The Space

Custom built holiday home perched on Paku Hill with incomparable views of the Pacific Ocean, coastline and offshore islands. Spacious, protected deck to watch moonrises and sunsets. Trail from the house leads to long, sandy Ocean Beach - ideal for swimmining, snorkling along the reef, surfing when the conditions are right, an early morning jog and basking in the sun. Enjoy a hot outside shower (email hidden) view. Walk along the estuary one kilometer to the town of Tairua with shops and services. Or closer to the warf and ferry, dive shop, charter fishing and our favorite restaurant, "Old Mill." House is open and airy with local wood floors, cabinets and detailing, open beam ceilings, modern kitchen, carpeted bedrooms, a fireplace for chill nights, & a deck large enough to spend most your time. The master suite takes the entire upstairs wih views all around. Very quiet, romantic & peaceful setting. Tairua, on the Coromandel Peninsula has a Maritime climate with year round activities. Excellent fishing and diving and we enjoy our own catches of crayfish (lobster) and puau (abalone) and snapper often. Kayak in the estuary or in the sea to nearby Motuhoa Island. Most days we find we do not need nor want to drive anywhere. Besides all the ocean activities there are local walks, biking or take the 10 minute ferry ride to Pauanui. There are easy drives to a multitude of unique & beautiful beaches and to a host of other activities such as exploring the old goldmines in the Broken Hills, wine tasting in Mercury Bay, thermal bathing at low tide at Hot Water Beach or a visit to the giant Kauri trees. Our property manager, Keryn, lives around the corner and has a fabulous Hawaiian massage (email hidden).

  • If you're searching for a place to stay you can stop your search need to keep looking. Laurel is absolutely amazing and so is her place...and of course the breakfast. You'll feel so comfortable and welcomed and experiencing Kauai from the perspective of staying at a private residence vs a hotel or resort tops it all. You'll feel like a local. The location in Anahola is perfectly situated between Kapa'a and Hanalei. The place you stay above the garage is private and comfortable. The shower is incredible too. Laurel provides beach towels and bags, there is a mini fridge in your living area, (email hidden) to workout in the garage...I could go on and on about how wonderful this experience was (we were there for our honeymoon) but just book the place and find out for yourself. Don't forget to ask Laurel what she did to celebrate her 55th birthday either. Great story!

  • Laurel and Rob were absolutely amazing hosts. As soon as we met them, we knew that it was going to be a special home for our Kauai vacation. Laurel asked about our dietary preferences before arriving and prepared delicious meals every day. The loft itself was very spacious and comfortable with amazing views of the blue ocean on one side and mountain range on the other. Overall, we had an amazing time at their loft and can highly recommend it to anyone looking (email hidden), gorgeous views and incredible hospitality.

  • My husband and I spent our honeymoon, 10 days during the month of March, at Laurel and Rob's place and loved every minute. We read all the other reviews prior to booking our stay, and they are all spot on. The one thing I have to reiterate is that you will be hard pressed to find such kind and generous hosts! It was a pleasure meeting everyone, and they gave us great local tips on trails/beaches etc.

While Laurel and Rob were out of town during the first few days of our stay, Katie and Keoni took care of us, and Katie's breakfasts were fantastic. We also got a taste of Rob and Laurel's cooking once they got back in town, and regardless of the cook, you cannot beat these homemade breakfasts. Fresh eggs from the chickens, healthy and delicious variety of fresh fruits/smoothies from the orchard were always included...

We were very comfortable in the loft with the windows and island breeze, even without A/C. Loved the house, outdoor shower, and property. It really does feel like paradise. It was a perfect, relaxing stay and great honeymoon. Thank you to the Brier family for welcoming us and taking care of us!

  • We stayed five nights to explore the whole island of Kauai. The place is outstanding. You'll find yourself on a huge estate with a nice garden and views on the sea and mountains. Our room and the house in general were lovely and clean. Laurel is a charming and social person. Her breakfast was delicious, and she easily fulfilled every wish we had. You cannot go wrong with Laurel's place. We recommend and would return without hesitation.

  • We just stayed at Laurel and Rob's place and loved it! Their hospitality was incredible, and the place itself was beautiful-clean, spacious, great outdoor shower, and located on a beautiful plot of land in a lovely neighborhood just a few minutes walk from a great neighborhood beach, "Aliomanu Beach". Laurel and Rob are very helpful, outgoing, interesting and fun people, and we loved their company. We hope to (email hidden) again the next time we visit Kauai and would recommend their place to anyone looking (email hidden) to retreat to at the end of the day.

  • Laurel and Rob operate one of the finest B&Bs we've ever visited. Their "loft over a garage" is actually over a four car garage so it is spacious, very spacious, beautifully appointed and easily sleeps five although we were only two. They serve up a sumptuous breakfast in their beautiful kitchen and dining room, a great starter for the day.

The outdoor shower is charming, you get used to it quickly.

Their house sits on several acres overlooking the not-too-distant sea. They planted many fruit trees whose daily harvest shows up in the wonderful fruit juice served up each morning. It's truly an extraordinary home amidst serene surroundings. It's quiet, very quiet and wonderful for sleeping. You can easily walk to a secluded beach which we did several times.

We arrived the afternoon of the Superbowl and were quickly invited to join the party. There must have been 25 friends and neighbors, all strangers to us but we were made to feel welcome. A very fine beginning to our week's stay.

This is one of the greatest values in the islands: grab it while you can.

  • Laurel's place is amazing and she (email hidden)e communicated through the whole process and gave suggestions of things to do in the area. Their property is beautiful and is in a perfect location on the NE shore of Kauai. The loft was large enough and our hosts were extremely flexible with scheduling our breakfast. We had an excursion planned and we found coffee and breakfast made at 530am. The outdoor shower was also unique. I will definitely be back!!

It was also amazing to see whales while having breakfast.

  • Laurel and Rob are so welcoming. They were full of great information and truly enjoyed sharing it.

Their home is beautiful! Their guest loft was a delight to stay in. Very clean, roomy, and had great views of the ocean and mountains.

Laurel's breakfasts were hardy and delicious! Perfect for fueling an activity filled day.

    I highly recommend staying here.

  • We absolutely loved our stay with Laurel and Rob. We were there in early December. The apartment itself is large and clean with lots of great books and movies. The outdoor shower is wonderful. The area they live in is super quiet and peaceful. And the breakfasts are AMAZING. They have lots of fruit trees on their extensive property, and fresh fruit of some sort was always incorporated into the breakfast, along with fresh eggs from the chickens. Laurel and Rob are super open and friendly, with lots of great advice for where to go for what activity, and where the weather will be best on any given day. There is a quite nice beach that is just about a 10-15 min walk away.

  • Boyfriend and I had a wonderful time! Laurel and Rob were very accommodating and made us feel right at home. Fresh breakfast every morning was excellent, and they had great recommendations for what to do and see. Washing machine is available for use during most of the week, which was really helpful after long hikes or rainy days. There's a mini-fridge for any leftover food or grocery runs. They have a very awesome cat, too, that hangs out outside. It's very sweet.

It's a great part of the island to stay on. You're about 15-20 minutes from many things, including the Wailua River, Princeville, Safeway, Common Grounds Cafe (yum)...Poipu and Waimea Canyon are a bit farther away, but totally manageable. It's also less rainy than other parts of the island - their microclimate is drier than neighboring parts of the East Shore, and definitely drier than Princeville or Hanalei Bay - which is nice.

Laurel and Rob were super fast to resolve the only small snag we encountered: a couple rogue mosquitos intent on eating us at night (a rarity for the house, but with still winds and lots of humidity, not terribly surprising). As soon as they learned of the situation, they (email hidden) for us, which made our remaining nights really comfortable. We slept like logs.

I recommend this if you're looking for a homey, local experience with really great hosts, great food, and great views!!!

We would definitely stay here again!

(Disclaimer: Remember that you're on a tropical island, so if the season is right - ie if the winds are still for a long time, and there's a lot of moisture - you may see a small insect or two in the shower/bathroom area (nothing poisonous or big). I'm pretty bug-sensitive and didn't think it was a big deal at all - but if you really can't stand the sight of any bugs whatsoever, an air conditioned hotel room may be a better setup for you. You may also wake up to roosters crowing.)
