The Space

Welcome to my house. There are 1– 3 bedrooms available on the first floor, each with a double bed and close to the bathroom One large bedroom is connected to a smaller bedroom which would be appropriate for a family member.

All rooms are the same price per night (not per person). Two of the three rooms have a large outdoor porch surrounded by a lovely garden and lawn. Breakfast isn't served but the rooms have a coffee pot/tea kettle (coffee and tea provided) and one room has a mini fridge if you would like to bring food with you. Towels are provided.

The modern three story house is located less than 1 mile from the Dartmouth College campus. It is a 1/2 mile from world-famous King Arthur Flour and the Montshire Museum, considered one of the ten best science museums in the country.

WIFI and parking are available.

The Connecticut River is within walking distance for swimming or canoeing/kayaking. We are only a short drive from Woodstock and Quechee, Vermont (home of Simon Pearce restaurant and store with glass-blowing workshop) and other tourist attractions. Cross country skiing is nearby and there is excellent downhill skiing at Killington and Pico Mountains which are a 40 minute drive.

I am a writer who has published books about Guatemala and the Spanish Civil War. I've lived in Vermont for over 25 years and can tell you about the unique and interesting things to do in this beautiful area.

I have a dog and a cat. The animals will be kept out of the rental area, but if you have allergies you should know that they live here.

I have 3 rooms for rent. If the calendar indicates that there are no rooms available, please check with me.

Wifi does not require a password.
No smoking please.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: Rates are higher during Dartmouth graduation, Reunion weekends and Fall foliage. Please inquire.

  • Our time spent with Laurie at her beautiful home was wonderful and very convenient for both Hanover and Norwich where we were visiting. Our room looked out onto a deck and a lovely garden. Laurie is a very interesting host and attended to our every need and her two adorable dogs made us feel very at home. We would definitely be very happy to return to "Country Chic" when in the area. Thanks Laurie.

  • Laurie, the rooms, and the pups were all fantastic! The house was warm and welcoming, and Laurie was very attentive and easy to work with. The location is absolutely perfect, a 5 minute walk to downtown Norwich and a 10 minute walk to the Dartmouth green in Hanover. Can't wait to come back! Thx

  • A lovely stay. Laurie is a welcoming, warm host, the accommodations are clean and comfortable, and the location is very convenient for area activities including outdoor adventures, visiting Dartmouth, and (for me) classes at the King Arthur Baking School. Had a great meal too at the Norwich Inn, a recommendation by Laurie.

  • My husband and I really enjoyed the house when we visited our daughter in Dartmouth. Laurie left a sign outside the house and made us felt comfortable. The backyard is pretty with the grass and flowers. The house is very close to Dartmouth. Will definitely stay there again next time. The dogs are very cute!

    Thanks, Laurie.

  • My daughter Maggie stayed with Laurie while attending a four-day King Arthur bread baking class. She loved her stay there. Laurie was warm and welcoming, the house was great, and everyone helped her eat the breads she brought home from her class. She hopes to return for another stay.

  • Laurie has a wonderful home and was very accomodating. As an example, I wasn't arriving till 2am in the morning and the porch light was on with a nice letter explaining my accommodations. Room and bed were both large and comfy, with a desk and nice couch for reading. Easy to come and go as you please and I'll be staying here again when I return.

  • Laurie was more than helpful and welcoming during my visit. The location was perfect and the view from the room was great! I definitely recommend this room for future visits and look forward to coming back! Sorry we couldn't meet as I was busy with my college visit to Dartmouth. Hope to see you this fall during interviews.- Keith
