Our beautiful ancient House, peaceful, decorated with style, with a lovely Garden and splash Pool, is at the end of a small medieval village, between Lucca and the sea side. It is also lovely and very romantic in low season, stove on, quiet landscape, long walks, books and a piano

The space

Our house is very ancient, made out of stone at the end of a medieval village of ten houses. It is surrounded by olive Groves and Lavandas, Fruit Trees and Chestnut Woods. The Garden is quiet, mediterranean plants make it colorful and refreshing, perfect to relax, read a book, contemplate the view. You can taste and use all our Mediterranean herbs (Rosemary, sage, bay, Thime, etc) in the private kitchen and enjoy your meals outside in the shade of the vine pergola. Among all the roses you can have a dip in our lovely splash pool (3x2,5m) while over looking the stunning view of the Lucca valley.
The bedrooms are very special retreats. All walls are decorated with paintings, special objects, many books and good furniture. Every corner is full of inspiration and creativity. The bathrooms are big: one with a shower, many books, and a lovely view over the garden and valley, the other one has a bath. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans and basic food (olive oil, salt pepper, milk, pasta). The red living room is very cosy, here you can find books and maps about Lucca and its surroundings. The main living space is a open kitchen, living room, with direct access to the garden and a lovely view.On one side of the house is the totally private garden with the lovely splash pool, on the other side the quiet village. You can have endless walks into the hills or woods or olive groves. Or just relax in a totally magical environment, gazing at the lovely flowers, roses , herbs of the garden. The house has free wi-fi.
On walking distance there is a lovely little restaurant with a beautiful terrace overlooking the hills where you can have a local dinner in a very friendly ambiance.
The beautiful town of Lucca is 15min. far and the beaches are 20min. far. We can also advise you some amazing rivers you can go too, to have a refreshing wild swim in ponds carved in rocks or marble stones... Pisa, Florence, Siena, Cinque Terre are all reachable for day trips.

We offer both b&b option or weekly rent. When rented weekly, we do not serve breakfast.
Our breakfast is lovely and fresh: fruits, yogurt, jam and ham, cheese, fresh bread, muesli, juice, coffee and tea, that you can have outside in the garden if sunny, in our lovely kitchen if rainy.

if you want we can advise you trips, visits, restaurants, or some cooking receipts. But if you just would like to rest in the garden and absorb the lovely sun light, you can have all the silence and privacy you just wish for.
know it sounds funny, but we happen to live in the most beautiful surroundings ever. As painter everyday I am amazed how beautiful the landscape, the woods, the olive groves, the villages, the towns, the nature, people and above all light are here. you can just sit and look around and never get bored. Or if you like to walk you can take endless walks into nature, every path you take is beautiful.

We live on a hill in Tuscany, this means there is no bus service and you need to have a car or a bike if you are very fit. It is not possible to move around without, and you would be missing so much of it.

In winter period we have an additional central heating cost: please ask if you are interested. Wood for the stove is included in the price.

Guest access

you will have total privacy in our lovely garden, sun bed chairs, garden table and chairs, use of the splash pool, wi fi, books and maps, sheets and towels, kitchen equipment, fridge, and most of all a unique beautiful spot of the world.

Interaction with guests

We have a long experience with guests and we wish when you arrive that you feel on holiday but as comfortable as at home. We interact if you wish us too. We will come to the house to water plants and clean pool once in a while, hope you don't mind. If you are a bigger group or a family we do have a special offer for you. Please just ask :)))

Other things to note

This place was a rustic, charming Tuscan gem. Gorgeous views, beautiful gardens, huge home. Damema gave excellent recommendations for day trips and dinners. Lucca, nearby, is one of my favorite towns in Italy. The house is a bit of a ride up the hill, but so so worth it. Everything you want your Tuscan retreat to be.

Damema's home is a beautiful, rustic, and absolutely magical place to stay. It is up in the mountains on the top of a windy road, so as long as you are prepared to drive that type of route, you will have a wonderful time. The house is full of Damema's personal art work and the property has layers of trees and flowers and a view of the mountains. There was plenty of space, Damema was genuine and responsive in her communication, and the overall experience was a good balance of relaxing and energizing. We took day trips to Florence, Viareggio, and the center city of Lucca. We spent a night in, making an Italian meal of collected pasta, artichokes, cheese, and wine from the local grocery store, and had one of our best Italian dinners out at Ristorante Vipore, a twenty minute driver (through a winding road) from her house. The memories and experience for our family will be lasting!

Words cannot describe how incredible the experience was. The chirping birds, quaint village, babbling brook, breathtaking countryside...a step way back in time! Can't imagine any better accommodations for soaking in the Tuscany charm! Damema arranged for an in house cooking class as well that enriched our immersion even more--it was incredible! We felt like locals! Highly recommemd and hope to come back and spend a month! Damema's recommendations and accessibility were a huge bonus!

Damema was a great host. She was very responsive and helpful and made the stay very enjoyable. The home and surrounding area was even more beautiful than we were expecting, the kitchen was well equipped and the views from the bedrooms and the charming backyard were definitely our favorite part of our stay.

We had a great experience at the Painter's House. Damema's husband Wes welcomed us on our arrival and gave us all the information we needed for our stay (including suggestions for what to see, where to eat, etc.). Damema had all the beds made up in the configuration we needed (we had a group of 7 family and friends) and then met us the next morning and set out an amazing breakfast out on the patio. The house was beautiful as was the garden, the patio, and the view of the surrounding mountains. The wifi on top of the mountain was very good (which was a pleasant surprise!). There was plenty of room for all of us and the location was not only beautiful but an easy trip into Florence and Lucca (as well as a good distance from Rome with a stop in Siena!). A few things: 1. Follow Damema's instructions up the mountain. We drove a 9 person van up and down the mountain without any issues and there was a place to park near the house. Do not take the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map instructions to and from the house - you'll end up on what feels like a walking path and wish you'd followed instructions! 2. Listen to Damema when she strongly encourages you to see Lucca. We had precious little time to explore the area but squeezed in a dinner in Lucca on her recommendation and were so glad we did! 3. Spend time out in the garden of the Painter's House - especially if the weather is fine and you can dine al fresco. We really enjoyed our stay at the Painter's House and meeting Damema and Wes. It was one of the highlights of our trip and many who saw our photos and heard about our experiences are anxious to go to Tuscany and stay here, too.

We had an absolutely wonderful two-week stay at Damema's. The part of the house we rented includes a large sleeping loft with a very comfortable queen-size bed and a desk, a large living room heated by a wood-burning stove we used in the evening, a well-equipped kitchen with stove/oven, refrigerator, sink and all basic pots and pans, dishes and glasses. We cooked in several times, using the herbs from the garden and even cooking quince from our tree. The bathroom has all the usual features plus a washing machine (you dry clothes on a line outside). The three levels are connected by a series of steps. The house is delightfully cozy. Sitting in the sun in the garden was lovely for reading or simply appreciating the view. The dunking pool is just that, and is perfect to get refreshed after a hot day. You are up in the hills above Lucca, a 25-minute drive away. Barbagianni is a family-run restaurant five minutes away by foot. Don't miss it. Damema and her family have moved out of the main house, which they are selling, so we had the place to ourselves. In spite of not being right there, Damema was always available by phone and text and was unfailingly helpful and gracious in responding to any of our needs and in making suggestions for activities, restaurants and special events we should consider (and thankfully did). We cannot recommend Damema and The Painter's House enough.

Damema and her family were great and very welcoming. Too bad she is moving to a new location, it had great views and an artsy feel.

I am a painter. I paint land scapes, views, nature, the sea. My painting is fully linked to the area I live in: I try everyday to capture the lovely lights of my country. I love gardens and flowers: I have planted a forest by now in my life and this thought makes me feel better. …
