Bed&Bath Near Dwntwn & Zilker Park

House - Private room · Collier Street, Austin, TX 78704, United States

The Space

Private bedroom with your own private full bath on tree lined street in the heart of 78704. [We have our own bumper sticker, “Not just a zip code, but a way of life”].

An easy ½ mile walk from downtown in the Zilker Neighborhood, near to multiple restaurants, bars, shops, Lady Bird Lake with its hike and bike trail, and the famous Zilker Park (Barton Springs Pool and Botanical Gardens!). CapMetro north and south bus stops are a short walk down the street on S. Lamar. Auto and bicycle rentals are within easy walking distance. Zilker Neighborhood is a very safe, cool, and historical Austin local - and is located right by downtown.

PLEASE check out the Map Tab above for all the good stuff within easy walking distance! A convenience store is right around the corner, CVS and Walgreens, Office Depot, bunch of coffee shops, local pizzerias and ice cream shops, really good restaurants, stores, bars, top music venues, etc., etc. And zoom out to see how close you are to downtown.

Once a reservation is confirmed I email my Guests an info PDF on how to get about town and learn the latest on upcoming music, theater, arts, events, etc. in Austin.

Mi casa es su casa. That means the whole house amenities are there for you to use and your room is your space. I will not intrude even when you are out of the house.

The hardwood floor bedroom is light and breezy with double windows on two adjoining walls. Full sized bed, a second set of pillows matching the comforter, a swing arm floor lamp by the bed, and two luggage stands at the end of the bed to set your suitcases on. Teak desk with energy efficient desk lamp and ergonomic office chair provides a street view; accompanied by a file cabinet, and bookshelves. High speed (and I mean HIGH SPEED) wireless internet is provided. You have your own walk-in closet with lots of hanging space, shelves, and a hanging shelf unit. The central overhead light fixture has a three speed ceiling fan and central heat and air assure comfort against Austin’s temperatures.

Your bathroom has a floor of Mexican terra cotta tile, wood wainscoting, powered ceiling vent, safety electrical outlet next to the mirrored medicine cabinet over a pedestal sink, toilet, and full bathtub with water saving showerhead. Two sets of towels and sundry toiletries are provided.

You have full use of the kitchen with plenty of room in the frig and a full sized washer and dryer; including detergent. And many guests use the back deck to lounge around on.

I should mention you will also meet the neighborhood cat whom I call Orange Boy, aka "the Mayor of Collier" as he's running an ongoing con on about half the houses on the street.

Don't hesitate to contact with me with any questions about the accommodations or Austin in general.

Thanks for the opportunity to be your Host.

Interaction with Guests

I want my Guests to know that they can call or text me 24/7 if they need assistance with anything.
Once a reservation is confirmed I email my Guests an info PDF on getting about Austin. This includes instructions on how to use the $1 Airport Flyer from Austin-Bergstrom Int'l airport to downtown. It connects with the #3 bus which brings you near the house. However, if my schedule permits I'll be able to pick you up downtown and bring you to the house. Much less hassle. We can confirm this pickup through texting as your arrival date draws near.
And thanks for the opportunity to be your host.

  • Charles oriented me very well to the city and the neighborhood and the stay was a pleasure. He has lots of maps and guidebooks on hand. The house is easily and quickly accessible to downtown by using the #3 bus. Charles insured that the visit was comfortable and a pleasure. The neighbors and the neighborhood are quite welcoming. Excellent stay. I will happily seek out Collier Street on my next visit to Austin.

  • I stayed 2 days at Charles' and I am satisfied in every respect. The area is safe, pretty and close to downtown. Zilker park, a major recreational green area is just around the corner. You can walk home alone even at night, or use the public transportation (Austin Metro, which is a bus system BTW) The house had everything I needed. The landlord is very kind, communicative and ready to solve problems. The house has an excellent wifi connection.

  • Charles was a very friendly and helpful host, going far above and beyond in giving me rides to the stores and bike shop, and even returning my rented bike when I'd double-booked my appointments on my last day in town. The PDF guide to Austin he sent was excellent for planning my trip before I arrived.

The room was comfortable, sunny, and quiet, with great lighting and a desk, chair, file cabinet, and bookcase -- perfect for the work I had to do before a business meeting at the university. Barton Hills is a convenient location, only a couple of blocks from a major street with many food options and plenty of stores, and not far from several supermarkets (email hidden)-op. Overall, a really peaceful household -- even the cat is really friendly!

  • Charles was a fantastic host. He gave excellent tips for exploring the city and was very accommodating and helpful. The bedroom and bathroom are very clean. Additionally, the location is in a cute neighborhood of Austin that is changing and growing at a rapid pace. Overall, I felt very welcome! Thanks again.

  • Charles was a very accommodating host. He even got up early so we could enjoy a cup of coffee before I had to leave for my flight! The room was exactly as depicted in the photographs, and Charles really makes you feel at home. Would definitely stay at his place again if I visit Austin again.

  • Charles is an extremely nice guy and was super helpful answering any questions we had during our stay. He also gave some great recommendations that we really enjoyed. This was our first time using Airbnb and he definitely helped make it a pleasant one. He even had some extra toiletry items available for us to use in the bathroom. This was awesome since we didn't check a bag so did not have space for sunscreen and it was there when we needed it! Thanks Charles!

  • Charles is a kind and thoughtful host. He sent me a list of "hot spots" in the neighborhood, explained how to get from the airport to Austin with only $1.50 and offered to pick me up from the bus stop! The room is clean and he has a stack of books and local newspapers to help guests plan for their stay. Location is incredible! Right in the middle of the Zilker neighborhood: walking distance from Barton Springs, South Congress, the Botanical Gardens and more! His orange tabby cat, The Mayor, is SO SWEET and very friendly. If you don't like cats or have an allergy, this is not a good fit for you. I will definitely be staying with Charles and The Mayor the next time I'm in the city!

About
I bought this house so that I could walk to Barton Springs pool. If you're not familiar with this famous pool, check it out on Wikipedia. I highly recommend you put a swim on your Austin experience list. My hosting style is "mi casa es su casa". Presently my work is an erratic consulting practice that revolves around the roles of change agent and boundary spanner. And I've recently gotten into providing process/project management and facilitation services to virtual teams. High speed internet access is now a life necessity along with good coffee. You should also know that there's a orange male tabby that is running a con on three or four houses on the street and I think I'm his main mark.
