The apartment is located in a building on the front line of Copacabana beach - on Avenida Atlantica between Francisco Sá & Souza Lima.

The apartment has been newly-refurbished by an interior designer in a modern, contemporary style. It's on the top floor (12th) of the building which has 3 elevators.

The apartment has a high speed wi-fi internet connection and cable TV channels. Living room and bedroom have newly installed air-conditioners which can also be used as heaters in the winter.

The bedroom has a full-size bed with lots of wardrobe space. The living room has a sofa bed, a 32-inch LCD TV with cable channels and there is a CD/DVD player. The kitchen is modern with a granite worktop, microwave, fridge with freezer section, stove and a washing machine and eating utensils are provided.

The apartment is in a secure building with 24 hour porter and security cameras (which you can watch on the tv!) located opposite the police station and it is situated just in front of the world-famous Copacabana beach in posto 6, which is a safe area and considered the most prestigious part of Copacabana, next to Arpoador and just a 5-10 minute walk to Ipanema. Everything you need is on the doorstep: the beach, shops, bars, restaurants, banks, gyms, etc. The metro is just 5 mins walk. The building in located between streets Francisco Sá and Souza Lima.

Bed-linen and bath towels are provided.

Please note that despite the building being right opposite the beach, the apartment does not have a sea view.

Minimum stay of 3 nights. We will accept 2 night stays if the stay falls between two bookings (please write to us to request a 2 night stay).

Rates and minimum stay vary during special occasions such as New Year, Carnaval and the Olympics. Please ask for details.

The Neighborhood

There are several supermarkets, restaurants and banks nearby. I usually use the Zona Sul supermarket on rua Francisco Sá: to the left as you exit the building on N.S.de Copacabana, and right at the traffic lights. There is a nice place for breakfast on rua Souza Lima (next to the Wizard language school): turn right as you exit onto Nossa Senhora and right at the traffic lights.

Across the street from the exit on Nossa Senhora (next to the Copacabana Rio hotel) is a 'kilo' restaurant called Temperate. You help yourself to the food in the buffet and then they weigh it and charge you according to the weight. Restaurant Eclipse on Julio de Castilhos is quite good but the portions are very, very big and I would recommend ordering 1 plate and sharing it (you can always order more if you are still hungry and you can take food away if you have some left over - though they charge a small amount for the box to carry it in).

One of my favourite restaurants, more for the atmosphere than the food, is Bar Astor (on the corner of Vieira Souto and Rainha Elizabeth da Belgica) in Ipanema, about 10 mins walk. (By the way, Vieira Souto is the most expensive street for property in all of South America). A famous restaurant in Rio is La Garota de Ipanema on the corner of Prudente de Morais and Farme de Amoedo. It attracts a lot of tourists because this is where the famous song of the same name was written but the food is very good and again 1 plate is easily enough for 2 people. I always order the picanha steak which comes in lots of slices on a hot plate and you cook it yourself on the table in the hot plate - delicious! There are lots of restaurants and some bars on Farme de Amoedo. It's a lively area to eat or drink in the evenings. There are also some nice restaurants towards the lake side of Ipanema. Just walk around and explore and choose one you like the look of.

The place for nightlife (particularly at weekends) is Lapa, next to Centro. It will be full of people out partying (though do not venture into Centro which is not very safe at night).
Santa Teresa is worth a visit for an afternoon. It is a neighbourhood up on a hill overlooking Lapa. It has a different feel and the architecture is interesting. There is a good bar there that gets busy and everyone stands out on the pavement. I don't remember wht it's called but you can't really miss it.

When it rains I usually head off to Barra Shopping (they pronounce barra as baha, the r sounds like a h). It is a huge shopping mall and a good place to escape the rain. It is in Barra de Tijuca where they are going to hold the Olympics and where they are currently held Rock In Rio but it is a good 30-45 mins by taxi depending on the traffic.

I haven't mentioned the obvious tourist things to do in Rio like the Sugar Loaf mountain (Páo de Azuca) or Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado) and of course the beach (I prefer the beaches in Ipanema to the ones in Copacabana).
I hope I have given you a few options that will be of interest to you.

Getting Around

There are numerous buses right outside the apartment building that will whisk you anywhere in the city.

There is an entrance to the metro station General Osario at the end of Sa Ferreira just 5 minutes walk away. For some reason they seem to have forgotten to add this entrance to the maps, but it is there, believe me! Actually it is shown on the metro rio website if you click on stations, line 1 and then General Osario.

Other Things to Note

There is a minimum stay of 3 nights. Stays of 2 nights will be accepted if there is a two night gap between bookings.
