From the start, Marian was absolutely brilliant and went over and above to make our stay truly awesome. Before we got to the house she was helpful and friendly and excellent at communication. We arrived at night due to delayed travel and she made sure the house was lit up and a warm fire greeted us. Even though it was midnight, she still made sure we were settled in ok and had food in our bellies as she had baked us a lovely lasagne.
The next morning we woke up to a stunning view that we had missed the night before. Killkelly is beautiful, remote and the perfect getaway. They made sure that we had a lovely selection of goodies for breakfast which was a great surprise and we felt really well looked after.
The house itself is really large, and in fact even though we are a family of 5 we felt like we had loads of space. It was well kept and had absolutely everything that you would need. Our kids got to explore and play outside daily.
Marian and Jimmy were awesome throughout our stay, popping in and we would see them working away on the land.
We would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get a real experience of proper Irish hospitality.
From the moment I first enquired about this property, I had the feeling that Marian would be a delightful host. I was not disappointed. Marian quickly responded to each of my emails and remained in regular contact prior to my arrival. Her communication was superb. When I arranged to pick up a rental car at nearby Ireland West Airport, Marian offered to meet me at the Airport to show me the way to the house. She greeted me with a warm and welcoming smile and I immediately felt at home.
As for the house, it became my secluded and cozy country home away from home. It was a perfect location for me to do family tree research and catch up with nearby relatives. Marian had stocked the refrigerator and cupboard with breakfast and dinner treats, homemade brown bread, fruit cake, scones, muffins and jam. I was delighted! Marian and her husband, Jimmy, kept me well stocked with wood and coal for the fireplace. A perfect way to end every day – curled up on the sofa with a warm fire and indulging in a good book. Have I gone to heaven I asked myself every day?
The house is very secluded and well off the beaten path. Guests will need to have a car. However, you’ll be less than 5 minutes from the N17 so getting to and fro will be no problem. Five minutes away is the town of Kilkelly where you can pick up groceries at Tarpey’s. If you want more “supermarket-style” shopping, take the N17 to Knock. You’ll be ideally located to visit other Mayo sites by car. Westport is just an hour away, Achill Island a bit further on. If you’re in need of gifts to bring home, head over to nearby Foxford to visit the woolen mill.
If what you desire is an authentic West of Ireland country experience, this is the location for you. The house is spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished and equipped with satellite TV. Marian and Jimmy have thoughtfully stocked the book case with books, jigsaw puzzles and DVDs. You can enjoy your meals in a kitchen equipped with all the “mod-cons” and gaze out the picture window to the fields behind the property. The view from the rear of the house is spectacular. At night, you’ll see stars like you’ve never seen before.
I can’t say enough about this property and Marian and Jimmy. I felt so at home. I wish I could have stayed forever. I hope every guest enjoys this house as much as I did.
This is an exceptionally spacious house. The host is extremely helpful and approachable. We had a wonderful experience living in the clean house which has absolutely everything for a cozy stay.
The only thing worth mentioning is: this house is situated in a farm area which has little public transport. You'll have to drive (your own car or rental) in order to enjoy the otherwise unmissable farm living experience.
