Nikiti is located at the entrance of Sithonia peninsula and is one of the major tourist destinations in the area. The place has a history of continuous inhabitation for more than three thousand years. (URL HIDDEN) mentions the city of Galepsus in between Torone and Sermyle. Modern archaeological evidence suggests that Galepsus was probably located in between Castri cape and Agios Ioannis (Ai-Yiannis) beach, about 2.5 km from Nikiti. Later, during the Roman and early Byzantine periods, there was a lively settlement in Agios Georgios area on Nikiti beach. an early christian basilica, one of the oldest and most important found in Northern Greece, is what is left from this settlement.
The first written evidence about the name “Nikiti" is found in the archives of Xenophon monastery in Mt. Athos, early 14th century AD. The archives mention the land of “Neakitou" from which “Nikiti" is believed to have derived. After the fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1453, the area was conquered by the Ottomans until 1912 when Halkidiki joined the Greek state after a successful war against the Turks.
Today, Nikiti is a thriving town and local economy is mainly based on tourism and beekeeping, a traditional activity that dates back to the Byzantine times. The main attractions are the traditional village, the ancient Basilica of Sofronios, the church of Agios Nikitas and of course the beautiful beaches around Nikiti.
The town of Nikiti offers a variety of restaurants, tavernas, gyros places, large supermarkets (Masoutis & Lidl) or local grocery and butcher stores, banks, ATMs, pharmacies-drug stores, and numerous other shops for beach apparel and accessories, souvenirs, bicycle rental etc. The main health centre of this peninsula is in Agios Nikolaos, only 11km away.
Enjoy your stay at our house and in Halkidiki in general.

Welcome to our summer house in Nikiti, Sithonia.
These are some common sense rules and in general please make sure you leave the place as you found it.
I will kindly ask you to:
- take out your rubbish (there is a rubbish bin further down on the main street),
- wash your dishes, glasses, cutlery etc.
- leave all used towels and linens on the floor by your check-out
- there is broom, brush, hoover and a bucket available for you to clean up (this is the reason we do not charge cleaning fees yet)
- refrain from smoking indoors, particularly in bedrooms. As smokers cannot always respect this, at least make sure you air very well the room after smoking. Following guests will appreciate this too!
- respect my neighbours and not make a party after midnight.
That's it more or less. Enjoy your stay in Halkidiki and you may contact us logical hours for tips! Feel free for inquiries regarding your travel arrangements.
