The Best of Austin just steps away!
Clean, basic, and a little funky 450 sqft 1 bedroom house just 6 blocks east of downtown Austin.
Close to Austin's Central Business District, 6th Street Entertainment District, Rainey Street District, the Texas State Capitol Complex, the Austin Convention Center, and the University of Texas at Austin campus. It makes it a great base for exploring all of Austin and Central Texas.
The house is situated on a short, quiet street in a tranquil, safe, and friendly historic residential neighborhood, and is within easy walking distance to several bars, restaurants and food trailers (East Side King, Three Little Pigs, LaV, Qui, Franklin's BBQ, Stubb's, Takoba, Blue Dahlia, Sagra, Vintage Heart Coffee, and the White Horse, to name a few), and convenience stores like Quickie Pickie with great beer selections.
WalkScore rates this address a 94.
Barton Springs pool, Lady Bird Lake, the famous Congress Avenue bridge bat colony, the Texas State Capitol building, Blanton Art Museum, Texas History Museum, Memorial Stadium, ACL Grounds, and supermarkets including Whole Foods flagship store plus almost anything else you'll want to see or do in Austin are within a 5-10 minute drive or short bike ride. The Circuit of the Americas track is about a 20 minute drive east.
If you're afoot there is a Capital Metro bus stop 2 blocks away where you can connect with the rest of the city, and a light rail stop is about 5 blocks. Uber and Lyft services are available, as well as Zipcar and Car2Go. Pedicabs go everywhere in the evening, and we do supply bikes too, see below.
The house is furnished with a new queen size Tempurpedic bed, sofa, flat screen TV with basic cable, Wi-Fi, galley with stove, oven, microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. There's a hairdryer and ironing board with iron in the closet.
Bathroom has shower but no tub.
The place has central heat and air conditioning, and its own driveway for your vehicle.
Naturally all of your towels, linens, soaps, dishes, etc., are furnished, and the galley is stocked with beer, snacks, coffee, bottled water, and other items for your convenience, our treat.
There are also a couple of bicycles with helmets and locks for your use.
We can't allow smoking inside the house, but you're always welcome to puff 'em up on the front porch or on the back patio!
This house is perfect for 1 or 2 people but would consider more as long as everyone knows that somebody has to crash on the sofa or floor (there are sleeping mats and extra bedding should that be the case). Kid friendly.
The place is all yours while you're there, so relax and come and go as you like, whenever you like.
The owners live in a separate home next door but are respectful of your privacy and won't be in your way. But if you need to do laundry, get too tipsy to find your way back to the house, or need anything else while you're having fun in Austin just let them know and they'll be delighted to help!
We usually don't do bookings more than 90 days out, so please check back if you're looking at a date beyond that.
This guesthouse is registered and licensed as a Short Term Rental property with the City of Austin, Texas, and all applicable City and State tax is included in the nightly rental rate.
See you soon!

Not sure how our stay at Mary's and Greg's house could have been better! We were in town for a wedding in East Austin and our proximity to all of the events had all the other guests jealous. We didn't rent a car and it was super easy getting from/to the airport, as well as everywhere else we wanted to get to in town by bus. Great spot, great hosts, great amenities (I now have a new favorite salsa, thanks to the Shattucks). When we come back to Austin, we know where we will be staying.
Really enjoyed my stay! Greg and Mary were excellent communicators before the trip, always responding quickly to questions. Their home is the perfect setup for relaxing and close access to downtown Austin. I didn't have a car and easily walked everywhere. They provided everything you could imagine needing and then some - great bath products, drinks, snacks - to add to the ambiance of the place. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer! I will definitely stay there again when my travels talk me back to Austin.
This was our first AirBnB stay anywhere and we are honestly having a hard time imagining any other place being more perfect than this one. Either that, or this place has COMPLETELY raised our expectations on other AirBnB places. This sweet little cottage is perfectly charming, impeccably clean and situated in a little shaded haven surrounded by a lovely, tranquil patio. The bed was so comfortable that we are seriously looking into replacing our mattress at home with the same mattress here. Our hosts were gracious, respecting our privacy, but also thoughtfully and unobtrusively checking in with us to make sure we were comfortable and our needs were being me. You can BE SURE THIS is where we plan to stay whenever we're in Austin.
Greg and Mary's guest house was the perfect spot for my stay in Austin. Loved being on the Eastside of town and close to downtown. Great restaurants, food carts and coffee within walking distance. The house is thoughtfully put together and very comfortable and clean. They both made themselves available and responded quickly to any question or request both before and during my stay. It is perfect for one person or a couple. Really appreciated the jug of bottled water (and the snacks). Would have loved to spend more time outside and used their bikes as well!
Awesome. Everything you need. Nice character. Beautiful patios and porch. Great area. My new go-to spot.
We felt so welcome! Greg and Mary had the fridg stocked for us...whole milk for my toddler, chocolate for mom, cereal, coffee, beer. So thoughtful! What an awesome location as well. Walking distance to restaurants, and coffee shop. Really comfortable accommodations. Thank you so much!
This was a great cozy place to stay in order to enjoy east 6th. My friend and I are both locals and knew exactly where we wanted to be in order to be able to walk home safely and have a good sleep after celebrating a girls night out. We felt very safe in this area and the house met all of our needs and more. There were tons of drinks and snacks and enough seating so that we both could lounge in our PJ's after getting home. It is definitely an urban area, so you will hear street noise (and possibly church bells!) but it is SO close to where you want to be. We were able to hit east side kings, Rio Rita, LaV, and several bars at night, then have coffee at Vintage Heart in the morning.
We've lived in Austin 36 years and can help point you in whatever direction you might like to go during your visit.
When we aren't traveling ourselves you might find us hanging out at Barton Springs Pool, reading Raymond Carver paperbacks, blasting hard bop on the living room hi-fi, or slurping Pho at one of the local Vietnamese joints.
