Feel at Home in Sweet San Francisco
Welcome to our cozy, one-bedroom apartment in the historic Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in beautiful San Francisco! This classic Edwardian with high ceilings, big bay windows, and built-in ornamental shelving is quintessential San Francisco architecture.
We are located right in the center of town, near the corner of the infamous Haight and Ashbury intersection, on the top floor with lots of sunshine and garden views. And when the fog rolls in, so does the cool eucalyptus-scented ocean breeze.
You will be sleeping in our spacious master bedroom which faces east and so the morning sun brightens and warms your main living space, and the afternoon sun warms the kitchen.
The bedroom is furnished with a queen-sized spring mattress and bed frame, couch, wooden Art Deco designed desk, lamps, stereo, Chinese armoire, drawers, mirrors, plenty of shelving and organizational space, friendly plant life and cozy warm colors.
Have a warm bath in our deep, claw foot bathtub. The apartment features a split bathroom with the tub and sink in one room and the toilet in another.
The kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need to eat in such as cutlery and cookware, fridge, stove and oven, top of the line water filter, coffee bean grinder and filters, toaster oven, etc..
Or go on a foodie adventure! Select from any of the fine neighborhood eateries. Or please feel free to ask and I will recommend my favorite restaurants, cafes, festivals, tourist or local sites---all that the Bay Area and Northern California has to offer.
We are looking for non-smoking, quiet, clean and conscientious guests. Quiet and responsible are key as you will be residing in our home (not some anonymous hotel) and our neighbors are friends and we'd like to keep it that way ;-) This would be ideal for a responsible individual looking for an affordable space in the Haight-Ashbury, or just wanting an extended Haight-Ashbury vacation.
We are literally a stone's throw from Haight Street and one of the most famous intersections on Earth--the Haight-Ashbury! The Haight is a cultural, musical and artistic mecca in the history of San Francisco. The Grateful Dead, among so many other artists, lived in our neighborhood. Today, the neighborhood is full of modern artists and musicians, and is a melting pot of locals and visitors alike from all classes, ethnicities, and all walks of life.
We are located within walking distance to Golden Gate Park and the Panhandle (3-5 minute walk), Cole Valley (5-10 minutes away), the Inner Sunset (9th and Irving) (15-20 min walk via the park), the Western Addition (10 min walk), the Castro (15-20 min walk), Hayes Valley (20 min walk) and the lower Haight (15 min walk), the place to go for SF's best Thai, great Indian, BBQ, beer and more.
We are within walking distance to the California Academy of Science, the Conservatory of Flowers and Strybing Arboretum, the De Young Museum, the Botanical Gardens, the Japanese Tea Garden, Tank Hill, Twin Peaks, several playgrounds for children, and dozens and dozens of cafes, restaurants and bars for food and nightlife.
There are several major food markets which all cater to foodies and vary from around the corner to a 10 minute walk! Whole Foods is a few blocks away, as is Lucky Supermarket and Falletti Food, and the Ashbury Market is right around the corner so you can get everything you need within walking distance.
There is also a weekly Wednesday afternoon Farmers Market during spring, summer and fall across from Whole Foods near the entrance to Golden Gate park. And on Thursday evenings the popular gourmet food trucks park in that same spot for yummy affordable treats. San Francisco is an organic food paradise.
The Haight Street festival is held annually during springtime and it's the busiest day of the year for the neighborhood.
Typically, the Upper Haight is quiet and calm at night, other than a few local bars located on Haight Street or the unexpected party that a neighbor may throw, of which we have no control. This is to be expected in a city full of musicians, artists, youth, creative entrepreneurs, Burners (as in Burning Man), and tourists taking it all in. And this is especially so during celebratory holiday times such as Cinco de Mayo, Halloween or during the Haight Street Fair. While we consider the Upper Haight to be a safe neighborhood, there can be petty crime in the area, so do not leave your valuables unattended, or visible in your vehicle, or your bicycle unlocked.
Transportation-wise, our nearby SF MUNI buses will get you virtually anywhere in the city and the MUNI light rail, called the N-Judah, can take you downtown in 15 minutes! You catch the N-Judah at Carl and Cole St. Multiple MUNI bus lines (phone number hidden)) intersect with Haight along Ashbury, Masonic and Clayton. Take a downtown bus or the N-Judah to the Civic Center if you need to catch BART to go to the East Bay or South Bay and the Oakland or San Francisco International Airport. And the N-Judah can take you to the Caltrain depot for trains to the South Bay and toward San Jose.
If you are bicycling, Page St is a bike boulevard and there are bike paths along the Panhandle.
Parking a car in the Haight can be competitive. It's best along the Panhandle or Page St and it's best before commuters arrive home. Keep on eye out for the parking signs which designate when the street cleaners need you to move your vehicle.
In general our apartment is fully furnished. We can also provide towels and linens if you like. We have DSL internet connection and wifi. Sorry, we have no TV but who needs TV when you're on holiday in San Francisco, and there's so much to see and do!!!

We checked in with a friend of Aaron's who lived a couple of miles away and made us feel very welcome! We had her number so we could text her with any questions, and she was pretty much immediately available to respond. The apartment itself is very nice and comfortable, and having a full kitchen is a plus when you're on vacation! Also there is a whole foods about a 10 minute walk away, so that was great (in addition to a smaller local market and numerous coffee shops in the immediate vicinity). Great location close to the park, and the neighborhood has a great vibe. Definitely a fun place to stay!
Though there was a little bit of noise from the downstairs neighbors, a quick tap on the floor quieted down the music they were playing, so it wasn't a huge issue.
I stayed here for 3 nights with my best friend. We flew in from different cities and our flights got in to different terminals at SFO, and so we ended up getting to the apartment about an hour later than we said we would be arriving. Per Aaron's recommendation, we took Super Shuttle for $27 for two people, but it was pretty slow. Aaron's friend, Sally, met us at the apartment and was extremely gracious about our unexpected lateness. She showed us around the apartment and we chatted about all being therapists - she was really nice and welcoming! The place is beyond gorgeous. The pictures don't even do it justice. The bathtub and sink are in a different room than the toilet. No microwave. The flight of stairs to get into the apartment is definitely doable but something to keep in mind for other guests who might have a hard time with a long flight of stairs. The location is seriously unbeatable - a few steps away from the Haight-Ashbury intersection. We had breakfast every morning at the Blue Front Cafe and would recommend it to anyone else who stayed here. We took Lyft Lines everywhere in the city for really cheap but did a lot of walking as well. We did encounter a pretty big problem one day - the downstairs neighbor (probably apartment 4?) was playing music SO beyond loudly that the entire apartment was shaking, cups were bouncing around on the table, and it was pretty much uninhabitable (Seriously! It was like Coachella-level volume downstairs). We had come home to take a nap because we were exhausted but couldn't even stay inside because it was crazy loud and the bed was vibrating. One problem here is that part of the house rules include not communicating with neighbors - we contacted Aaron and his friend Sally but didn't hear from anyone for about 5 hours so we ended up attempting to ring the neighbors' doorbell to no answer and banging on the floor in the bedroom until the neighbor finally heard us and turned the music down slightly. The blaring music (death metal, great!) lasted for maybe 7 hours or so until the guy heard us. Sally called us back later that night and was really apologetic. Overall we had a really fabulous stay but that experience left us in a tough spot since we had been told not to have interaction with neighbors. Otherwise the place was seriously great minus the unexpected music, we could not have loved Sally more, and this would be a really romantic spot for a weekend getaway. We took a Lyft Line to the airport for $20 - super quick, got picked up within 5 minutes of requesting it. Thanks guys for having us!
As we write in our profile, we have no control over neighbor's parties esp during holiday weekends, as it was during your stay. Apparently, the loud music occurred in daytime and was off by 10pm. We are private, barely know most new neighbors in a city with high turnover given high rents (typical city life) and so we don't want guests revealing to virtual strangers that we are out of town traveling as it is a risk for thievery, etc..
While I did not meet Aaron, I did pick up the keys from a friend who made sure I knew everything needed about the apartment. It's in a great location just steps away from the famed Haight-Ashbury intersection which is still wonderfully chic and diverse. (Friday night someone set up a homemade yet powerful automatic bubble blower which filled the intersection and halfway down a block of Haight with high-flying, remarkably uniform 2" bubbles!) The amenities are basic but the queen bed is very comfortable.
Aaron's place was just what my best friend and I were looking for. It was half a block from the corner of Haight & Ashbury, good walking distance to shops and cafes. There's a great jazz bar right down the road. I loved that we had a nice size kitchen to cook some meals for ourselves. Also was cool that the shower and toilet were separate so that my friend and I could use the bathrooms for different reasons. Everything went smoothly! I definitely recommend to future travelers!
Very nice appartement in this historic district. Aaron answered quick and the communication was very good. The appartement was clean, good kitchen and quiet. We enjoyed our stay!
Central and convenient location, everything as described, easy check in and check out, host was responsive. Bed is rather firm and somewhat uncomfortable, and that was really the only unpleasant part of my stay here.
Aaron and Diana were very welcoming and made the stay very comfortable. Be prepared for 35 steep stairs - not a problem for me but could pose problem to others. Also, you will not be able to control your own temperature, but can request it be set where you need it and it can be changed during the daytime hours upon request.
There is a great market right around the corner that can supply your basic needs or you can bring from home what you may need.
The neighborhood was quiet - and the fellow neighbors were mostly quiet (just a bit of loud music). You can't beat the location! I would recommend this home and would stay there again.
