The Space

1 bedroom recently designer renovated duplex flat within the Kings Court development just off St Paul's Square. Flat is south facing and very bright, with a view of the square.

The flat is on the first and second floors and is accessed via (secure gate) and communal gardens. The flat is arranged with kitchen and living/dining/work area downstairs and bedroom & bathroom upstairs. The kitchen has all (brand new) mod cons and is totally furnished with (nice!) crockery etc (plus lovely tea sets from Germany if you like to take your tea in this way..!), plus a dishwasher. The sitting room has a comfortable sofa bed (sleeps 1), dining table and cable tv. And lots of art books! Upstairs is the bedroom with double bed and bathroom with bath - and washing machine. The flat has a mezzanine style arrangement so although it sleeps 3, you need to understand that there is not much privacy between the sleeping areas! The flat is really perfect for single people or couples - but can easily and comfortably accommodate a third person if this open-planness is understood!

The flat is located in St Paul's Square, one of the most sought after locations in the city centre - and the only remaining Georgian Square ((website hidden)_Paul%27s_Square,_Birmingham), with a view of St Paul's church from the windows, and, from upstairs, a great view over the whole of Birmingham. On St Paul's Square itself there are lots of bars & restaurant and it's literally a 10 minute walk into town from here. There is also underground parking. And a Tescos express 8 mins walk (website hidden) Paul's square is in the Jewelry Quarter, which really is where a huge proportion of all jewelry in the UK is still made. So during the day you can see people at work in their studios. And there's the incredible Pen Museum, which is totally worth visiting - more than once! (website hidden)

There is a good coffee shop - Urban Coffee - nearby and the canal is 5 mins away, from where you can reach Brindley Place in 10 mins - or run along it (if you run) or walk, or cycle..

I bought this flat and did it up with a good friend, Matthew Dunning, who is an interior designer (http://(email hidden)/) last summer thinking I'd stay full time, due to a job that I have since left. I'm an artist and based between Birmingham and Berlin - and elsewhere! - so look for people to rent my flat whilst I'm not here.

Please contact me with any questions you might have!

  • The appartment was fine, in a quite area. You can reach the city center by a short walk, Good place to stay at.

Unfortunately, I did not meet Elly, but she left everyting arranged with a friend of her and neighbour and she was available all the time through mails/phone.

  • Charming, idiosyncratic, modern duplex in a great location: I was able to walk to my work place. Warm and cosy, despite the arctic weather outside. Considerate and helpful (absent) landlady. Recommended

I'm an artist & curator who moved from London to Berlin in Summer 2008 and set up a gallery in my apartment there. Last Jan, I moved to the UK to take up a teaching job in the Midlands. And I now divide my time between Birmingham, Berlin - & elsewhere. In Birmingham, I am working at the moment with two other artist/curators. My project is FRAME - an exhibition across multiple venues across the city, which follows on from an exhibition I originally conceived for a 6 month residency of Clarke Gallery (my gallery) at the midland arts centre. Search for Clarke Gallery Berlin if you like to see a bit more!
