Enchanting sunny bedroom with skylight perfect for star gazing! Private entrance and large private bathroom. Hot tub in shared yard. On a serene, sunny, two acre property surrounded by trees.
We are located in the sunbelt just 8 minutes from Fort Bragg and 15 minutes from charming Mendocino Village, just two miles inland but far enough so you can escape the coastal fog when it sets in.
The Dahlia Den comes with a private bathroom and separate entrance so you can come and go as you please. The comfortable king-sized bed gives you an amazing view of the night stars courtesy of a large skylight which is located at the peak of a domed ceiling (in the shape of an octagon!). Sliding doors open onto a deck and hot tub, complete with a sitting area where you can enjoy your morning coffee.
The luxurious bathroom houses a tub-for-two, plus a separate shower. We supply bath towels, towels for the hot tub, and shampoo/soap. There is no TV, but we do have an amazing library of books for your enjoyment. There is WiFi, so if you want to be plugged in, by all means bring your devices. Coffee and tea fixings are provided.
Privacy stuff: There is a shared wall between this bedroom and our living room, but we keep our sound to a minimum when we have guests. Also, the hot tub and deck overlook my backyard. We won’t use the hot tub when you are around so you can enjoy your privacy, but during the weekend days you may see me tooling around the garden.
Note: If you are interested in a room with even more privacy, TV, and a kitchenette, ask me about the upgrade when you inquire (or after you book) and I can give you more detail (it is my college-age daughter’s room, so we share it when she’s not here.)
Why do we call it the Dahlia Den? Well for one thing, I have an intense love of dahlias, cultivated during my years living in San Francisco and visiting the amazing dahlia garden in Golden Gate Park every year. I love their symmetry and they proliferate in my garden here in Fort Bragg during the summer so you will always enjoy a bouquet when they are in bloom. The room itself reminds me of a lovely dahlia (see photos) because of the ceiling’s symmetrical shape and the rich eggplant-purple walls.
We are gay-friendly and tourist-friendly! Please let me know in advance if you have any special needs or requests to make your stay enjoyable.
We're about a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco or Oakland airports. Santa Rosa also has a small airport (Alaska/Horizon main carrier). We are 2.5 hours from Santa Rosa.
Check in is 3pm, checkout is Noon, but let me know if you need a later departure or earlier arrival, and if I can accommodate you I will.
We have a 2-night minimum policy, but you are free to request single nights on weekdays and I will generally be able to accommodate you.
One note: most cell phones work from the house, but AT&T service is less reliable. You are welcome to use the phone at my house for important calls if yours doesn't work.
Another note: PLEASE print out or bring along the directions you receive after booking. If you rely on the GPS sometimes they lead you astray when you get up near my house.
No smoking inside and no pets, sorry, though we do have a friendly on-site dog named Xena.
I like to leave my guests to their privacy so other than the initial greeting, I don't have any expectations!
Now for the neighborhood! You are a two minute walk from the redwoods of Jackson State Forest, and a 2 mile drive from the Mendocino Coast beaches and the gorgeous botanical gardens.
Our neighborhood is quiet and friendly, but we all respect each others' privacy. It's sunnier than staying on the coast.
Enjoy wine-tasting, surfing, kayaking, or hiking at any time of year, or check in advance to find out which of the many festivals are happening before you visit (salmon, crab, mushroom, whale, film and music festivals, local history days, Paul Bunyan days, etc). We are about 8 minutes away from Fort Bragg, and are about 15 minutes from the village of Mendocino
There is public transit between Fort Bragg and Mendocino and to other areas, but it does not come up our street.
Quiet after 10pm, leave the place as you found it generally. No smoking.
Anne was very welcoming and helpful in recommending things to do, plus the binder was well-stocked with restaurant and activity information. The property is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Clean and cozy. Easy to find and not too far from the main road, but tucked away enough that it is very quiet and serene. Loved the hot tub, the luxurious bathroom and her cute dogs!
Anne was extremely accommodating to make our stay a wonderful one! It was raining when we visited so she offered a host of suggestions for rain-appropriate activities. The accommodations were exactly as described, and in a totally charming setting.
Lovely location for touring the area.
Anne was most helpful and friendly.
Appreciated the amenities and the privacy.
The sight of a couple of deer outside the door on the final morning was a bonus!
Being at Dahlia made me instandly feeling at home. The room is exactly how it is described and had some unexpected extras like a window in the roof, so that you can look into the sky from the bed, or tea and coffee. By the way, the bed was super cozy!!!
All was very clean. The place is very quiet, so it was perfect to have a relaxing time.
Anne was very helpful in all, was open for a longer talk but also left space for being on myself. I can truly recommend this beautiful place. Thanks again!
Loved this space! My friend and I rented the Lily Pad and between the two spaces, had the equivalent of a whole house to ourselves. It was the perfect setting for our getaway retreat! I especially loved walking up the street and being in the forest. Oh, and the hour tub. :-) Yum.
Anne is attentive, polite, and so helpful; her discription and directions were spot on and she communicated everything I needed to know in a timely manner prior to my arrival. She greeted my companion and I upon arrival, showed us the lovely room and let us get settled. The room was clean and comfortable and there were all sorts of thoughtful extras (like a "things to do guide", hair dryer, books, and even a corkscrew upon request) that made the accommodation very pleasant. I would have liked to stay a little bit longer (especially since I didn't get to check out the hot tub on this visit). This was exactly what I was hoping for when I envisioned my weekend getaway in Mendocino - Thanks!

I love to travel and love to meet travelers! I moved to this beautiful area from San Francisco about 6 years ago and really enjoy sharing it with guests at the Tree House. Since I don't get to travel as often as I would like, I live vicariously through the stories of the travelers passing through, and have many a good gab on the deck of the Tree House. I hope to meet you soon (or again!).
