house or in the bike shed.
Other Things to Note
I have a small dog called 'Deano' living in the house and two cats called 'Barbie' and 'Ken'. Whilst care is taken to keep the house tidy, due to the animals in the house, you might come across their mess. If you do not want to have any dog hair in your room or have the cats in your room, please keep your bedroom door closed.
Please smoke outside, ashtrays are provided in the garden.
Please also take care of the recycling system in the house, there are different marked rubbish bins in the kitchen and utility room and each one is clearly marked for what rubbish they are.
If there is anything not to your satisfaction, please raise your concerns straight away with me. Thank you.
Martina house is really nice and comfortable. Martina is a really nice person. She always helped me with my travel plan and care if I have enough foods to eat. Definitely recommended to live here!
Martina is a great host, she made me feel very welcome as did her other house guests. It is a comfortable place to stay and is great for getting about. I was commuting to Grays that week and it was easy access to the motorway. Thanks for a great stay ☺
Martina made me feel very welcome and the house was very comfortable. She was happy to go out of her way to help with any queries and overall it was a very enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend Martina as a host.
I enjoyed very much my stay. The house is lovely and facilities excellent. I was made to feel very welcome and made friends with the pets, the dog I especially liked and was great fun. There were 3 teachers staying and they were very pleasant. Martina is a very interesting, high calibre person. The local pub was great.
Clean neat and tidy room which is complete with flatscreen TV (inc built in freeview), desk, wardrobe and lock on the door etc.
Incredibly comfortable bed giving me some of the best nights sleeps I have ever had during a time of which it was much needed.
Martina was very friendly and could not have been more welcoming, helpful or accommodating.
If I am ever that way again I know exactly where I will be staying!

About the Host, Martina
Having traveled a lot through Europe, America and Asia, I love to host other travelers and make their stay as comfortable as possible. My passion is making hats, which I sell through my website and I also lend hat blocks to other milliners. I moved to the UK from Germany over 25 years ago and enjoy London's art, fashion and culture life. I have lived and worked in Melbourne, Australia, in Brussels, Belgium, where I worked for the European Parliament and currently work in central London. Having studied politics in the UK, my career has been focused on political lobbying.
I have two grown up daughters, my oldest lives in Sydney, Australia, and my youngest lives in central London. My son, who is 18, still lives with me. He is currently studying Graphic Design. We love to live in a creative household, so some of the graffiti art you see on the walls of my property, has been installed by my son.
I love London and can give you lots of advice about where to go, shop and what to do. I love films and galleries, so happy to point you to some of the amazing galleries in London.
I also use airbnb for my own travel, its a great way to meet other hosts.
