Interaction with Guests
There is an attached, but separate, apartment downstairs, which is where I live. If I am around when you arrive, I would like to greet you. If not, I would hope to meet you at some point during your visit. If you have questions about my home or the area, please feel free to text, email or phone me.
Stroll on down the county roads, take a dip in Queechy Lake, hang at the beach or cool off in the kayak, hike to the fire tower and catch a view, or lounge on the very private deck and listen to not much more than the birds as you sip that iced tea with your summer reading. Tennis and hoop courts are within walking distance. A beautiful twelve miles to Lenox/Tanglewood/ Kirpalu; a few more to Stockbridge/Great Barrington. Eight miles in the opposite direction, Chatham is an oasis and a short hop to antiquing in Hudson. For day tripping, MASS MoCA, Williamstown, the Catskills, Woodstock, Saratoga and Bennington, Vt. are all about an hour away.
Canaan is about two and a half hours from JFK and LaGuardia International Airports; two and a quarter hours from Logan International Airport; one and a quarter hours from Bradley International Airport; and forty five minutes Albany International Airport.
Canaan is very rural and, as such, there is no public transportation. However, there are several local taxi/transportation service providers. [I cannot endorse the quality of these providers, since I have not used their services.]

My home stays very comfortable in the summer months. Open widows on cool evenings. Close windows in the morning and lower the shades on the east facing windows (towards the back yard and woods). On the west facing windows (front of the house) lower the shades in the afternoon, when the sun shines in. On humid days, the dehumidifier will assist in keeping the house comfortable. On particularly warm days, the air conditioner in the west facing bedroom will keep the mail living area cool.
There is no cable television. Local stations from Albany broadcast major networks as well as PBS. Additional programing, movies, games, etc. can be viewed the ROKU streaming player.
There are stringed instruments in my home which I prefer not be used. If you have small children, arrangements can be made to have the instruments relocated during your visit.
Please acknowledge the important role railroads have played in the local and national heritage, as trains still pass this way.
No pets inside my home. However, if he/she is a well behaved guest, the enclosed porch adjacent to the main living area will accommodate your pet nicely. An additional security deposit will be required for accommodating your pet.
No smoking in my home, on the decks or porches. Please leave no trace.
Ken was a great host and made sure we were well situated in his house, as well as providing lots of great suggestions for things to do in the area. The house was super comfortable and perfect for our family - lots of room to relax and a great patio to enjoy breakfast. We watched tons of birds from the birdfeeder too.
The real gem is nearby Queechy Lake, just a short drive to a private beach that his guests can enjoy. Really can't ask for better!
Ken was a very gracious host, easy to communicate with online and a gentleman upon meeting in person. The housing was lovely and no more than 30 minutes from all the dance, theater, and music venues we love so much in the Berkshires. When we arrived there was fresh fruit and eggs, milk and granola for breakfast. Thank you Ken for a wonderful stay. No doubt we will be in touch with you again.
Lovely house, as described. Very generous living area perfect for my husband and I, my parents, and our preschooler. The pantry was stocked, and though we had brought with us lots of food, we were grateful to have olive oil, dried herbs, even miso paste!
Light filled bedrooms and cool open ground floor. Very convenient geographically to Tanglewood...
Ken was a wonderful host: gracious, available without ever seeming intrusive, great communicator! He made us feel truly at home.
Lovely place, exactly as advertised. Very friendly and accommodating host. Totally worth it!
Ken was very accommodating and helpful. His place is very well-kept, clean and orderly, with a warm and classic sense of design. The setting is beautiful and nests above the very green vista. All sorts of birds visit the bird feeder including large woodpeckers, blue jays, cardinals, gold and house finches, it's all very serene. Ken also left us a lovely breakfast for each day we were there - fresh eggs, homemade bread and granola. It really made us feel special. Ken made check-in and check-out easy and seamless.
Ken was a great host! We arrived late at night and Ken kept the house warm for us also left us some fresh breakfast ingredients that were a very nice surprise. The house is very spacious but still feel very cozy and have a lot of natural light. Communication with Ken was super easy and we had a great time! highly recommended!
Spacious, very clean house and great natural light. Ken left bread, granola, milk, eggs, etc for our breakfast!. We will definitely book Ken's house again when we come back to the area!
About the Host, Ken
I am pretty much a native of this part of the planet and have spent most of my time here as a Special Education Teacher and growing my family.
What I love about living here: sweet air, hikes, the lake, cows, biking on country roads, snow sports, diverse music, bookstores, art, lots of very delicious food and extremely wonderful people.
