The Space

If there are 3 or 4 in your party, please read the last paragraph carefully, before proceeding!

Whether you are visiting the area for business, a vacation, a wedding or a graduation, please consider making this your "home away from home" for a few days.

What a great time of year to come for a visit! The flowers will soon be in full bloom. If you time it right, your gourmet breakfast may include something freshly picked from the garden. This location offers the perfect combination of suburban quiet and extreme convenience. We are in Linthicum, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. We are just 10 minutes from BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport and only 15 minutes from Downtown Baltimore City--including both stadiums and the Convention Center. We are also only 15 minutes away from the NEW Maryland Live Casino. We are within walking distance from the light rail, which not only connects you to BWI Airport, but can also get you into the city. **If you plan to walk here from the light rail, PLEASE ASK ME ABOUT THE SHORT CUT! If you are driving, you can easily access I-95 and all of the other major highways in the area.

We are offering our guestroom, which has a comfy queen sized bed, flat-screen tv (equipped with cable), a dvd/ vcr combo (with a collection of video tapes), a small closet and a clock radio. You will be sharing a full bathroom on the second floor. Fresh linens, will of course be provided. You will have access to a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, living room and half bath on the first floor. You'll have free wi-fi and if you need a computer, just ask. Ditto for laundry facilities.

You'll be sharing the house with 50-something couple and 2 cats. The cats are friendly, but are kept out of your room--unless you let them in ;-) You don't have to be a cat lover; but if you are allergic or afraid of them or mind an occasional late night / early morning meow outside your bedroom door, then this won't be a good fit!

As far as food, you have lots of options. A continental breakfast comes as part of the deal. That includes a large selection of coffees and teas. And if you happen to be here on Sunday morning, you might be invited to play "guinea pig" for some new breakfast casserole or omelette recipe. I am an excellent cook, if I do say so myself :-) There are 3 fast food places in walking distance and my freezers are usually full of homemade healthy food options (available at a nominal cost). A very large selection of full service restaurants is but a short drive away. We'll be happy to point you in the right direction, for whatever you're looking for.

In the spring, summer and fall, you may chose to spend some time relaxing in our big backyard. There's a stone patio with lawn chairs, surrounded by flowers and trees.

We've just recently considered the possibility of hosting a party of three people. The good news is that a third and fourth person can be accommodated for only $10 (more per person) in our second spare room, that has a comfortable full-sized futon. That person will have the same promise of clean linen, and a good breakfast. The bad news is that that room does NOT compare with the first guest room! We fondly call it the "cats' room", because the electronic, self-cleaning litter box is in there. We can have the cats use an alternate box during your stay--so that you can keep your door closed, but the regular box, is too cumbersome to move for just a night or two. It's also the laundry room and Kenneth's office space. All this to say---this room is NOT terribly attractive, it's functional! I'd say it's a step up from someone's sofa, but it is certainly not of the same comfort level or appeal as our primary guest room. You'll see a tv in the photo, but the laundry room tv only works, if the cable is turned off in the main guest room. Soooo, if you're on a budget and your third/fourth guest(s) is okay with the above-mentioned description, then by all means shoot me an email to discuss your visit!

Guest Access

Guests have access to their room, both bathrooms, the living room, the kitchen, the backyard and (usually) the driveway, If there are more than 2 guests, they will also have access to the second spare room. The other parts of the house are off limits--unless discussed in advance. The top of the toilet (in the master bath) is available for toiletries that you want to leave in the bathroom. Hooks for towels are available in the bathroom as well as your room.

Interaction with Guests

Guest interaction varies greatly with us. Never feel that you HAVE to spend time with us--we won't be offended if you are mostly in your room or out of the house. However, if we're home and you want to chat that's just fine! We've had some wonderful conversations with some of our guests--but it's never forced--sometimes it just clicks!

The Neighborhood

I love that our neighborhood is usually quiet, despite being 20 minutes away from the heart of Baltimore City.

Getting around

We are in an extremely convenient location! As long as you don't mind some walking, it's feasible to get around from the Amtrak station or BWI Airport using only public transportation. We are not on a bus line, but we are a short walk to Baltimore's light rail system. There is a cab company less than a mile from the house. And if you are driving, we're close to all the major highways in the area.

Other Things to Note

The ideal bookings for us come a few weeks to a month in advance. But we can usually accept reservations several months in advance and we've frequently accommodated last minute requests. Bottom line, it never hurts to ask! I'm online quite frequently and can usually give you a quick response.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Nannette and Kenneth's home! Everything was prepared upon our arrival and we felt very comfortable in the house as well as taking some time to relax in the backyard. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. The train station is literally a few blocks walk - very convenient. Nannette prepared a delicious breakfast for us. I will definitely consider staying at their home again in the future. Thanks, Nannette and Kenneth, for your hospitality! :)

  • Nannette was a gracious host to my sister and I during our quick overnight in Baltimore. Nanette waited up for us, gave us a quick tour of her house, made sure we were comfortable, and then let us get some rest. She provided a great grab and go breakfast in the morning as well. The house was easy to find and made for a good stay. This first airbnb experience was definitely a success. Thanks, Nanette!

  • Nannette was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. She had left out helpful toiletries as well as snacks, dvds and restaurant recommendations. The breakfast laid out for us was great. It was a very comfortable stay, if only we could have stayed for longer!

  • We unfortunately stayed only one night but found Nanette and Kenneth very friendly and fun. I felt as if I had known her for years.
Chocolates and a basket of toiletries in our room as well as a contiential breakfast were appreciated. I would definitely stay with them again. The neighborhood was attractive and the location convenient.

  • Me and my friend had to take a weekend course nearby so we just needed a place for one night...
And I couldn't imagine someone more friendly and hospitable than Nannette and Kenneth! We had a long trip from the busstop to their place and they offered us ('cause Kenneth is a cab driver) a special rate :)
Because of that couse starting on sat morning we had to get up early... but never the less Nannette offered us an awesome breakfast (which is all included) ;)
And on our trip back Kenneth showed us a little bit of Baltimore!
Long story short: we had a great trip and it was based in the main on Nanettes' and Kenneths' hospitality!

  • Nannette and Kenneth were wonderful hosts. My family and I enjoyed the stay. The house is at a great and safe location. It is short commute to Washington DC. The cat were adorable. Even if I am visiting Baltimore area even for a few hours in the future, I would certainly drop by to have some of the Nannatte's delicious breakfast!

  • Nannette and Kenneth were wonderful hosts. My bus came in late and Nannette called to check in with me. Kenneth works as a taxi driver and provided rides for me during my stay for a reduced rate. This was very convenient. They were both exceptionally kind and hospitable, welcoming me into their home as well as a family barbecue as I happened to be there on Memorial day weekend. Nannette is so easy to chat with. It felt like she was someone I had known for years. Also she is a phenomenol cook and makes breakfast for her guests which they can choose from a delicious menu. I had an amazing experience and could not ask for better. I wish for all the best for these two!

  • I had a great experience staying with Nannette and Kenneth! I did not get to meet Kenneth but Nannette is thoughtful, kind, supportive and very detail oriented! I was able to leave my bag with her when I went to the city in the morning of my arrival and she greeted me with a bottle of ice cold water. My room was perfect. Free breakfast was a wonderful bonus! Great location near the light rail and close to BWI. I hope I can stay here again during one of my future visits to Baltimore.

  • Everything was perfect! Nannette made me feel right at home and went above and beyond with her service. She made special efforts to get home from work so that I could check in early and took me to where I needed to go in the morning on her way to work. She provided me with a nice breakfast, clean linens, toiletries, and chocolates. I felt like I was in a nice hotel! And she was so friendly and wonderful to talk to. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay with her again!

  • Nannette was just wonderful. I made a last-minute request and she had a busy evening, but she made her space available to me and helped me figure out how to get to it.
The room is so homey, filled with thoughtful touches (thanks for the Toblerone, Nannette!) and helpful information. And the spinach/feta quiche for breakfast was INSANE. I had to eat it on the run and it was completely delicious, even gobbled at the transit station.
The location for getting to/from BWI couldn't be better; the house is a three-minute walk from the transit station straight to the airport, and I had no trouble navigating it even with two heavy suitcases.
I have two kids living in DC, and will make sure they come see Nannette whenever they have a morning flight out of BWI. It's a breeze!

We are an African-American couple in our mid-fifties. We're non-smokers and light drinkers. We are generally laid back. We both have pretty busy schedules--which is why for time being, we're generally not accepting reservations of more than 3 or 4 days at a time. But that's not a hard and fast rule, especially if you've stayed with us before; so feel free to check to see if an exception might be made. If you need some suggestions on what to do and/or where to go, while you're in the Baltimore area--you've got it! However, if you already have an agenda and just need a clean, quiet and safe place to lay your head--you've got that too! Please note that my "kids" are 2 cats. They are friendly and playful--if you choose to engage. But if you choose to keep your distance, no problem. One of them does "cry" a little bit late at night or early in the morning--just cuz he doesn't like to be kicked out of the master bedroom. If it happens, it's only for a few minutes. I don't think it's a big deal, but if you are a very light sleeper and/or don't like cats--then this would be a bad choice for you.
