Interaction with Guests
I live just above the studio and am readily available to help guests settle in and find their way around. If available I am happy to transport guests to and from Ciampino airport (8km) for €20, or the train station at Castel Gandolfo (1.5km) for €5.
Our condominium is a haven of peace and quiet with an absolutely beautiful view. Castel Gandolfo (1.5km) where the Pope normally spends his summer holidays, is an attractive little town in the Alban hills just outside Rome, with a lovely piazza where many happy hours can be spent over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine watching the world go by, or shopping in some of the local shops.
Rome is very easily accessible and many people commute to Rome for work from here. There are regular trains leaving from Castel Gandolfo station (1.5km) to Rome Termini, approximately every hour, or two hours on Sundays.
A bus just round the corner goes to the end of the Rome metro line from where it is only 20 minutes to central Rome. Buses also go to Frascati and other towns in the area. Having a car makes things easier locally but many of our guests come without a car and enjoy the train or bus ride into Rome.
No pets please. Guests are expected to "fit in" with the environment ie. no naked sunbathing or loud music! This is a peaceful residential place and we want to keep it so.
The studio flat was exactly as described and and if anything better. The wonderful view of Lake Albano was breathtaking. Everything needed for our week's stay was provided. We managed to cook evening meals too which we hadn't expected. Enjoying breakfast and suppers on the small terrace overlooking the lake was just perfect. We were not disturbed at all. Parking outside was convenient. Our hostess Jill was magnificent. So helpful with tips and directions for all our excursions and happy to help in any way she could. A thoughtful touch was the welcome pack of prosseco, fresh milk, tea, coffee sugar, biscuits.
We flew to Leonardo da Vinci airport but it would have been helpful if we'd known Ciampino airport was so close to Castel Gandolfo.
We hired a car from the airport so we did not use the railway into Rome. This was a perfect escape to explore Rome and at leisure. We discovered Frascati and Tivoli as well as local towns. The lake was also good for a dip followed by delicious ice cream recommended by Jill. Also market days were an alternative. Try Porchettas too.
Would love to return.
