Studio Sicilia after a whitewashing facelift, 2014. Studio door is the second one up, and bedroom is third one up.
An open plan, one-bedroom studio in a traditional Sicilian style home. With two skylights and two balconies, it's a sun-drenched apartment on a quiet street in the historic center of Cianciana, southern Sicily.
I'm an artist and writer who likes to share my small studio with other creatives, when I'm living in Asia. My home is designed explicitly for an artist's and writer's needs: a flexible live-work space with a great view of terracotta tiled rooftops, and next to a park that leads to olive groves and lemon trees for long walks to get your ideas flowing.
If you're hungry, there's a great pizzeria and plenty of cafes just around the corner.
For day trips, the striking beach of Eraclea Minoa is just over a half-hour's drive (recommended to rent a car). Or catch a bus to inspiration at the Greek temples of Agrigento by the sea - just 45 minutes away.
Included to stay connected: a dongle with 5GB for (very basic) internet usage.
The studio was featured in the Sunday Times on 21st July, and was filmed for House Hunters International in 2012, just as it was being finished.
** Out of consideration for the cleaner, reservations must be made two days or more in advance. Thanks for your understanding.
Details on how to use the water and rubbish facilities are at the studio.
Everything went smoothly, and even though our host was in the boondocks of China, contact was very good. We were welcome by her local contact and taken to the house, everything was explained.
We enjoyed Elisabeth's place very much. Utmost zen simplicity and yet great comfort. Good bed and good hot shower, peace and quiet, what more does one need. A blue and white Greek house in Sicily… Highly recommended, and a steal. Thanks.
Elizabeth was very accommodating seeing as though we had bad travel disruptions. The accommodation & area were just what we were looking for, all the amenities were acceptable the bed and duvet being especially comfortable. The surrounding area was peaceful and anything we needed was within walking distance. We are looking forward to staying at her property again on our return.
Our stay in Cianciana was short but sweet. I guess there was some miscommunication between Elizabeth and the agency, because nothing was ready when we arrived and we got the impression that since we were only staying one night, it wasn't worth the bother to properly clean/prep the place. We chose this a apartment based largely on the comments and I am a little surprised that my experience was so different from everyone else's. We are not picky people but the price-quality ratio is perhaps a little off..
Elizabeth's rustic studio apartment is a beautiful, peaceful place amidst the picturesque hills in the enchanting town of Cianciana. The location is central for exploring the many marvellous sights in the area and only a 40 minute drive to the beach if you prefer. The people of Cianciana are very welcoming and friendly and there are several good restaurants a short walk away, as are most of the basic necessities. Don't miss the Tuesday markets where you can have a delicious lunch of Milza and Panelle from Domenico's stall. Highly recommended for a summer sojourn but can get a little cool in winter, but none the less cosy. The apartment came equipped with all the basic necessities, even for our one month stay, and the staff at My House Agency were always happy to help make our stay more comfortable.
We enjoyed the nice view of the mountains and the tile roofs from the balcony. The hot water in the shower was plentiful and the pressure was great. The bed was quite comfortable. The rooms were chilly in January but the agents at My House brought us an extra heavy comforter. They also fixed a broken light and were working to get the hot water faucet in the kitchen sink working. The guys at the My House agency were great. Carmelo immediately started calling people in the next town when my wife told him she was here looking for relatives of her grandmother. Alphonso gave us great restaurant recommendations and made sure we knew all about the lovely village of Cianciana. Joe, who grew up in the UK, helped us with everything else, especially how to get around. They let us use their office wifi (the internet dongle wasn't functioning while we were there). Elisabeth's place is very basic, simple and peaceful. It's on a very quiet street. Most of the time the only noise we heard was the birds in the morning and the bells of the church. We found the people of Cianciana were very welcoming and friendly.
We have stayed at Elizabeth's place a few times now. Was as lovely as ever and Elizabeth was the perfect host from afar, looking after us very well and with generosity.
Would recommend this spot to anyone for a relaxed and rustic break in this beautiful town.
Lovely place to stay. Elizabeth is, as always, a great host from afar. Responding really quickly to any questions that we had by email.
We stayed here in spring time which was beautiful and again now in december, this time a lovely cosy and great place to explore from.
