1 night minimum stay
This place was too perfect, it was super central to the entire island and beautifully secluded as well. You get the gorgeous sky of stars at night and views of the ocean and hills as well. Hilary was very accommodating and I would recommend anyone else going to kauia to visit her land as well! Mahalo
Hilary's place is a great place to stay and explore the North of Kauai. The location is convenient and everything is easy to reach with a car. The room was even nicer than on the photos and I really enjoyed my stay. The provided breakfast is great and you've got a big choice of cereals, muesli and bread - I thought this was lovely. Hilary is a friendly host who is open for a chat to her guests and provides very lovely details. I can definitely recommend staying there and if I'd come back to Kauai I'd stay there again!
This was our third stay in Hilary's home. We enjoy the secluded location and quiet of just a few other house guests in this fully appointed home than the bustling, impersonal fishbowl of a resort or hotel. Hilary is a wonderful hostess who takes time to greet her guests when she sees them. During our three visits, we have met some very sweet and adventurous travelers who are more concerned with a beautiful authentic Hawaiian home, without air conditioning, but with more amenities than an resort can provide. And we have met a few who were put off by the fresh air and sounds of nature, preferring the hum of air conditioning. If you demand a/c, look for another place to stay. If you want the peaceful solitude of the island, then I highly recommend any room of this home. As long as we can continue to visit Kauai, we will stay here as long as a room is available.
This place is an OK location for people on a budget and for those who do not mind sharing a lot of space with random guests who may range from heavy drinking teenagers to families of four or five people (like it happened to us). Still too far for exploring the Na'Pali coast and Hanalei, and not good for people who may be allergic to cats and dogs.
Response from Hilary:
Aloha Paola, I will clarify about The Kauai Retreat Center here to help others understand about the environment... It is large; over 5000 sq ft under cover. All guests have private rooms and bathrooms. The shared common areas are the kitchen, laundry, lanai, hot tub, and living room. There is one outside cat that lives there and no dogs live there (but dogs may visit). The common areas are cleaned once daily and guests are asked tidy up the kitchen after use. I send guests directions and other information by text and email WITHIN a week prior to arrival. Especially in the summertime occasionally guests will include students and also occasionally children, too. A car is needed to access Hanalei (8 miles) and Na Pali trail/Haena (14 miles). Mahalo, Hilary
