Torre Alta Lodge are cabins located atop a mountain surrounded by jungles. We offer magnificent, unparalleled views of the Turrialba a volcano, which is located directly across the valley from the cabins. We are focused on nature and sustainability.
Our cabins were created to offer our guests the ability to disconnect and completely relax. However, we completely understand that in our digital era it is sometimes necessary to stay in touch with the rest of the world and we therefore offer free high speed wifi in all of our cabins.
We have built the cabins with our harvested lumber and are keeping our impact on our environment to a minimum. We recycle, compost and use rain water for all our needs.
Each cabin comes equipped with bottled drinking water, a small fridge and coffee maker.
Each cabin also has a front porch with breathtaking views of the Turrialba valley and the majestic Turrialba and Irazu volcanos. As the volcano is currently active, you can witness smoke plumes floating from the top of the volcano.
We offer horseback rides with our guide. He has developed various routes in the area, all levels of experience. Our most popular ride is the one that takes you into birdwatching areas, sitting on the horse and not having to worry about walking gives you a great opportunity to see so much more.
Drink from our natural spring and see how we are a major part of the water shed that supplies the town below us. We offer meals made mostly with organic vegetables and fruits from a local small farmers coop.
We can help schedule white water rafting on the pristine Pacuare River.
We encourage you to come with enough time to enjoy all we offer.
We look forward to having you as a guest.
Our guests have access to the dining room and the farm on which the cabins are located. We also have a variety of roads and trails that our guests are welcome to explore. Since the farm is focused on sustainability and in promoting the natural ecosystem, you will be able to fully appreciate the variety of flora and fauna found on the premises.
We recommend bringing good shoes for hiking and river rafting.
Interaction with Guests
We understand that you are visiting us to relax and enjoy the environment. Thus, we will try to keep out of your way as much as possible. However, we are available at any time our guests might have a question, need something, or simply want to learn more about Costa Rica and the local culture.
Your hosts are very knowledgable in any aspect of Costa Rica and gladly share with our guests as much as they need and want to know.
We are quite isolated and adequate planning regarding transportation is required. Our guests can choose to rent a car, but a 4x4 is very necessary as the roads are quite rough. In fact, for those guests that are planning on making it up to the cabins in their rented vehicle, we strongly suggest that only drivers experienced in rough terrain attempt this. We also will gladly pick you up from the local town, San Rafael, and shuttle you up and down the mountain whenever needed.
We also offer our guests the possibility of being picked up from the airport at an additional cost. We highly recommend a GPS which can be rented at the car rental office.
Getting around Costa Rica by bus is safe and stress free. Let us know if you plan do take this option and we can make some suggestions.
Other Things to Note
Since we are rather remote, we offer breakfast included and the options for lunch and dinner at an additional cost. We also offer smaller meals of sandwich or salad, chips or fruit, and a beverage.
We had a wonderful time, thanks to the fabulous location, the strikingly designed cabin, and most of all, the warm, relaxed, and attentive hosting of Annette and Harry. We didn't mind a couple of days of uncharacteristic rain, and the view of the rumored volcano the first clear night was magical. This is a great place to spend a few days, whatever your schedule.
We had a lovely time at Annette and Harry's place. We felt very welcome, the cabins are great, with awesome views of the volcano (managed to get a glimpse on the last day). Our hosts were very generous of their time, we loved going to the market with Annette, dinners were very tasty, especially the local flavors. We did some walks around the property and we'd love to come back and explore more (maybe with less rain!) :) both Annette and Harry are very knowledgable and helpful about the area.
This was by far the best AirBnB we have ever stayed at. The whole experience from arriving and driving up the rocky road to staying on top of a mountain within the clouds. Dinner and breakfast were both prepared for us and it was top notch. In the morning Annette took us on a hike around their land and it was really a sight to see. The cabin was very comfortable and the bed was very easy to sleep on. I highly recommend staying here and would love to go back one day.
Our hosts were very welcoming and warm. The posts about the cabins were very accurate. The property is very tranquil, beautiful, and remote. We loved how in tuned with nature the our hosts were, down to every detail. Words of advice: don't follow (website hidden) maps to get to the property. Review the route with Annette. Both her and Harry are very helpful, and make great suggestions to places to check out on the way to the property. If you enjoy wine and a picnic, there's a great spot near a lake (just ask Harry!).
Absolutely loved staying here. This is definitely off the beaten path and the journey up and down mountain is an adventure in itself. The views are spectacular and the cabins are incredibly clean and comfortable. From the porch you can see the town of Turriabla below and the volcano across the valley, and on a clear day the Caribbean can be seen. The night sky was also beautiful. Annette was extremely helpful though email and phone. Her and Harry are welcoming, down to earth and put on a great meal. We got some amazing directions and local tips from them to help guide our adventures. Their prices are more than fair and we felt like we really hit the jackpot staying here. I would return in a heartbeat and recommend this place to anyone who wants some peace and quite.
Absolutely fantastic spot! Although the way there is quite adventurous (up on the mountain!) - it worth it 100%! Breathtaking view, cozy and quite cabins and beautiful nature around!
Annette, her husband and there dogs are great hosts!
Annette made us a nice home-made dinner and simple but delicious breakfast. I and my family feel very welcome and comfortable.
The only thing we regret is that we stayed only 1 night...
Annette & Harry were great. Views are incredible, when clouds permitted. Very isolated and you MUST have a 4x4 to get there, otherwise you have to leave your car in town and they have to come get you (the town is several kilometers away at the bottom of the hill). Also, bring some food & snacks so you can just relax while you stay there and not have to try to drive in and out of the property. Cabins were nice and internet worked well. Didn't get a chance to raft the river, weather at the time was very stormy, but probably would have been a fun time. All in all a relaxing and unique experience.
