The space

Completely private, quiet, pretty, nonsmoker room with a private entrance, in central Jerusalem in the green neighborhood of Old Katamon. No steps. Access to relaxing garden. The room includes a private bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Exceptionally clean. Double bed, oak cupboards, hair dryer, refrigerator, electric kettle, and, of course, clean sheets and high-quality towels. We provide coffee (regular and decaf), tea, herbal tea, sugar, and milk, as well as corn flakes, bread, butter, jam, and cheese. Access to garden. Air conditioning (also used for heating), free wireless Internet (bring your own laptop), and satellite TV. Iron and ironing board available; just ask. Guidebooks and maps for your use. Free parking on the street. Gracious, English-speaking hosts always available to answer questions and provide directions or other information.
One block to ATM, Yakar Synagogue and to bus lines 13 and 14 (to city center, Old City, and to major tourist attractions). The room is in a great location, within 5 minutes' walk of a laundromat, convenience store, bakeries, deli, cafes, restaurants, post office, bank, pharmacy, and pizzeria, as well as the Jerusalem Theater, where you have a choice of plays, concerts, dance performances, and films. Twelve minutes' walk will bring you to trendy Emek Refaim Street, which has a choice of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, an ATM and two money changers.

Guest access

Guests have access to the garden surrounding our building. At the rear of the building there is a beautiful large olive tree that provides shade and a pleasant place to sit and relax.

Interaction with guests

We live in the building where the B&B is located and are usually home. If we know we will not be home when you arrive, we will leave a key for you. We are always happy to answer questions and offer suggestions for touring and dining options. In addition to providing regular maps, we will gladly provide hand-drawn maps explaining how to get to various places. Of course, if you prefer to do everything on your own, you are welcome to do so and we will not disturb you.

Other things to note

If any of the days of your stay coincides with the Jewish Sabbath (Friday sundown until Saturday night) or a Jewish festival (from sundown until the following night), please note that there is no public transportation (although taxis and the Arab bus to Bethlehem do operate). Major museums are open. Although in the Old City everything will be open as usual, in the rest of the city most shops, cafes, and restaurants will be closed. Please see the guidebook section of our listing for some suggestions of restaurants outside the Old City (and within walking distance of our B&B) that are open on the Sabbath and on most Jewish festivals).
Jewish festivals and holy days when you can expect most restaurants to be closed are: Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year); Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement; everything outside the Old City is closed); Succot (the Feast of Tabernacles; the first and last day of the week-long festival); Passover (the first and last day of the week-long festival); Shavuot (Pentecost). Most restaurants are closed also on Tisha be'Av (a day of mourning), the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day and Memorial Day for Israel's Fallen.

Wonderful place to stay for a couple or single person. Room is full of interesting books and maps and we were delighted to find fresh bread from the local bakery along with jam and cheese. The host met us at the spot our shuttle dropped us which we very much appreciated as it was dark and we were concerned about finding the place. Great local store and cafe a few minute walk up the road. Also the bus stop was very close and easy to take to old city and open market. Felt comfortable the whole time and wish we could stay longer.

My husband and I stayed at Shragas place for our recent trip to Israel. His place always seemed easy enough to navigate to for our shuttle or taxi drivers. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. Walking to public transportation isnt far at all. At night we even walked from the old city back to his Airbnb - it was a nice ~20-30 min walk. No matter what time of the day we always felt safe in his neighborhood. Shraga is great with communication - always clear and timely. He provides simple things that anyone would want for their travels - maps, information books, and breakfast. If you're looking for something simple - stay here.

This was a quaint spot in a great neighborhood. Quiet, residential, and walkable. I mostly used the room for resting and sleeping at night, and it worked great. I slept comfortably each night, walked to nearest coffee shop and fruit shop, jogged to the park, and it was helpful to have the numerous guide books available in the room for reference. The space would be a bit tight for more than 1 person, but doable for a couple who is close and is mostly getting out and about the city. Thank you for a nice stay and delicious bread and cheese!

Lovely neighborhood, comfortable bed and very accommodating hosts. Our delayed flights led to us arriving at 4 am. Shraga arranged for us to get in and get to bed, which after 25 hours of travel was so appreciated.

A cozy, warm and welcoming place in a quiet residential neighborhood; well-appointed with all you need to support you while you explore in and around Jerusalem. Small, private room, cleverly designed to include storage space and a very usable bathroom area. Our hosts provided fresh bread, cheese, jam, cereal and dairy products, and that all-essential breakfast item: good coffee; certainly had enough to get us through our three nights' stay. Very clean; good towels and extra pillows. Great help with directions and maps; wonderful books to read should you need a little down time. Highly recommend staying in Old Katamon!!!

I am a native of Jerusalem and I love my city.
Each guest from Airbnb opens a new window on the world for me. I enjoy welcoming them and hearing about their travels and plans. My wife, Esther, also enjoys meeting our guests and helping them.
I love helping my guests get the most out of the city. I supply them with good maps that show how to walk or take public transportation to the city's major sites and also where to find food of all kinds.
I also love books, and our guests will find a large selection to choose from, both guidebooks and novels.
Travelers have many questions about places they would like to visit. If I don't know the answer to your question, I will ask someone who does know.
Please feel free to contact me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
