The name of our home in Italy is Calboccia, an old farm we acquired and restored more than 25 years ago. It is located near the top of Monte Calboccia, offering stunning views over Niccone Valley and three of its seven castles.
Calboccia is unique in its rustic elegance and peacefulness.
Calboccia is located on the border of Umbria and Tuscany. The small valley below us is in Tuscany, while our home, on one side of the valley, as well as the hills on the other side of the valley, are in Umbria. This makes our location uniquely convenient for visiting the hill-towns of both Umbria and Tuscany. Of historical interest is that we have found evidence on the property that the site was occupied by Romans in early A.D. times.
Interaction with Guests
When I am in Umbria, which is half of the time, I serve as hiking guide, resource person, and pizza maker using the outside pizza oven that our children built. When I am working in Berkeley, my friend and manager Stefania is a wonderful resource person and caterer of authentic Italian food.
Calboccia exudes peace and tranquility. It is surrounded by many acres of nature and teems with wild life and flowers.
Having a car to get to the markets and tourist sites is a must.
Other Things to Note
The two floors of Calboccia are like two independent apartments that can be combined or rented separately. Each floor has a completely equipped kitchen and living room aside from the bedroom(s) and the bath. The downstairs unit also has a large dining room opening to the large, west-facing terrace.
There are no neighbors, so house rules are rather loose. Just enjoy yourselves, and don't forget to watch the stars at night! - If you are a smoker, please smoke outside and carefully extinguish your cigarette.
Stay here and you could give this host their first review!
I am a Community College instructor in Oakland, California and very fortunate to have discovered the Niccone Valley twenty-five years ago. Our home called Calboccia is the place where we hike, cook, eat, read and talk with friends and family, and when we do not, it's all yours!
