• Spectacular View Penthouse & Bath

House - Private room · 27th St, San Francisco, CA 94131, United States

Your suite is the top floor penthouse with a private luxury bath and spectacular panoramic downtown and bay views. You have full use of the living room with spectacular views, a cozy gas fireplace for chilly evenings and a baby grand if you play.

The Space

Our 1939 home is a unique, landmark example of late art-deco Streamline Moderne – a last gasp of American modern architecture before WWII. Stretched out on a double size lot we have an award-winning garden which we hope you will also enjoy. The garden has a great downtown & bay view as well.

The guest suite (and most of the house) is furnished with original American mid-century modern furniture and art from the 1940's, 50's and 60's, We have been collecting these pieces for more than 25 years. The guest suite has a Posturpedic queen-sized mattress, down comforter, double dresser for your use, desk, fast Wi-Fi, and large flat screen TV (excellent digital broadcast, CBS, ABC and PBS but not NBC), no cable.

Walk everywhere! We have a 82 WalkScore and excellent transit connectivity. Refer to our Airbnb Guidebook which highlights our favorite walk-to destinations. The Diamond Heights Shopping center (Safeway, Walkgreens and Bank of America) is an easy three blocks away. Six blocks down hill is the much more fun 24th Street "Heart of Noe Valley" with world-class cafes, restaurants, bars, bistros, shopping, Whole Foods, and a Saturday Farmers Market. 24th Street continues into the sunny Mission. The Valencia Corridor offers some of the hippest cycling, foodie and entertainment scenes in the west. Eat, drink, and shop your way to the 24th street BART station and go everywhere the BART system goes. It's a short but hilly 15 - 20 min walk from our home to the Castro, about a mile (1.6k).

WARNING! If you have any mobility issues please consider this location carefully. We are up a steep hill, better than 17% grade on the last half block. That's why the views are spectacular. It's only a half block to the nearest bus stop but it's a steep half block. The 35 Eureka bus stops at the corner and shuttles to and from the Castro MUNI Rail Station. Hop on the Northbound bus to head for the Castro. The J-Church MUNI rail is a short 5 blocks down hill on Church street. San Francisco taxis accept credit cards. Try innovative smartphone car services like Side Car, Uber, and Lyft.

Ask about good bicycle routes – our setup here is very bike friendly. Roll your bikes directly in and out of the secure garage from the driveway side door. We have a convenient bike rack by the front door. MUNI buses allow bikes on their front rack and can be a great way to get your bike most of the way up that last hill home.

Join us for breakfast which includes coffee, tea, oatmeal, nuts, and sometimes more. We both work so breakfast is 7:30 to 8:30 ish weekday mornings, more flexibility on the weekends and we'll show you how to help yourself any time. Don't feel like going out for dinner? Order delivery of a hot gourmet meal from Seamless and enjoy it in the dining or living room overlooking the city with a cozy fire blazing in the fireplace.

We have easy access to Interstate 280, highway 101, and the Bay Bridge. You can take MUNI to BART and airports in San Francisco and Oakland. Parking is plentiful on our street. When parking in the street just remember to curb your wheels and check the street sweeping signs.

  • My first Airbnb experience became an absolute success. As an alternative to frequent hotel stays in San Francisco I wanted to try something new during a 11 nights long business trip to SF. James & Jeff truly gave me new home away. From start I got a warm welcome and the experience staying at their place provided new insights & views of a city I still had visited many times before. The set-up with the penthouse works great, - views, layout and high standard. I felt like home there and also got to use kitchen and living room as I pleased. They gave me lots of tips on how to get around and teached me new things about the city. Things like a joint bike ride around Golden gate park and an unexpected invitation to join them for dinner gave additional memories and gold stars to my hosts. I sincerely recommend staying with James & Jeff if you get the opportunity.

  • If you're reading this you're wondering if staying with James and Jeff will be worth your time and money. It is.

The place is great, the view absolutely fantastic, both hosts are very welcoming and great to talk with. 5/5 stars.

I've spent a very relaxing and enjoyable week in San Francisco. Thank you guys!

  • Jim and Jeff are wonderful, absolutely easy going hosts and I spent gorgeous 2 weeks there. It's great to have your own amazing place on top of the building with that spectacular view and to share the kitchen, where Jim and Jeff are around and you can discuss stuff with "real" Californians! And you can get amazing stories from Jim and Jeff!

  • What an introduction to airbnb. This was our first stint with airbnb, and it definitely won't be our last -with airbnb or with James. We stayed with them for four nights over Thanksgiving. The room is gorgeous, beautifully decorated, and festive. We slept and ate great. We already miss the view and the company, although we have plenty of photos as mementos.

  • Our visit with Jim and Jeff was like a trip to see family - only the family you wish you were born with. The house is as beautiful as the pictures suggest, and the views are majestic. We enjoyed the experience so much that we found ourselves coming home at the end of the day instead of hanging out in the city. We were always met with grace, good company and warmth. I am still dreaming of the delicious French pastry they served us on e morning. It was hard to leave and we can't wait to return.

  • We were greeted at the door of this beautiful house by James, who eagerly showed us our "home" for the next 3 nights/4 days! The million dollar view was breathtaking and we found it hard to leave and begin our sightseeing. Upon returning home we were greeted and offered a cold local beer and/or sparkling water. Breakfast was a wonderful way to start our busy day! Oatmeal - fresh fruit and pastries from the local farmers market and coffee, along with info on the transit system and sites to see. It was a beautiful vacation for my daughter and I and was made memorable by our gracious hosts. Highly recommended! We look forward to returning someday!
Oh - and the heated floors in the (email hidden)iceless!!!

  • This was our first AirB'nB experience and it was wonderful! The place was just as described and Jim and Jeff were the perfect hosts. They are a wealth of knowledge of the entire area and were very helpful in helping us plan our days. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when in the area and my husband and I are hoping to come back again soon. The house is very close to shopping, restaurants, etc. So easy to get to anything the area has to offer. The place is spotless, the oatmeal was great and Jim and Jeff made us feel so comfortable. This comes naturally to them and they are the best!!! And Luke (the dog) is a sweetheart! Oh and the VIEW!! Spectacular!!! So nice to wake up and see the city in all it's glory!

I'm a 58 year old, married (Husband Jeff) web game programmer. We have a 90 pound/41 kilo goofy black german shepherd dog named Luke. I make online jigsaw puzzles for web sites from photos I shoot while camping and hiking in our great national and state parks. Will you be visiting wine country, Point Reyes, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, or Yosemite? We know many nearby places of interest and will be happy to help you plan excursions! I love mid 20th century architecture and design, a passion embodied in our home. When we first moved to San Francisco we lived in a nearby B&B for months. It let us get a feel for authentic San Francisco living. We hope to give our guests a feeling for authentic Noe Valley living. I've lived all over the US and after 26 years here I now am certain that San Francisco is paradise.
