Where you’ll be

Fitou, Occitanie, France

Authentic French Wining Village:
The charming village of Fitou is 22km north of Perpignan and 30 mins south of Narbonne. The village itself nestles in a small valley and is world famous for its red wine. There are many wine producing outlets in the village, you can taste and buy as well as a snack bar/tabac, bakery, small grocery store, doctors surgery and choice of fantastic traditional restaurants.

2 min walk from the villa is a Spa supermarket, you can buy all your essentials, milk, french sticks cheese etc but we recommend popping over to Leucate for a larger offering.

There are several great restaurants in Fitou with superb food and offer a unique French atmosphere. Our favourite is “Cave D’Agnes” at the top of the village situated in a converted barn. We have also enjoyed many meals at family run restaurant “Vidals”. In Leucate there is a lovely garden atmosphere at “Jardin des Filoche” or you can enjoy an al fresco meal in the square at “Les 35 bis ”. For high end dining “Le Grand Cap” has fantastic sea views and has gained a Michelin star.

At the top of the village sits a medieval château with stunning views to the coast. Fitou offers a sports centre, hard surface football/basketball court with a small climbing wall, a table tennis table, a children's playground, a bouladrome and a tennis court. The village comes to life in July and August when you can enjoy live music in the evenings; the annual wine fete at the beginning of August and the twice yearly 'sardinade', a traditional festival where hundreds of sardines are cooked over an open fire and served with French bread and wine.

Languedoc-Roussillon is France's southernmost region bordered by Spain, Andorra and the Pyrenees Mountains and boasts one of the best sunshine rates in France. Its beautiful coastline offers miles of white, sandy beaches and picturesque fishing villages and ports to explore. Water sports including wind/kite surfing, sailing, canoeing, diving and water skiing can be found on the coast, whilst activities such as mountain biking, rock climbing, horse riding, white water rafting, hiking and golf are also available nearby.

For history lovers, the region has many abbeys and castles, incl. the medieval walled city at Carcassonne. Perpignan is a bustling city with chic boutiques, busy pavement bars/rests.
