Description

The space

'An Thaobh Thall' is Irish for 'The Farside' and this beautiful house is only 6 miles on the farside of the 'Moon Boy' world of Boyle, West of Ireland. It is a two story house with large light filled kitchen / diningroom, study / spare room, adjoining studio (sleeping two) and 3 acres of land frequently visited by deer, occasionally by pine-marten and less often than you might imagine by rain. (Rain is a damp substance which falls from the sky)

In the beautiful Lough Key area where Roscommon, Sligo and Leitrim converge and the setting for many of the writings of the great author John McGahern. Solid fuel Rayburn supported by oil-fired central heating and open fires make this a charming residence which provides access to the best of what the North-West of Ireland has to offer.

The Atlantic sea is 30 minutes away (25 miles) at Sligo. Knock Airport is less than an hour away. The nearest town, Boyle is 6 miles. Carrick-on-Shannon is 11 miles and Dublin is 2.5 hours (110 miles) by train / 2 hours by car. Lake and river boating, megalithic tombs, hill walking, turf cutting, surfing, traditional music, cinema and arts festivals are all available - some depending on the time of year. Fishing boat with outboard motor available, parking for up to 3 cars. Good neighbours.

Hi there,
I am a tall bearded man with a love of Barry's Tea, Bushmills & Talisker whiskey, bacon and cabbage, bread and butter pudding.and Green & Black's chocolate. Also handy with an axe ....but purely for chopping wood. When not eating, wielding and axe, gardening, or out in the boat on Lough Key, I spend time at a laptop planning pathfinder projects, mind-mapping and networking by email. My Dublin 'office' is in Buswells Hotel opposite Dáil Eireann. Heaven is a warm summers day outside with a mug of tea, the Irish Times and Sharon Shannon playing in the background. Heaven is also inside by a blazing fire on a cold winters night watching 'Wallender'. Hell is looking at cash flow projections while listening to economic commentators on the radio.
