About this listing
Our farmhouse is almost 200 years old. We are in a quiet spot yet nestled between Aberporth on the coast and Cardigan with all the amenities. A great location for walking the coastal path or visiting some of the best beaches in West Wales.
This is the conservatory on the house. A nice place to chill, looking up the drive. Photo by guest John and Diana.

The house is on a quiet 8 acre small holding near the beautiful coastline of West Wales. 3 miles to Cardigan and about a 40 minute drive to the Ferry to Ireland at Fishguard. A few miles to 6 beautiful sand beaches, two that are National Trust. You can easily walk to the Ceredigion Coastal Path. There are 6 bedrooms: a bedroom with a single bed, one with a double bed, one with a King Size bed and single bed, two more with a double bed and a small one downstairs with a single bed.
There is a large lounge/dining room and a good size kitchen with a Rayburn Stove. There is a conservatory to enjoy the sun when it is a bit cool outside. Two bathrooms and and outside shower in one of the barns if you hate baths.
In nearby Cardigan (4 miles) there are supermarkets (a Tesco, Aldi, and Co-op) and plenty of restaurants.
As a side note, all money we earn from airbnb goes to a building fund so we can convert one of the stone barns into a holiday home for families who have a disabled child. I work at a charity for disabled children and our youngest daughter (now 22) has a disability.
You can use the Trampoline in the garden. You can also borrow beach stuff if you like.
Interaction with Guests
We are around if you need any assistance.
The house is down a lane and there are no immediate neighbours. It is quiet here. Close to Mwnt beach, in our mind one of the prettiest beaches in Wales. You can access the coastal path down a quiet lane and footpath near a derelict waterwheel.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop that has an hourly service during the day. The Cardi Bach, the coastal minibus, goes by 4 times a day.
We are offering our home out during the summer months when we will be staying in the caravan on site. There is no smoking in the house please and we do not take pets. All bedding and towels are provided..
The house , gardens and landscape are even more beautiful than they appear in photographs. The farmhouse seems to grow out of the land and Alex and Renie have created an atmosphere of great warmth and interest, a comfortable, peaceful home that is deeply welcoming. There were little, thoughtful touches too - fresh flowers about the house, bottles of water and chocolate in each bedroom, making us feel so welcome.
We were a large group, seven adults, aged between 75 and 40 and five children aged from 13 to 4 but there was space enough for all - a big garden for the kids to run around in with lots of games provided ( both inside and out ) a roomy, well equipped kitchen for family meals , and restful areas in the garden, sitting room and conservatory where you could just sit or read. And, something quite important I think, lovely, comfortable beds and pillows.
Some of us came from South Africa, some from Sussex and London, all of us fell in love with the house, the garden and the extraordinary beauty of this part of Wales and would happily have stayed longer and will, I hope, come back.
We chose well in coming to The Old Stone Farmhouse and want to thank Alex and Renie for being such kind, tolerant and helpful hosts.
Alex and Renie were very welcoming and have a lovely home, we had a wonderful time. It was so cosy and the beds were extremely comfy. The area is great too, we didn't adventure too much but there is a lot to explore. Everything ran extremely smoothly and they made everything easy.
We had the most marvellous stay with Alex and Renie at the end of August. They were the perfect hosts making us feel welcome and relaxed from the moment we arrived. The house is perfect for the large family we were, spacious comfortable bedrooms with delightfully comfortable beds. The kitchen is very well equipped, there was nothing that we needed at all. The children had such fun on the trampoline and the bikes. Alex and Renie were so generous in loaning us wet suits and boards to make the days at the beach even more fun. I definitely hope to return soon and look forward to seeing the progress in the next door barn restoration. Lovely , relaxing and comfortable , the perfect spot for a family holiday.
We spent a wonderful week at Alex and Renie's farm this summer. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and fascinating. My parents (in their 70s) really enjoyed having some other grown ups to talk to, while my 4yr old nephew loved the fact that their grandchildren were often around on the farm. The animals (and the trampoline!) were a lovely addition to the whole experience.
The house was even more comfy and cosy than we'd imagined and it was a treat for us to have 6 adults and 2 kids around the kitchen table, enjoying meals together or round the fire of an evening. Everything we needed was there and having two bathrooms made it easy for everyone to get along in the mornings.
The location of the property is beautiful and handy for the tourist attractions: a 5min drive/ 45min walk to one of Wales' loveliest beaches at Mwnt, 10mins to Cardigan and close enough to the main road to make longer journeys easy.
We are five adults and three kids, who rented the house for a period of 10 days. And it was a great experience! The place is beautifully situated and a perfect place to bring kids. There was lots of toys both outside and inside, and there were lots of animals to talk to.
The house is a beautiful stone cottage, and is perfect for many people, since there is the cosiest kitchen where everybody can gather but also rooms, where you can retreat for a quiet moment.
Renie and Alex are very warm and hospitable people, who went out of their way to make our stay the best possible - and they succeeded. It was a pleasure meeting them.
The house is ideal situated for making trips to the amazing Welsh nature and cozy little towns.
Only my warmest recommendations will suffice.

We enjoyed a wonderful week staying in the farmhouse, Alex and Renie went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The house and gardens are very beautiful and perfect for young explorers.
Despite the rainy weather the location was perfect for exploring Cardigan and the gorgeous beaches along that strech of the Pembrokeshire coast.
We would certainly recommend staying here.

About the Host, Alex & Renie
After almost all the children left home (we have 9 of them) we wanted to share our home with others. Sometimes they come back so it can be a busy household at times. Originally from the USA, we have been in Britain since 1980. When our youngest was born with a disability, our life direction changed. We moved to Wales in 1997. I love my work at a charity for disabled children. We also are involved in disabled skiing.
We have met so many interesting and lovely people through hosting with airbnb. It has been good fun and a good excuse to keep the house tidy. Also the funds have helped us convert an old stone cow barn into a beautiful holiday let. We just finished it in September 2014 We like walking and cycling and exploring all the beautiful parts of the UK.
