The Space

We are located way up in the hills of Woodland Hills - south of Ventura Blvd and near Topanga Canyon, a very lovely part of Los Angeles County and we are about 20 minutes down to the beach driving through Topanga, a beautiful historic canyon. The village of Topanga has great shops and restaurants for its community and tourists.

For longer term stays we offer complete independence or community as you choose. We will consider pets.
These details below were written for shorter term tourist guests but hopefully some of you will find some of it helpful.

Once you are at the ocean, to the left, 20 minutes is Santa Monica - a beautiful drive along the Pacific ocean... or to the right, Malibu is about 30 minutes away.

For access to all L. A. areas, it is a 7 min. drive down the hill to the freeway. ( 101) The Metro link Train is up in Chatsworth to go downtown. It can be reached by the metro bus way (Orange Line) near by, north of Victory and Canoga. Also there are city street buses down on Ventura Blvd. It is necessary to have a car to get to these stations and stops .
Woodland Hills has many full beautiful malls and other shopping, restaurants etc .

The studio, in the tree tops overlooking some distant hills,
has some nice peek a boo views of the valley. It's 355 sq ft. with vaulted ceiling and bamboo floor.
Built in 2006 with many windows.... it is peaceful up among the trees and sky - even has some tubular sky-lights.

The photos do not show a newly installed SHOWER in the bathroom and new large hot plate for the kitchenette. ALSO a small TV with cable, including WIFI. Furnishing can be flexible, if you have some of your own.
There is parking on the street or in our driveway.

Our home, the main house below is open for use of the kitchen if you want to use the stove ... AS long as you cook for us !! ( just kidding)

Our neighborhood is hilly and a great area for walking. Charming creative homes, views, etc Because we are almost at the very top, a healthy 3 block walk to the very top takes us to Tremendous views of the whole Valley, mountains and hills. A wonderful way to start or end the day.

For cultural lovers, we have a NEW Valley Performing Arts Center ( V-Pac connected to our local university ( C-Sun, Cal. State Univ. - Northridge) . Of course downtown L. A. is about a 40 - 55 minute drive or there are excellent express bus lines that you can drive and park - to ride from Woodland Hills across the valley to No Ho, Universal City, Balboa Park and even some nice jewels of japanese gardens are within a 30-45 min. drive as well as on the busline..

The Great Getty villa and center, the Skirball Center and the Annenberg Beach House are all wonderful close by vacations favorites. For the nature lovers, Topanga Canyon , Maibu Canyon and others provide it all - from horseback riding to hiking, and WINERIES!
There are fitness centers, swimming pools nearby and of course restaurants all over!

We are a well educated, well traveled couple and have enjoyed entertaining over the past 12 years together in our home and in the patio for all kinds of reasons for all types of people and we welcome you to join us! We enjoy lively conversations too.
Or the separate housing can offer GREAT privacy and solitude if that suits you. We believe in Live and let live.

My husband is a retired aerospace scientist and I have played cello all over the world during the last 35 years. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing a brief special moment of your stay in L. A. over an occasional breakfast, if you like.

See you soon~

  • Whitney and Doug were wonderful hosts. They provided a happy hour on our arrival, which I would say was the best happy hour I have ever been to! My husband and I were very comfortable in the tree house. There was plenty of room to spread out surrounded by a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. I plan to book the tree house in the future for family and friends that come to visit. I would recommend their place with no hesitation. What an amazing couple.

  • Beautiful place hosted by good folks. This was my first AirBnB experience, and it worked out really well - went to a wedding, and Whitney and Doug's place was nicer, closer to the wedding venue and half the price of the Best Western that was our other choice. Would stay there again next time in LA.

  • What a delightful experience. With total confidence I would book Whitney's location then look forward to my relaxing stay at her beautiful oasis. After a long grueling drive of over three thousand miles with a friend to drive a car to my daughter Whitney and Doug graciously greeted us with wine provided us with information about our lodging then bid farewell so we could settle in to our wonderful digs.
The loft style studio apartment was beyond my expectations. It is far better than presented on the website. The treehouse is quiet, very clean,
and private. It is like being in a airy forest retreat.
Upon our arrival there were snacks from yummy ice cream to yogurt provided in our suite. The next morning if we had chosen we could have prepared a nutritious breakfast but accepted an invitation to have breakfast with our hosts. This was the right decision because it was just right served in a homey understated elegence with large doses of fun conversation. Whitney and Doug were also very helpful with information to assist my daughter as a newly transplanted L A girl. Thank-you to them for going that extra mile.
We were most fortunate to start our day with Whitney and Doug. They provided us with practical information such as locating a car wash, dealing with traffic along with offering excellent suggestions on places to go for a various activities. Most importantly our hosts were entertaining and hospitable. Additionally they respected our boundaries for privacy maintaining that delicate balance of knowing when it was time to withdraw and when to offer ideas about our visit.
At this moment I am looking for reasons to once again book accommodations at The Treehouse.

  • Our stay at Whitney and Doug's place was great. The scenery from the treehouse we stayed in was beautiful and completely comfortable. The big bonus was we even had breakfast almost every morning, so we got to chat with our two hosts and get to know each other. Whitney is a very helpful host, perhaps too helpful at times. But she does seek the best interest. This is a great place to stay ESP if you're trying to visit L.A because you're only an hour away. If you do not mind driving that far of course. Staying with her and Doug made our trip that much better. Great place to stay! :)

  • Whitney and Doug are incredibly accommodating and wonderful conversationalists with a vast array of great stories and knowledge to share. The room was very spacious with great light and all the amenities you will need for a cozy stay. Bathroom was clean and worked great, internet is lightening fast, and area is beautiful. Perfect place if you're trying to take a few steps away from city life and enjoy hikes and beaches while still being close enough to malibu and santa monica to head over there easily if you want to. Thanks Whitney and Doug!

  • The Treehouse B+B really did feel like a treehouse: you wake up surrounded by beautiful tree-top and hill views with beautiful light coming in all around. We had a very comfortable stay: the hosts made delicious breakfast and graciously invited us to a few really interesting events. The studio feels very private and was a perfect base for exploring LA and the Coast. I wish we could stay longer.

I am a cellist and my husband is a retired aerospace scientist. We enjoy entertaining and travelling and our community of friends. One trip we took in 2006 was to Italy for a cruise around the western Mediterranean with the line, Costa, on a brand new ship.... La Concordia! Yes, the same ship on its side, JUST uprighted! We met that captain in a reception who seemed fine at that time. What a surprise to see "our boat" in the paper years later! Probably no more cruises for us ~ We have had family members, friends and colleagues from around the world stay in our tree house studio over the years and everyone has always said they are happy up there. Now with a shower installed it is complete ~ In our patio we have hosted chamber music birthday & dinner parties, Shakespeare play readings, and Mid-Summer night Dream parties for 5 years now... We love our outside dining room under the big trees. Every holiday it seems we host events and often for various causes too. If we present something ya'll are certainly invited.
