Ubud is Bali's most healthy, arty, yogic, cultural hub, and our street, Jalan Goutama, a walking street, is one of the town centre's favourites. It has some cars, but mostly bikes and pedestrians. It's full of fabulous eating and shopping venues, organic and raw cafes, tourist centres, spa's, bike rentals and so much more. The laundry is 100 metres down the road on the corner of Jalan Dewi Sita and they do a superb job. There's a 7/11 shop on Dewi Sita which is open 24 hours, Cuban Salsa club 200 metres away, and the main streets of central Ubud sandwich Goutama and are within minutes walking distance. It's very safe in this part of town, however we urge you to still take care. At night it's mostly quiet, there are no noisy dogs or roosters at the time of writing this.
Mai Malu is a 10-minute walk from the famous Monkey Forest and a 1-hour drive from Seminyak and Kuta. Ngurah Rai International Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away. We can arrange trips for you to the Gili Islands, door to door, or Amed or most places in Bali. Please ask Putu or Wayan for details of trips and tours and taxi services.
-> Walk to everything you need
-> Get a bike taxi, or car taxi
-> Rent a car or bike
-> Or we can organise your travel for you, local or around the island or to the Gilis and beyond
Other Things to Note
This listing is for one person, but the rooms can accommodate 2 or 3 ... our main bed is actually 2 large single beds which can be split, and we can place a mattress in for a third person, the rooms are large enough to cater for a third person (depending on how much luggage you have). As mentioned, you can upgrade to an airconditioned VIP room for an additional 50 thousand IDR. Please advise if this is desirable in your booking inquiry. If it is not clear at this time we will assume you are requesting a room downstairs with no aircon :)
The best way to connect with us is via email rather than phone. Please do not give our phone number to your travel organisers as a contact for you as we cannot assist. Email us first if there are any special needs, that's the best way we can help you :)
This is a homestay, which means it is a Balinese family run guesthouse. We treat you as our personal guests and welcome you into our home space to share the blessing of Balinese living with us. We ask you respect the space as if it were your home, and the other people who share this space with us. We recommend quiet times from 10pm to 7am ... and ask that you be mindful of outdoor conversations during this quiet time as the sound does carry to the other guest spaces. We also ask that you be mindful of your smoking and respect our non-smoking guests. There is plenty of space in Ubud for late nite partying, loud conversations, drinking and smoking, so we recommend you maintain this space as a place for resting and nourishment and enjoyment :)
I unfortunately couldn't make the accommodation, however Putu was extremely helpful and followed up top speed.
There is no doubt I will book here next time I am in Bali!
I stayed 2 nights at Putu's homestay. The location in central Ubud is ideal - walking distance from everything but on a side street so there is less traffic.
Putu was very friendly, welcoming and gave me a bigger room my 2nd night. She was always willing to help and with a smile.
Don't be surprised the accommodation is very bare bones but if that's what's you're after it is fine.
I did experience some bug bites my 2nd night - even though I was sleeping in a sea to summit brand insect repellent treated sleeping bag liner - so I think spiders potentially.
Basic place for low cost. Good water pressure. Hot and cold worked well. Great location and friendly staff.
My friend and I stayed at Puti's homestay in February 2015. We loved the central location and beautiful garden. Puti and everybody else working at her place were very kind and helpful. Next time I visit Ubud I will surely stay here again.
My time spent at the Mai Malu Homestay was nice. The garden area is beautiful and it was lovely to hear the birds each day. The bed was big and comfy. (The photos are an accurate depiction of Mai Malu Homestay). Breakfast each morning was also really nice. Putu and her family were friendly and always working to help the guests in any way. The one thing I did hope for was more hot water - it was generally cold in mornings, but warm in afternoons. Location-wise, Mai Malu Homestay is central to many places of Ubud and it's on a great street for everything you might need.
My Stay in the Mai Malu Homestay was nice. I had a big room whith giant clean bet und bathroom with bath. It was very quiet there, I didnt hear any noisis from the street, even though the homestay is in the heart of Ubud. Just the spring in the garden and the birds...One thing: remember, that you wont find the Comfy Homestay in the Goutama street, you should watch for Mai Malu Homestay! Thanks for staying there.
Thankyou Adela for your lovely feedback, We are so grateful you stayed with us and enjoyed the homestay. You are always welcome at Mai Malu.
I'm not quite sure what you mean in your last sentence though, would you like to clarify so we can amend our details where neccessary.
This was certainly a comfortable stay in the centre of a busy part of Ubud. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby, and an easy walking distance to the main street. The room was big, with a comfortable bed. The bathroom also is big, with a hot water shower, which I appreciated after a day out and about.
I stayed with my son and we both had a pleasant time. I enjoyed watching the fish in the fish pond, playing with the little dog and just spending time in the courtyard garden. I also enjoyed the early morning coffee and fruit before we departed on our travels.
I would recommend this accommodation as a safe, comfortable and friendly place to stay within the price range.
