The space

An open plan, one-bedroom studio in a traditional Sicilian style home. With two skylights and two balconies, it's a sun-drenched apartment on a quiet street in the historic center of Cianciana, southern Sicily.

I'm an artist who likes to share my small studio while I'm living in Asia. My home is designed explicitly for an artist's and writer's needs: a flexible live-work space with a great view of terracotta tiled rooftops, next to a park that leads to olive groves and lemon trees for long walks to get your ideas flowing.

If you're hungry, there's a great pizzeria and plenty of cafes just around the corner.

For day trips, the striking beach of Eraclea Minoa is a 45-minute drive (recommended to rent a car). Or catch a bus to inspiration at the Greek temples of Agrigento by the sea - just 45 minutes away.

++ If you stay a week or more, we'll waive the cleaning fee. Message us for details.

* Starting 2016, we use only eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaning and household products.

* The studio was featured in the Sunday Times on 21st July, and was filmed for House Hunters International in 2012, just as it was being finished.

** Out of consideration for the cleaner, reservations must be made two days or more in advance. Thanks for your understanding.

You can have an authentic, sicilian stay in Cianciana. The house is clean, and well prepared. I liked the style of furniture, and i had a calm short-trip. I suggest the beach in Sciacca and in San Leone :)

It was a fantastically decorated old house in a little village upon a little hill. It's just as described in the photos. We loved the quietness there and felt it was a privilege to stay in a special house like that. Everything is there except wifi, the bed and sofa are comfortable, the kitchen was not so well equipped but it's as expected. Best water pressure in the shower too!

Our stay was really good and enjoyable, the apartment is small, but really charming. Location within town is excellent, it's really close to the bars and restaurants, but not noisy. Although our overall experience was really amazing and wo would definitely recommend staying here, there were few things we didn't enjoy so much: 1) Cianciana is rather far from the beach, aprox. 40 minutes drive. Absolutely our fault that we didn't check this out before, but the drive from town to seaside is only some 20 km away, but is a small mountain road, so takes a lot of time. So we found the long drive a bit annoying, although the scenery on the way is amazing. 2) The water. Firstly sink faucets are rather had to manage. The small DIY sink with frog faucets is really cute, but impossible to turn off with wet hands. Another thing - shower. Franca told us that the water can be very hot, so we tried to be careful, but there's some problems with water pressure and the way pressure pump works (sometmes it does, others it does not) so we both, me and my wife, got a bit burned it the shower. 3) Bed. It was ok to sleep in it, but as it is actually two small bed put together there's a gap between them. Not comfortable if you want to sleep in an embrace os something :) And also not comfortable to read in the bed, because it's very light and is easily pushed away from the wall if pushing your back against it. Apart from these small matters, everything was really nice and the apartment was beautiful (in fact we decided, that we would like one just like that for ourselves).

I absolutely loved staying at Roy and Elizabeth's beautiful studio in Cianciana. The apartment was clean and exactly as described online with a real charm to it. Franca couldn't have been more welcoming, and she really went out of her way to make my trip as easy and fun as possible. I can't wait to go back soon hopefully! Thanks for a great stay!
