Interaction with Guests
I will be there to give you the keys, the map of Beirut and an agenda with the cultural events happening in the city!
Located 2 min away from Sassine Square and ABC mall. You can find very good restaurants and cafes around the corner. If you would like to reach Gemmayzé, to have a drink, you can walk for 15 minutes or take a 5 minutes ride in a cab.
There is something called "service" which is usually an old model of Mercedes, that picks up whoever is waiting in the streets and it costs 1.5$ per person, for a 10 minutes ride. If not we have many taxis all around.
Other Things to Note
In Beirut, the electricity is cut for 3 hours per day. It is a repeating cycle that goes backwards: from 15h pm to 18h pm, the following day from 12h pm to 15h pm, then from 9h am to 12h and finally from 6h am to 9h am. Nevertheless the apartment will be powered by the generator. The elevator of the building won't. It is a common issue in Beirut.
Corine is a great host and was very helpful and reachable at all times. The house is very clean and in an excellent location. We skipped a lot of holiday traffic just by being there. We had some issues with the house that were very quickly resolved within hours and it didn't disturb our plans. We could always find parking space somehow next to the building.
We needed simple accommodation for 10 days, near to our daughter, who only has a room in Achrafieh, and where we could leave our stuff while exploring the country. Corine's response to our inquiry was prompt and clear. Although we never had cause to meet her, she very kindly communicated with our daughter, so our late arrival and very early departure, in a prolonged thunder storm with no power for 10 hours (all over the city!) was very easy. We found some milk and fresh fruit on the fridge, which was very welcome. We did not need our dish cloths, tea towels or scourers but regretted omitting salt, pepper, a flashlight and emergency candles! The apartment is less than 10 minutes walk from our daughter and so was ideally situated, for us. The apartment exceeded our expectations, as well as being enormous, it was very clean, well appointed and furnished. We prepared several simple meals in the apartment during our stay, but there is all you need for more elaborate cuisine (note, as in many places abroad, no kettle, tea pot or toaster!). The WiFi worked seamlessly and considerably faster than in Somerset! We managed to park our hired car nearby, either on the street or beneath the building, probably a luxury in Beirut! The location 3 minutes walk to Sassine Square, couldn't have been better, with several food outlets, restaurants, ATM's and excellent fruit juice cafe, as well as abundant "service" taxis to take you elsewhere in the city. Although it takes only 20 minutes to walk to the Martyr's Square or the National Museum. We found the traffic and building noise, particularly the car horns, intrusive (the traffic in the city is even worse!) but this would be less of a problem in summer, when the a/c would mean all the windows are shut. However we enjoyed our breakfasts on the generous balcony with interrupted views to the mountains. This was far better than an "aparthotel" and better value, as well as being ideally situated for us.
Our first experience of Airbnb anywhere, but unlikely to be our last! We certainly recommend this apartment and Corrine as an hostess.
The apartment, which is in a great location, was exactly as you see in the pictures - very neat, tidy and clean, a lovely large balcony with views out out to the mountains.
Corine was very easy to deal with - she made sure someone was there to meet us when we arrived and to collect the keys when we left.
Corine has a really nice spacious apartment in an old Beirut building. We really enjoyed our stay, Corine met with us and left us some local wine. She's very reactive in case you need anything. She told us everything we need to know before hand about the electricity and water (something you should really ask about when just arriving in Lebanon in general)
The apartment is very well located, very comfortable and fully equipped. We had a very nice time there, although there was some minor problems since we were the first to stay there this season but Corine was very reactive and problems were solved in no time. Thank you Corine.
For families with small kids and a stroller, the Beirut power cuts are not great in this apartment since there is no electricity for the lift during those cuts and the apartment is on the 8th floor. The cuts are usually 3 hours per day on a rotating basis. This was the only downside of this apartment which I think is important to know for families like us. But definitely not a big deal if you are older and do not need to be carried.
We also very much enjoyed staying on this wide big terrace!
Thank you Helene, it was a pleasure hosting you and your family. I am sure the next guests will benefit from my experience with you! I appreciate your honesty and will really try to convince my neighbors to power on the elevator during the electricity cuts. Until now I didn't succeed. I apologize for this inconvenience.
