About this listing
My charming, cosy flat is tucked below the Sacré Coeur basilica, in the heart of the gorgeous Caulaincourt-Custine quartier. The 1-bedroom flat is modern, well-designed and spacious while the building retains the charm of 1900s Paris*
Ideal for couples, the apartment has a double bed, modern bathroom with shower and separate loo, well-equipped kitchen (convection microwave, hob, fridge, dishwasher...) and comfortable lounge.
In addition to wifi and Airplay sound system, perks include a large library of French, English, Spanish literature, a yoga mat and Pezzi ball, and an African art collection. (Also, economists will delight in my array of PhD textbooks).
Rue Caulaincourt is lined with cheese shops, boulangeries, small supermarkets, fruit and veg shops and of course, patisseries. From a hair cut to a shoe repair, you can get pretty much anything done on this street.
The area is well served by public transport: bus no. 80, 95, Montmartrobus, metro lines 12,4,2,13, and 3 Vélib stations. Famous sights such as Notre Dame, Opéra and Eiffel tower are reachable within 20mins. Note: The "Butte Montmartre" is in fact a hill, so the Montmartrobus is designed for those who wish to avoid the stairs.
The Eurostar is 10 minutes away, and CDG airport is 50 minutes by train. Regional train stations (Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est, Gare Montparnasse, Gare de Lyon) are either direct on the métro, or have one connection.
I look forward to giving you a warm welcome ~ A très bientôt à Paris !
*The flat is situated on the 2nd floor and there is no lift, therefore not ideal for the elderly or disabled.
Guests have access to the whole apartment. Access to the communal bike and pram room on the ground floor can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
The guests occupy the whole apartment, so our interaction is typically limited to the check-in and check-out. That said, if I'm town I'm always up for a chat over a glass of wine in the neighbourhood!
Other Things to Note
Hairdryer and dishwasher available.
Strictly no smoking inside the apartment
No loud music after midnight (body corporate rules)
We spent 8 days in Elizabeth's apartment. Before our trip Elizabeth was easily reachable by email, and during our stay she was very prompt in getting back to us about any questions we had about the apartment. She sent simple instructions for us to find her place from the airport and was there to meet us with some food so we could have breakfast. This was very nice of her as we were tired and hungry after our flight. She also had a bottle of champagne for us because we were in Paris on our honeymoon. Needless to say we were very impressed with our welcome.
The apartment itself was great. It was very clean and stocked with everything we could possibly need, such as a hair dryer, towels, and an iron. There is also access to wifi and she let us use her printer.
The location of the apartment was also great. It is very close to a main subway line and in a great neighborhood. You can easily access all that Paris has to offer or go to one of the many restaurants, bars, bakeries, grocery stores, etc., that are right in the neighborhood.
We would highly recommend staying in Elizabeth's apartment for your next trip to Paris!
Elizabeth was very helpful and provided excellent directions including metro instructions from the train station. Check in and out was easy. I didn't meet Elizabeth but her emails were very pleasant and helpful. The apartment is nicely decorated indeed and very charming but my boyfriend and I didn't actually really enjoy our stay here. So far, all of our stays on airbnb have been in apartments that are strictly rental apartments. We didn't realize we would stay in an apartment that is actually someone's home while they are away, and to us, it was just a weird feeling and we couldn't settle in. For a cleanliness rating, if I were to pretend I was staying a friend's place for the weekend, I'd give it a 4 out of 5. It's overall clean and tidy. But for a rental place, I'd give it a 3 for the bag of dirty laundry under the sink, the dirty bath mat, the film and water spots and on the mirror and taps, the overall dust job, and the food in the fridge/personal belongings in the apartment. Perhaps my standards are high but if I'm paying a lot of money to stay in a place, I do expect it to be spotless. I will add however, that our booking was very last minute (the day before) so perhaps that factors in somehow but I'm still not sure that makes it okay. I think also that for the location it is over priced. We would have rather stayed a little more central in Montmartre. The immediate area does have lots of cafes and bakeries but it's along the outskirt and doesn't have the Montmartre feel until you go up the 193 steps to get there. Perhaps the price is based on the size of the place though, because for Paris, I think it's probably pretty big. I feel bad to leave negative comments because like I said the place is charming and Elizabeth seems like such a nice girl, but I feel I should be honest in my reviews so I can help anyone who might be similar in my taste. If you dont think these points will bother you then by all means, do book it. I'm sure you will enjoy it. But if you think you might be like me, then maybe keep looking. Thanks Elizabeth for your kind and helpful emails and for accommodating us so quickly. I do wish you the best of luck.
Thanks Dana for your review. Any remarks, even negative, are welcome and necessary as they allow for better matching of hosts and guests. For guests who share your particular needs, I would suggest a more careful reading of the apartment description, photos and location information to avoid similar misunderstandings. I apologize for the imperfect cleanliness, and will reconsider taking last-minute reservations to avoid this problem in the future. Warm regards. Elizabeth
Elizabeth’s apartment made our visit to Paris perfect. Great location at Montmartre, ideally located between two different metro stations. Although we didn’t get a chance to meet her in person since she was away, Elizabeth answered mails quickly and was very helpful. No problems at all collecting the keys etc.
The flat was very clean and tidy, with fresh blankets and towels.
In short – a highly recommended place to make the most of your holiday in Paris!
This apartment is in a perfect location for exploring Paris on both foot and by the metro. It was spotless, had everything I needed for a comfortable stay and the check-in process was easy. I would certainly stay here again if I visit at another time.
We stayed in this beautiful apartment for three nights and we absolutely loved it! Having been to Paris several times before, this was by far the most relaxing holiday here - it felt like being at home in the heart of Montmartre. The area is full of little street cafes, restaurants and bars - we didn't even need the metro. Elizabeth is a great host, everything was perfectly organized and we would definitely stay here again. Five stars.
The apartment was very nice. The location in Monmartre is very good, walking distance from the Sacre Coeur and many restaurants and bars. With the metro you are in 15 minutes at the Eifeltower and other tourist hotspots.
Elizabeth is a great host, very flexible with checkin and check out times and you can always ask questions about the apartment of Paris.
After all, we had a great stay!
About the Host, Elizabeth
A long-time francophile of South African origin, I've been living in Paris since 2005.
I love hosting international guests in my Paris apartment as much as discovering people's homes around the world. I am a big believer in community-based services such as Airbnb, and love the diversity of experiences it brings. Looking forward to meeting you!
