This area in East of County Clare is a hidden gem. The landscape is truly beautiful with fantastic vews of the lake from all sides. It is also a beautiful sylvan setting with trees dating back up to 200 years particularly in the Caher area.Lovely area for discovering nature, walks and fishing in particular. Each summer the area hosts 2 great local festivals The Scariff Harbour Festival and The Feakle Traditional Music festival with the renowned fiddle player, Martin Hayes the headline act.
Ideally ,you will need a car, although a local transport provider in East Clare called ECAT (East Clare Accessible Transport) may be checked out online to see the servce available. Bus Eireann also run a service in the area on Thursdays to and from the local town, Ennis Co Clare
Other Things to Note
We welcome all who love and respect the countryside. People are very friendly and welcoming in the area. You will find a really good shop locally 3 kms and 10 kms away in Scariff you have 2 supermarkets . In Gort, 15 kms away you have a variety of supermarkets including the Irish based Supervalu, Centra and the wellknown international chains of Lidl and Aldi
Please respect this property as it is one of the very oldest in the area. No smoking in the house. No animals in the house please except small family pets. Please keep pets on leads in the area of the farm.all farm animals are at a distance from the cottage which is safe and secure but a farmyard is not a playground so be careful near any machinery.
Four friends and I stayed in this beautiful cosy cottage for two nights. We just wished we could stay longer. Mary was so easy to book with. She welcomed us at the house and showed us around. She was very helpful in telling us of things going on nearby. She lit the fire for us and gave us scones and bread.
I would recommend staying here. We came away feeling completely relaxed.
If you want to live a country experience this is your place. Mary received us greet fully, she was really polite and friendly. We met also her husband and their cows, it was a nice experience.
The house was comfortable and pretty beautiful, we found as at our own home. We are lucky we were hosted by Mary.
Mary was a fantastic host. She was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed and more. She also introduced us to the the local area and lively local pubs. The cottage was fantastic, everything we expected from a rural get away.
We had one regret staying with Mary... it wasn't long enough! The farm was delightful and we were so welcomed, staying at the cottage was a highlight of our trip. This is an absolute gem.
Thank you Paul, Tamara and your parents and all your lovely extended family!!We would love to have had a little longer also with you guys !! Keep up the music junior Pratleys and we will expect you on the doorstep playing amazing versions of Irish music, one St Stephen's Day ( Boxing Day ) known as " hunting the Wren" in rural Ireland. Best wishes to all and you will be most welcome should you ever pass this way again Pratley O B's
I took my family (8 adults) to stay at `Mary's cottage. It was a lovely experience and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in a traditional irish cottage (with the luxury of central heating, hot water and comfy beds!). The location is a bit off the beaten track, but still good for trips to the burren and the Cliffs of Moher - that coastline is spectacular and if you have a car, not out of the way for day trips (less than an hour each way). When we arrived the cottage was delightfully decorated and clean. There were fresh wild flowers on the table and fresh bread, traybakes, juice and milk (fresh from the farm) were in the fridge. There was everything you needed for a quiet escape into the irish countryside. Mary is a wealth of knowledge on the locality and a very sweet and accommodating host. Her adult children were social, friendly and helpful and extended every courtesy to us as their guests. There is a great pub in Fickle (a short car ride away) that has delicious food and traditional live music on a Wednesday night. Really enjoyed it and would return again.
Thank you Laura, Donald and Kate and all your party!!. It was a real pleasure to meet and host your party!! I would love to have met your grandad also. We have put the GPS co ordinates on the site, I hope they are visible to further airbnb guests!!Bon voyage back to Kuala Lumper
We were welcomed by Flan and his daughter, as Mary was on holidays. Everything was as expected and there were even buns straight from the oven! The cottage was comfortable and we had everything we needed. We even had brilliant weather! The lake was very close and would have been great for fishing if we had brought rods...
Only one complaint: cooker could do with updating. As it is, one has to be extremely patient while boiling an egg...
